RDO gambling restrictions may apply to GTAO?

Recommended Posts

Smufo

I was sure it was coming. I live in Poland and my friend asked Rockstar Support, if casino games would be available in our country. Sadly, they responded that none of the games, even the lucky wheel, would be accessible. This really surprises me, because we got the wheel from Arena War and it works fine.
Can I work around it with a VPN? I know gambling is not banned in Germany. Does tunneling there make any sense?

Here I include a screenshot from the support (in Polish).

sh*t, turns out to be fake 😂

There was a member here from Czech Republic who couldn't play poker in RDO due to it being unavailable for the same reason, but it apparently worked for them after using a VPN. So, I'd say it's definitely worth a shot. You should be able to get a free trial for one to at least try it out first. Good luck!

I wouldn't risk a VPN from day one, since you can be banned in GTAO, and I'm sure R* will "monitor the Casino closely" the first weeks of play...

Well at least that means that nothing too important is locked behind the wheel I mean r* wouldn't want to exclude a part of their playerbase like that?

I don't get the gambling laws though. You use chips at the casino that can be only earned through gameplay, can't be purchased with real money at least from what I've understood. So there's no real money involved at all. Why ban people from gambling with a 100% virtual video game currency?

The culprit is called "compulsive gambling".
Sweden has as an example, a law (Gambling Act) against "aggresive advertising of online casinos",
Only licensed online casinos are allowed to advertise in a "moderate" manner...

I've yet to hear of anyone ever being banned for using a VPN. It wouldn't really be any different than living on the border of two countries and it recognizing your ISP as being located in the other country where it just so happens to be legal or say visiting a friend just across the border and playing the game while you're there.

Well, there was a ban raid among a lot of Asian users with VPN who was banned in GTAO (and sadly seeked advice on the GTA V Steam forums) awhile...

So personally I wouldn't risk it...

That's interesting. I guess you've got to be extra careful on PC; sadly it seems like you can get banned for just about anything. Did R* say that it was specifically because of VPN? I'm not doubting you, by the way; I've just never heard of it ever happening at all to console players, but the PC world is indeed a different world.

R* never gets the banned player the "reason why...", but a lot of Asian PC players are using VPN, since GTAV is banned in some parts of Asia.

Now we a slight offtopic, but my intention was to say to the OP, that i would wait a while with using a VPN, since I assume that R* are monitoring GTAO for glitches the following weeks after July 23...

Why get the risk to get banned and ruin a online game, and use VPN for some casino table games, due to the stupid local laws in Poland?

No. He could gamble with ingame earned money and get the lost gta$ back with Shark cards.

And in some areas gambeling in games is forbidden, even if you cant buy ingame money.

VPN works in Red Dead Online. Just buy a VPN, something like NordVPN is really popular. Or you can keep using trials for various VPNs.

What a terrible thread. People arguing over VPN'S, bans, a clickbait title - and it's not even in the right section

Rockstar can't ban people for use of VPN's, it's not illegal plus it can be hard to trace as well depending on the VPN - please let's not make this topic about VPN's and bans and whather you can use them or not. Also, it's weird what they do with RDO (and likely will with GTAO), because for example Portugal allows online gambling but there is no gambling in RDO. I have a feeling this follows their sweepstakes rules, because Portugal is a country that is excluded from their sweepstakes contests. Maybe Poland is too, not sure.

There isn't a work around if game licences are region specific.

Actually the culprit here is civil law.

I started to write a legal lecture here but then got distracted by #life. 99% of you would probably have found it boring anyway.

For those interested in doing their own research, look up what countries Rockstar have 'blocked' RDRO 'gambling' in and correlate that with counties with legal systems based on civil law; Read up on the differences between common law and civil law, and the realities of legislative change, to understand why some poor unfortunate souls won't be spending up large on casino games next week.

Wait... they said that arcade machines will be blocked as well? That can't be right... those are just retro beat em ups after all, no gambling.

I'm sure the dude from support was wrong about that part. Lucky wheel and arcade machines should be available everywhere.

The number of the ticket is #13372137

1337 - you know this number

2137 - the hour when Pope John Paul II died

Here is a legit response:

20190719_234945.jpg

Roughly it says, that they don't have any info yet and advice to follow the Newswire.

Not nesesery fake, just wrong.

Just as I said before people from support knows nothing about this game. 9/10 times their reposes make no sense at all and they usually contradict each other. I remember that people used to scam them for money by selecting unreleased dripfeed vehicles and saying that they disappeared from their game so yeah...

Every time I have a problem with this game I have to make at least 10 support tickets cause every time I get a different response from them. Nothing new.

You just have to wait and see but IMO arcade games won't be blocked since that ain't gambling.

Wow not sure why someone would go to something so obscure to fake something. Also 1337 is a legitimate number before everything so uh, not to mention this was predicted to happen after RDO's gambling restrictions.
