Would the in game gambling be with the gta dollars or a completely different currency if its gta dollars then the shark card sales would rise but if it's a different currency they could make it you have to pay for it at the doors of the casino

Buy chips with gta dollars, gamble chips to win more chips, no option to cash out chips for gta dollars. Instead spend chips on exclusive items in the casino store. Clothes, accessories, artwork and sculptures for your penthouse, exclusive liveries, weapon skins maybe. Cars too if you're feeling optimistic.... which I'm not. If they frequently add new items to the casino store then maybe I'll play for more than a few days, but i doubt it. 

 

If this is how it's going to work then it's a real shame. I just wanted to be able gamble and win or lose my money. Not gamble to win chips to win a t-shirt or a painting. I really hope I'm wrong or the casino ends up being a glorified seaside town arcade where morons mindlessly pump machines full of coins to win tickets to exchange for cheap tat. 

 

To sum up, I can see people spending insane amounts of gta dollars to try and win enough chips to buy a pair of sunglasses or a pair of shoes.

It says you can call the casino contact on your phone for missions that pay gta cash and casino chips.

1] The whole game is about grinding?
2] They have to abide by gambling laws, thats why it will have the new 'chips' currency, just accept it.
3] R* isnt stupid either, things like cars will be purchasable outside the casino with regular game money

That would negate the point of the different currency, my guess is you can buy a 'starter pack' of chips for ingame money, but ONLY when you have none

well in all fairness they did apply gambling laws and restrictions, hence why i cant play poker in rdo and thats why in scrambling to set up a vpn at home to be able to fully enjoy the casino.

Gambling laws for virtual games have always been a thing and while they've waxed and waned very little,R*, even in the days of San Andreas have had to up hold current (contemporary) virtual gambling laws. As is the bought in cash being used to gamble doesn't contravene current UK/US gambling laws (zynga use the exact same model).

 

On another point what a lot here seem to miss is that the casino in gtao is a take on modern casinos hence the chip shop (let the memes commence) in the casino and the tradition of chips as an exchange currency. Chips are a nominal marker used to control and set ante in a game and to moderate the exchange of winnings so that hideous amounts of cash aren't literally changing hands in a game. Also the chips make the exchange of money quicker as the are a set amount so fractions are taken out of the equation. It makes games more mannerly as a chip has no worth outside the casino and less likely to be corrupted and stolen. Also the cash can be kept safe away from punters so crime in general is reduced. To suggest that there cannot be a reverse exchange without contravening a law is frankly naive as stated in the first point R* haves always worked with in the law and backing chips to virtual currency breaks NO law.

The whole debate makes little sense.

 

How are we supposed to pay for the casino in the first place? With GTA$ that can be bought with real life cash through the purchase of shark cards! So, by purchasing the casino with real money (which enables us to gamble), the concept of not being able to gamble with real cash has been turned on its head. Of course you can gamble with real cash, just not directly.

 

My guess (pure guess) is that we will (should) be able to purchase chips with in-game cash, but we won't be able to withdraw those chips back into cash, just like we can't withdraw in-game cash back into real life money. This is how you get around such problems. If in-game cash is not a real cryptocurrency and only exists within GTA online, and chips only exist within the casino, then I don't think there is any problem.

 

Hopefully the casino won't exist in its own little universe like the arena and Arena Points (AP), but we will be able to play the current version of GTA online to earn cash to go play/buy in the casino. That makes sense to me.

What if there's no Chips. Only scoring system gained by playing in the casino and the score is the currency to purchase exclusive casino things.

Another point is that when I saw the title I thought of a cheap excuse to check some gaming tips.

 

To counter the whole one way deal I would ask what such an exchange actually prevents... ? If it's going ape sh*t with shark cards it won't. A second exchange is just a minor hurdle at best and those commited to blowing money hand over fist for a virtual equivelant will still have no restriction. A reverse exchange would be academic. If the exchange is a simulation then not allowing a reclaim is missing a key part of the simulation, not to mention a complete dead end for the DLC (AW still pays cash after all AP gear is bought). Finally if the exchange is to stay with in a law, again it's academic as the bought cash is it's own exchange outside of the casino and finalised with the caveat of no return. To replicate that in microcosm is just the same exchange ultimely repeating itself.

Fundamentally that's what chips are in a more tangable medium (read stocks and shares).

I think what we can possibly agree on is that we definitely should be able to purchase chips with in-game cash. Not being able to do so would be silly and might spoil the experience. Let's see on Tuesday!
