Worst part of gta 5 by far! the fact that you have to complete them for 100% is ridiculous tbh I wonder who’s bright idea it was to make a tow truck mission in an open world crime game and add the most insufferable side character ever to make wisecracks while you tow cars.

Tonya's an insufferable character, but the missions themselves aren't that bad IMO and try to explore Franklin's admittedly paper thin background. At this stage of the game I can understand why Franklin albeit reluctantly would do it as he's trying to branch himself out similarly to how Niko can drive taxis for Roman in the beginning. To me they're one of the more sensible side activities that fit in contextually.

In saying that I just don't like how you have to do the first one to advance the story because the other Strangers & Freaks missions are entirely optional so I'm not sure what the deal was there.

How could you? Tonya is equivalent to a childhood friend of your opposite sex. I didn't mind her and it was sad she got into crack but life happens.

The missions are eh, but it's useful if you're trying to get the hang of the game's feel.

Such unnecessary filler, it tried to give Franklin more lore but not enough to justify the borefest.

Boring and repetitive missions that have nothing to do with crime, done for characters you don't give a f*ck about and who are completely irrelevant to the rest of the game (one hateable, one who you never even meet), for no money or reward, foisted on you right at the beginning of the game right when you're playing as the gang member character in south LS hoping for some cool gang/criminal related content. Absolutely terrible.

Only slightly entertaining thing is if you ignore her when she's standing across the street from Franklin's aunt's house until you've unlocked Michael and Trevor you can go and pay her a visit as either of them and have a conversation with her and/or knock her out.

Difference being Niko is working for a family business and being paid rather than filling in for a lazy drug addict who can't be bothered to show up for work and not receiving a dime for it. I don't know who the hell would do someone's job for them for free unless it was perhaps for their best closest friend as a one off, even then it would be pushing it, it doesn't seem at all realistic to me.

Yeah, but Franklin assumed it was going to be a one off though. This is why I said he does it reluctantly, but despite he doesn't get paid for doing someone's job he's still given the opportunity to purchase to towing compound so it's not entirely done in vain atleast unlike some of the other "all that work, but no pay" sh*t in the game like the failed Merryweather heist or stealing all those cars for Weston and getting jack.

Maybe for the first one. Just shows Franklin's weak personality that he did it a further four times though, holy sh*t. It's not like he wasn't employed at the time and it's hardly the most lucrative business.

The more I think of it maybe this is why only one of them is required to advance the story. It gives players the chance to weigh up the pros and cons. I have to admit when I first played GTA V I kept doing those missions hoping it would lead somewhere, but aleast getting to the end I was given the chance to buy the towing compound.

Had these missions occurred much later in the game they wouldn't had made any sense, but it's right around when he gets fired by Simeon so he kinda has a legitimate reason to be trying to look for something else to do in the meantime before his relationship with Michael takes off as other money making opportunities are scarce.

No. It shows that despite all the whining about the hood, deep down Franklin still would help his old friends if they are desperate. Franklin is the most caring guy in the trio as well. Whenever Trevor and Michael had problems he always volunteered to help.

I just think it's a ridiculous choice of how to show him helping an old friend. He literally just can't be bothered to show up for his job...anyone would at least expect to be paid something for filling in multiple times even if it is a friend. I don't know anyone who would just go and do their friend's job for them for free while they sit at home lol, it's not a normal way to help someone. To make it worse it's a character that they don't even bother to introduce us to and an absolutely hateable girlfriend so there's no motivation to want to help them on the player's part, and since you never see Franklin interact with or even talk about him you don't get a believable sense that he's doing something for a friend either. He's just doing repetitive and unexciting tasks for nothing.

Many ways they could've shown that he's still willing to help his friends from the hood¬†other than this dumb¬†way ūüėõ. These missions an inexcusably boring start to the strangers and freaks missions and section of the game that's supposed to be about hood/gang life and deserve to be hated.

GTA V is full of chaos. Having a bunch of slow paced side missions is good. A lot of the side missions in IV are the same drive from A to B style as well. And as for Tonya, She's meant to be annoying. Just like characters like Mori. If you hate her that means R* have done a good job of how Franklin's hood friends are annoying/stupid and why he wants to leave.

I don't know about your morality but I know that sometimes friends do each other some favors for free. Because they are "friends". Not business partners.

Crime based side missions or at least side missions that are fun or pay you are good. A dull and repetitive non crime based side mission that you gain nothing from to kick the game off? Not good. Hey look you're a criminal gang member living in the hood....enjoy legally towing some cars and zero gang or crime based side missions in the entire game. It's down to personal opinion whether Tonya is a good character or not, but just because an annoying character can be a good character (like Mori) that doesn't mean all annoying characters are good. I agree she does have some value in showing how his hood friends can be annoying etc, but the missions she and her unseen boyfriend give Franklin add nothing to the game.

Of course friends do each other favours. But your friend sitting on his arse at home while you go to his place of employment and do his job for him and then he collects the pay cheque and pays you nothing multiple times just isn't a realistic example of one. And that it's a "friend" who Franklin never sees or mentions during the game just makes is even less believable. It's a weak storyline, much like the rest of the few half hearted attempts at including some storyline for Franklin in the game.

JB has a Lifeinvader account and you can see some posts regarding him in that website. So no. He isn't just a character thrown in out of nowhere.

We can all agree that GTA V lacks criminal based Side missions. But that doesn't mean non criminal activities aren't welcomed in the series. Especially when it involves a specific vehicle like the Tow Truck. This series is a lot about vehiclee as well. As noticed in the 2D/3D era.

It's a pretty poor attempt at a character though. On the list with Tanisha and Stretch, poorly developed and rarely seen characters and severely lacking backstory for Franklin.

I don't mind a tow truck mission being included. But when there's such a lack of criminal side missions (how about vigilante for a vehicle one? or stealing vehicles? burglary van?) and criminal/gang content in general for Franklin it's simply a boring one to begin the game with. Before Franklin left the hood should've been the time for some gang or small time criminal stuff. It's just the worst example of how poor/lacking Franklin's game content is to me.

Tonya, i won't lie can be very annoying at times, that is why i never really liked doing the missions, though i do understand the whole process of drug addiction and sorts and trying to get someone to help.

What i don't like about Tonya is just the backstory, her drug addiction problems, and the fact she is one of those people who think they're proper edgy using the N word. The tow missions are just downright annoying with her constant blabbering during conversations, and her whining complaints when you make a mistake like accidentally unhooking the vehicle.

The only positive note i do say is that she is not with you for all the missions, after the final mission you do for her she does call and say she is still losing the towing business, and soon after that your nightmares if you had to put up with her are gone.

Plus, i would not recommend buying the business too, the only profitable income you make per week is $500 for every car you are able to store in the impound lot, i'd rather give the business to someone more deserving, not Franklin. For me i just care about bigger stacks of cash than little change that could just go in your wallet.
