Posse elimination or player assassination - do you run or fight?

I used to fight it out because it make the whole thing more fun but now I'm probably just going to run. I've noticed that after you have been eliminated the posse will almost never just ride away. It's almost like they have ridden themselves into a frenzy. Last night I was in a posse of 2 and a posse of 5 came to eliminate us. The other posse member (leader) was a low level so didn't stand much chance but I managed to take out 3 of them before getting killed. Not satisfied with that they continued to try to kill me but the leader parlayed so they couldn't. So they pulled out dynamite and just send me flying around and killed by horse. So I did the right thing and tried to make a game of it but end up getting griefed. So now I'm going to be a running. It will end up giving me more satisfaction.

I find an open area that they must ride through to get me and has cover. Then I switch to explosive ammo and repel them till I win.

The payout is trash regardless if you pull off a win by defending yourself. Personally, I like to stand my ground. I did one awhile ago where I got about 10 kills on the assassin and then he killed me once but it somehow didn't count. I won by outlasting the timer but didn't received any gold. The payout was like $12.00 or so and a bit of xp. So lame :(

Had a fun moment with one of these omw to mexico. I think they eventually gave up once they figured they couldn't reach me.

IIRC they only need to kill you once to win, so I don't see much point in staying and fighting them with these odds.

This doesn't come up as an option for me very often; I spend the vast majority of my time in defensive mode unless I'm forced out by a mission or in a posse when it's not enabled, but it depends on what I'm doing and whether I'm alone or not.

If I'm running solo, I'll just take off running as fast as I can and try to at least make an effort to get away. If I'm in a posse, it depends on what the others want to do; however, the last time it happened, we all held up inside of a building together and tried to fight them off when they arrived. If I recall, once we took off in different directions, but I don't remember if we survived or not.

Unfortunately there's not enough time given to make these things worthwhile. I don't mind when it happens, but if I'm alone and once you've got your kill or time has expired, please be on your way; don't expect me to engage with you in some non-stop PvP battle after the event has concluded.

I always run, but I've been cornered a few times and fought.

When I'm the hunter I always just leave after I kill them.

I haven't really been targeted outside of a Posse (maybe once, but likely a looong time ago) but in those, we normally stick it out though ran once or twice. Though a few people are right, I've had a few that don't stop once they win/lose which adds the extra layer of annoying.

I like the concept of the missions, but they need a different way of doing these IMO. I skip them anymore as a mission cause the other side isn't much better. Had a player elimination and got the guy with a rifle. Then they proceeded to try any kill me over and over for killing their friend as I was trying to ride away saying the most common phrase I hear anymore.

"Show this guy this isn't a game."

Yeah, I'll do them if my Posse or I get targeted mostly and hope they stop once the mission is over.

Only been a target twice. First time I ran, second time I stood my ground. With defensive mode now, it'll probably never happen again. If by chance I'm not in defensive and it happens again, I'm going to let them kill me. Even though it's sanctioned griefing, it's not like the person intentionally decided to be a chooch and screw with me for no reason.

Here's the way I look at it. If I'm in a certain area of the map, I'm there for a reason. If I run away, I now have to go through the hassle of returning. If I choose to fight, then it'll be with explosive ammo, I'd rather hold onto that for more important things. So they kill me, big deal. I respawn and continue about my business.

I accept the mission (to get rid of it) and message the target not to worry, enjoy the xp.”

The cash & xp are not worth the effort for either side.

If I’m targeted I just wait around until they get there then put up the best fight I can, they usually kill me then leave job done.

Depends on what I'm doing, if my horse is full of pelts, I'm afraid I'ma gonna have to fight it out. If not I'll just hop servers to avoid being backed into unwilling PvP.

If I can make a stand, I do. If I can’t, I’ll run.

I hate it when people run though, pisses me off lol

I think these things would work so much better if the target (or targets) were completely unaware they're being hunted. Once they're killed by the hunter(s) or manage to survive before time runs out, enable a parlay or ghosting option for the target if desired. More time definitely needs to be given when the mission starts.

I'm not exactly into PvP in this game, but these are elements that I don't mind so much; I just wish they were constructed a little better.

I was marked for assassination. I had the Nacogdoches saddle equipped, doped my horse. An entire posse chased me up and down the whole map. The payout was $7,25 and some small gold.

After that I just bail out the session. It is a total waste of time.

My favourite time with this was when me and two friends were targeted by a bigger posse.

The two friends holed up in a house to make a stand and I took my fast horse and legged it.

No win for those guys 😁

There is an award and occasionally daily challenge to interupt a players free roam mission, so its best to run if you want the award...although, I normally check the players level and switch to explosives if I want to stay where I am at.  Low levels normally parley.

So, if they kill me.  I will normally kill them until they leave or parley.  If they run when I start it and I can find them, I will keep on killing them for running.  I do not accept them any longer and only have done maybe 3 of them total. If they do not run, I will normally leave after the kill, but they usually want revenge.  And that leads to a who will give in situation.

Depends on my mood mostly. If I'm up for a scrap, either as the target or the assassin, then I'll stand and fight or chase, knowing that there's a 99% chance the fight is gonna continue after the mission is settled one way or the other.

If I'm not in a fighting mood as the target, I'll run with a general heading toward somewhere with a fast travel post so I can quickly switch to a new location once the timer is up. Failed hunters have a tendency to get a bit butthurt and keep coming for you anyway. Often I just won't accept an assassination mission if I don't feel like it but if I do accept and the target is clearly fleeing with a big head start, I'll probably just go hunt or fish while the timer ticks until I can start another mission.

I've done both in the past, but the last couple times I've been targeted I couldn't be bothered to run or fight. The payout is not worth wasting ammo or running my horse halfway across the map.

The Dedito Gae

Im never in the mood to do those sh*t missions so i just call my horse off, do a prospector jig and allow myself to be killed.

Past experiences in the beta taught me that they never have enough after killing me so they keep pestering me to no end. God bless defensive mode, now i dont have to put up with that disruptive element in the game.

Only had it put on me once back before offensive/defensive and I just quit out the game when it popped up. It's not why I'm here, but do accept it's a poor way to bail. Just don't want to waste my time or have any follow on crap after they kill me. (Was already having a bit of a bad spell at the time, no excuse though).

Since offensive/defensive, nothing. And I hope that remains. :)

I used to always run. Once I got the sploders, lol no more. If a low level loner comes after me, I let him take the kill. I believe in spreading the love.

Have tried these a handful of times as both hunter and hunted...rarely accept them anymore since they don't seem worthwhile...

Have seen times when they are part of dailies that players trigger them and just let the timers run out to help others...

When I'm the hunted I see what direction they are approaching from and try to find high ground that can't be accessed directly so they are either forced to engage from below or lose time taking the long way around...New Austin in particular has many cliff top spots that are great for this...

Happy Hunter

Depends on the player or players after me I guess. If it's a group of players, or someone high level enough to cheese the kill they need with explosive + PiB - then I'll probably just ride off until the timer's down.

It's something that should be fun in theory, but has issues. Like, if you run they're basically not going to get you, so long as you do it quick.

I stayed to fight the first few times then someone blew up my horse, now I wait until they get fairly close then change sessions or log off.

Fifty/fifty. The players that activate this missions are idiots. If I go to the strange mission and is for kill players I leave.

I've been marked twice and I like to go to the dilapidated house that has the manbearpig from single player in it. Just sit there with a shotgun and when they finally figure out I'm in the house and come up they get blasted lol
