This takes into account the initial impression they made on me, my emotions from playing them the first time, how well they aged, and how I would rate them now.

IV- 9.99/10 (hard to mod, modding is just 0.01% of the game anyways)

In my subjective opinion ( I especially have nostalgia goggles on for VC I guess, to me it slaps though)

[I haven't played GTA London, GTA 1, GTA 2, GTA V & GTA O.]

 

GTA III: 5/15

Really undetailed story. Repetetive missions, not too many memorable characters. Worst GTA map. I only gave it 5 because of its antagonist, Catalina.

 

GTA Vice City: 10/15

The best GTA ending ever. Great twists. 2nd best protagonist, Cool characters. My first ever GTA.

 

GTA San Andreas: 15/15

Badass story, Great variety of characters, a long story, a lot of new game play features. Best GTA of all time no doubt.

 

GTA Advance:0/15

Not a good story, not a good theme, not a good protagonist, not a good ending, not good game-play.

 

GTA Liberty City Stories: 5/15

This is a really lame story. It gets 5 because of its theme music only. God knows why Rockstar made this game. Waste of good music.

 

GTA Vice City Stories: 8/15

Nice theme, nice story, nice features. But not that good after SA.

 

GTA IV: 14.5/15

BEST STORY EVER (Or so far). The story is really well written. The best GTA protagonist. The ragdoll physics are my favourite. Some features were cut off from SA thats why it gets .5 less than 15.

 

GTA The Lost & Damned: 10/15

The story was awesome but too short. It felt like they couldn't come up with a mid-story & put the beginning & ending together.

 

GTA The Ballad of Gay Tony: 12/15

Again the story was way too short but this one was better written than TLAD. And it felt great to play it after GTA IV's dark story. Really cool protagonist.

 

GTA Chinatown Wars: 14/15

Though the game didn't introduce better graphics it introduced better gameplay stuff. It was a Dramatic story but Dark at the same time. It captured the exact dark theme of Liberty City but with added spices. Then theres the theme song.

I simply don't understand the GTA IV fans that bash on TBoGT, I mean, after all it's just GTA IV with even more tools to f*ck around with its awesome core gameplay, shouldn't it make it better than most other entries in the franchise?

For real! Why would a person even want a third gritty game anyways? That's what the other two is for! And TBOGT had easily the best free roam all them all anyways for the reasons you said and was bringing back GTA's legendary cheats as well. Also imo TBOGT is the best story to continue off of if GTA VI was continuing off a past GTA since it's the only one that didn't truly feel finish, Luis still had more to grow, Tony was trying to escape and saw he had more places to start something anew than he thought, and his friends/family was hitting him up like a new chapter was in their life. For TBOGT, it wasn't the closing a book but rather the closing of a chapter for a new one to begin.

Well, personally I'm more fond of free roaming in Vanilla pretty much for Niko and some options I don't have in TBoGT like Multiple Safehouses, Clothing Options, Vigilante and Import/Export that give a lot of room for roleplaying, but yeah, for causing chaos, TBoGT is certainly the best of the three.

GTA IV: 8.5-8.75/10 (really it's the lack of stuff to jump right in bringing it this much down)

GTA TLAD: 8.25/10 

GTA TBOGT: 9/10

GTA CTW: 6.75/10 (I'm not against the concept of top down, I just think R* has yet to perfect it)

GTA V: 9.25/10 (people WAYYY overlook the unique QoL things this game brings like animals, underwater sights, First Person, Interaction Menu, Customization, Directior Mode, Rockstar Editor, Cheats, weapon and vehicle diversity and attachments, the best store robbery system, 2nd best strangers/freaks/random events, fluidity and modern, etc.)

GTA O: WAYYYYY too hard to rate, sometimes it's a 4, other times its a 9

 

Modern open world crime games I rank pretty high:

True Crime SoLA: 8.25/10

True Crime NYC: 9/10

Sleeping Dogs: 9.25/10

Gangster New Orleans: 7.5/10

Block City Wars: 8.25/10 (I know I'm wrong for this, but the MP really was that fun for me LMAO)

I know we all got our own opinions, but I REALLY REALLY can't fathom how you feel SA is the worse out of all these games. I'm VERY curious to know what an average playstyle of GTA 1/III is like for you in comparison to SA and what all do you do/sink time in. Like GTA 1 is a genuine more fun/replayable experience to you? I get it if you are into those arcade open world top down type of games and don't see the appeal in the 3D universe formula, but I'm almost sure you are not, right?

TBOGT mostly gets flack for the story and characters which are nowhere near on the level as GTA IV or TLAD.

I don’t know many GTA IV fans who dislike TBOGT for its core gameplay as yeah it’s pretty much GTA IV with a different skin and its new additions like caged fighting, club management etc are welcomed.

 

Most of us (not all) are just not fond of how it fits in with the other two tonally. Gameplay isn’t the problem with TBOGT.

I hadn’t played San Andreas (atleast to any significant extent) for like 5 years so when I did it wasn’t as bad as my mind was leading me to believe so what’s wrong with revising my score based on that? Adding more to context I adjusted my rating after making this thread..

 

 

You don’t have to take anything I say seriously (I’m not going to lose sleep over it), but I’ll put that out there before anyone else decides  to jump to conclusions.

my apologies if my post seemed like it came at you hard, that was not in any way what I meant it to be, I was just blown away is all. Anyhow in regards to cherry picking, I only chose the ones I felt were almost universally agreed to be worse than GTA SA (hence why i didn't put VC/IV/V on it, also i can almost completely see why a person would like those games more or less than GTA SA). I didn't put GTA O as that's just a weird comparison for me personally. The reason I didn't reply to the folks who dislike GTA IV is because even though it's like my 3rd/4th favorite GTA and was for THE LONGEST my far and away favorite GTA (excluding EFLC/GTA O, I'm perfectly fine with living with just GTA SA/VCS/GTA IV/V, and wouldn't have much issue loosing the other ones), I do very much understand why these folks don't like it much and outside some SA fanboyism on some of them (like pink afro/jetpack/emergency mission complaints) I think most of them are valid. As to reply to the old comment, I knew you were on here for a long time and figured your opinions hardly change. I do remember however seeing around here you saying it was actually LCS/VCS that reduced your interest in GTA and NOT SA correct? Lastly I actually take your opinions pretty serious since your usually very articulate and descriptive to how you feel about stuff so my original reply was a genuine question that I was curious was all. Hope that cleared everything up!

It’s just a little jarring when I see an old post of mine from a couple of years ago being quoted like it was something I just recently made. Even though I’ve been here along time I’m still susceptible to changing my opinions/views if I feel like it.

 

The one constant that will never change though is Vice City and GTA IV being my top two.

If someone else reasoned that they held a negative opinion on GTA IV just because they hadn't played it "for like 5 years" and because GTAO is worse piece of trash anyway, would you find that a reasonable position to hold? I am terribly sorry, I'm not convinced.
