Explain hideouts

Yes and no. The amount of loot was greater, but it wasnt anything special. Ammo laying around. Whiskey, tonics and some salted beef laying about. But then we hit the motherload... a chest inside the back of a wagon, which through Eagle Eye was glowing and indicated it could he scavenged. There was no way into this wagon. Couldnt jump into it from the back, and since it was covered the front was out of the question. We tried for maybe 7 minutes to figure out how to get in. Even got a wagon of our own to jump down into it, but the game said, "Lol... no." 

 

A few days ago we were down in Leymone near the swamp and came up on a hideout near the covered bridge. Same deal, wagon with a chest. This time we had dynamite... yeah no. Did not make a difference.

 

What is the point of spawning chests in these wagons if no one can get into them?

 

Also, off topic, but slightly relevant:

Upstairs in the house at Hanging Dog Ranch, there is a lockbox next to the beds, that I have come across during my loot runs since day 1, it has always been empty. Has anyone ever gotten anything out of this?

boxes/crates are either empty or you find something in there, period, it doesn't change. and I know about that UNREACHABLE chest on that wagon at the hideout right in front of armadillo, because I wanted to get there too. after 10 minutes I glitched my way in there and looted that motherf*cking chest and it was the best loot EVER -  420 dollars and 4.20 goldbars. nah kidding of course it is empty...

Decided to let a gang leader go once but after calling me a chicken and other less than kind jibes at my good self i shot the running varmint in the back, felt kinda bad but hey he had a treasure map on him which was nice. :)

 

Shoulda kept his trap shut.

Good question on the chests and lock boxes; also, FWIW, I've noticed that some houses/huts are only partially open--one such house is near the Lagras Fast Travel location. Only half the house is explorable; the other half is locked and its interior doesn't show up in the radar... makes me wonder what plans (hopefully something) R* has for these kinds of rooms/buildings.

 

I'm still wondering why the cool kick-down door animation can't open locked doors that aren't boarded up. And even then, it would be nice to blow these open with dynamite.

 

Seems like there are four types of doors in RDO with the following (potential) access:

 

* Unlocked (wooden); just walk in

* Locked (wooden); use kick-down animation to get inside

* Locked (steel); requires a special key to access

* Boarded up (wooden); use dynamite to blow open
