You can’t forget the reason old muscle cars are ‘slow’ is because tyre technology in the 1960s-70s was still in the stone ages. Rarely were they more than 7 inches wide, and still used fibreglass bias-ply construction. 300-400 horsepower in 1971 is the same 300-400 horsepower today. Look at what cars with that kind of power are capable of doing today. And mind you, modern cars are a good deal heavier than most classics because of all the additional safety and comfort features. An XY Falcon Phase 3 weighs in at as near as makes no difference 1 and a quarter tons. Slightly LIGHTER than a modern Golf R. And the Falky has some 330bhp on tap. In old money, that’s 8.6 horsepower per pound. That’s right on with the current Mustang GT. There’s a reason 400 horsepower cars generally run about 10 seconds in the quarter mile on drag slicks, and have been for 30 years.

Well, they had horrible tire speed rating and had awful aerodynamics. Also, muscle cars were mainly 4 speeds.

I mean, sure he can outrun the normal patrol cars. But the average helicopter can click along at 100+ knots/130mph and doesn’t have to turn. Higher end ones can tickle 200. And you sure as sh*t can’t outrun radio. If you really want to outrun the coppers, you get at max about 5 minutes at the start of a chase. You have to break line of sight and disappear before they can call for backup. Otherwise your goose is cooked. And you have to pray to whatever gods there be that they didn’t catch your reg plate number.

Also. Don’t most US police agencies have high performance pursuit cars to keep up with runners exactly like this? I’ve seen Cadillac CTS-Vs, Corvettes, Mustangs, and sometimes they use seized drug dealer cars too. Sort of like how Lamborghini tends to give out Gallardos and now Huracans to a few major police units in Italy every few years.

Some do but it’s not up to the officer to continue a pursuit,  if their command says to stop that’s it pursuit over.  The chopper have kind of the same rules depending on area “proximity to airports”, we do have small airports that have no towers to communicate w/pilots, on the ground it’s mostly a traffic/safety call

I see. Still, don’t they have number plate loggers and things like that? Wouldn’t they have logged it, so even if he gets away they can just track him down at his house?

Most do have something like those. Doesn’t help if the cars stolen but here in the us if something were to happen “major accident” the police/highway patrol dept are the first ones sued. So that’s why it becomes a safety issue.

FYI, it would probably look terrible anyway since the pearlescent will bleed onto the stripes, and Ultra Blue is a pearlescent color that bleeds very badly.

Clearly, superchargers must be banned. They are weapons of mass acceleration. Just imagine if someone brought a supercharger to a school and used it on one of the busses, it’d be total anarchy!

I’ve gotten tickets in both my 392 and current Cat, just pull over ASAP and be courteous, it’s just easier.

In my 392, it was a bogus ticket imo, 10 over the speed limit. I was annoyed.

In the Cat, yeah I was def caught red handed, 30 over the posted speed lol.

I just got my citation and went about my day. The trooper knew the car so it’s no secret I was enjoying it 🤣🤣🤣

Even most average cop cars like the Ford Explorer that's currently very popular could keep up with a Hellcat in traffic. One thing police are great at is using taxpayer dollars to buy every available performance upgrade available for even basic patrol cars. It depends city to city obviously, but I'd say it's true for most moderately sized cities.

You overestimate those bloated Ford's.

They weigh more than Challengers but only have a silly little 4-banger.

I got pulled over in my 392 by one of them and the officer thanked me for not booking it across the nearby county line.

I think it really depends on the police dept. My friend works for a small dpt and they ordered non hybrid Explorers. There are some that are the twin turbo ecoboosts, but Im not sure most departments are willing to shell out that much cash for that many cars.

Maybe it’s the extremely high crime rate and all of the constant car chases here in the Detroit area lol.

I work on Police cars often irl and I can tell you this is definitely not the case at all in most areas in the south lol.

Stock as a rock usually. Same drivetrains as the standard cars. At least for the GM and Dodge police cars around here.

Caprice ppvs could have a 5.7, I'm not sure if they ever put 6.0s or 6.2s. And from what I hear, they were the more expensive cars for sale and were quickly phased out.
