So the leader at the end begs you to spare him... what is the advantage to sparing him vs killing him?

If you kill him after he surrenders, it’s bad honor and if you let him live it’s good honor.

Ah; this tough, ruthless bad guy who has the respect of a whole bunch of other bad guys... who suddenly turns into the world's biggest chicken. What the cluck?

Square pegs, round holes.

Remind me to never be on Rockstar's debating team.

Simpler solution: For good honor, leave the gang member horses alone. For bad honor, kill them.

That's it... lol

I thought if you let him live he would give you something.

Some people used to say that you could possibly receive a treasure map at the post office for sparing them rather than looting it off of them.  I haven't heard that claim since the beginning of BETA.  Me personally: I always melee/execution kill that bitch with my knife to help keep my honor low.   I do the same at the camp defends, I always kill the campers after. It's kinda like "I didn't come to save you, I came to rob the robbers and I'm not going to leave any witnesses behind"

I always spare them then knock them out. Get a little extra XP out of it and don't lose honor. Not that losing honor means much in this game because it is way too easy to get good honor.

Eh I dunno, that'd be like shooting dogs to me, just wouldn't like that. Really hideouts should just reward good honour only and have a bad honour equivalent, like some form of robbery or hold up something. The honour system really struggles in online cause all the content has to straddle both good and bad honour, which makes playing either one kinda weird. Good, honest cowboys should not be doing what wanted outlaws are doing.

Why should hideouts be high honor? I'm killing a bunch of my rivals so I can control more... seems like a low honor event to me.

I wouldn't be though, I'm killing a bunch of bandits hiding out.

Not to say you're wrong in how you approach these of course, just showing there's plenty of room to roleplay in other ways, I'm not a rival bandit out there, lol.

You don't even need to spare him first. Just have your pistol/revolver etc out and melee knock them. It counts as spare but you get the extra body to loot. I have only gotten a map from the leader about 3-4 times, but it's still a chance

Armored stage coaches operated by NPC's.

The player can choose to ROB the stagecoach. Bad Honour.

or escort the stagecoach to it's destination. Good Honour.

As for camps/hideouts. Leave them as is, but maybe add a captive prisoner or two. Good players release them, bad players rob them and release them, or kill them and rob them. etc

That hideout idea is fantastic. Stagecoaches being able to be robbed or defended feels like it would end up having PvP involved, so idk, personally I want PvE robberies.

Lol, I heard this as well, but a different variant; some used to say that if you spared the leader, then hog-tied and looted them as they were running away, you may be more likely to find a map. It's a myth though; I do the same as you, but I'd never thought to kill the campers/travellers! 😈

I like this idea; small changes and additions like this would make the game so much more enjoyable!

I suspect treasure maps may be connected to the number of enemies looted.

IDK. I've gone over 1000 enemies looted without a map (reset award and got it again).

I've also looted 3 maps in one day (a long time ago). It's just fickle rng.

VERY good ideas! Would add some nice variety and depth to game play.

Solid stuff. Would love to see R* add this.

In a way, it would be like the Armored Trucks idea in GTA Online--sometimes you got lucky and grabbed the money yourself; other times, another player fought you for it. Either way, was a lot of fun.

I'd also love to see some kind of "crashed balloon basket" with some cash and bits of gold bars or other loot as a crate drop equivalent in the game.

Dynamic events that encourage PvP would be cool, but I want PvE outlaw stuff in free roam as well. Home robberies and sh*t would be cool and would encourage exploring the full map.

Yeah, people keep going on about hideout leaders, looting people before or after finishing the hideout, how many hideouts you complete, which hideout you complete, how much money or gold you have, how many maps you've looted prior, which missions or ambushes you do, but it doesn't matter, the map drops happen randomly from stranger mission/hideout/ambush enemies, there's no fancy logic to it, just simple random chance, you either get lucky and loot a map or you don't.

Cleared a hideout and some lvl 30 kills me. I press charges, then explosive ammo him and his horse. He parlays.

I messaged him 'Y Tho?'

and he explains that he thinks EVERY hideout has a treasure map that can be looted so he wanted to get it, so kill me...

Listen up kids... I've cleared 30+ hideouts and only ever found ONE treasure map on the bodies. Both sparing and killing the leader.

^ Boggles my mind how misinformation about game mechanics and features is still rife in 2019. Same people who think Rockstar mess with animal spawns AND herb spawns when they're up for dailies. Animal spawns is one thing... but herbs, lol.

I always spare them but I push the button to hogtie them right before. Pick his pockets while he is down there. Just beware if you do this often times he will wriggle himself free and begin attacking you, to avoid losing honor you must keep him hogtied until you're done looting the joint and leave. Just be sure when looting a hideout to keep an eye in the direction where you have him hogtied for the moment and be ready at any time to hogtie him again. Radar is also just effective, if a red dot suddenly appears on your radar, that means he is free again. He is most dangerous if he is packing a shotgun, in which case don't go for tackles, get him from a distance.

I don't know if leaders truly have an increased drop rate for maps, but what this belief most likely stems from is the very first hideout you do and the leader offering to give you a map if you spared him. I still hate leaving him unlooted cause that one time he may of actually had a map on him.

First leader I spared shot me in the head. I'm not sparing them ever since, especially when they have nice hats I can take.

actually, I kill every npc with a nice hat, if I don't have one on. They have much nicer hats than we do...

During the "Beta" period my friend and I cleared out a hideout to the north east of Armadillo... when we were done, we decided to loot the place the best we could (previous hideouts we did were at the dock south of Blackwater and by the Falls), to see if maybe these guys had some decent stuff laying about. The previous hideouts were the simple makeshift hideouts that didn't give any loot aside from the bodies, so our general thinking was that a traditional camp with wagons would have some better stuff.

Yes and no. The amount of loot was greater, but it wasnt anything special. Ammo laying around. Whiskey, tonics and some salted beef laying about. But then we hit the motherload... a chest inside the back of a wagon, which through Eagle Eye was glowing and indicated it could he scavenged. There was no way into this wagon. Couldnt jump into it from the back, and since it was covered the front was out of the question. We tried for maybe 7 minutes to figure out how to get in. Even got a wagon of our own to jump down into it, but the game said, "Lol... no."

A few days ago we were down in Leymone near the swamp and came up on a hideout near the covered bridge. Same deal, wagon with a chest. This time we had dynamite... yeah no. Did not make a difference.

What is the point of spawning chests in these wagons if no one can get into them?

Also, off topic, but slightly relevant:

Upstairs in the house at Hanging Dog Ranch, there is a lockbox next to the beds, that I have come across during my loot runs since day 1, it has always been empty. Has anyone ever gotten anything out of this?

Yeah, there are dynamic PvP events... they are called free roam missions, namely the Target for Assassination. Until this game can address the issues with the combat balance and bring free aim into the mix (because let's all be honest, ain't no skill involved with an aiming system that snaps directly to another player).

As per the PvE; Hopefully that is what we will get with this summer update. It would be a great change of pace to see the Collector explore regions of the map that they never bothered to venture during the story (similar to when you go to that random cave with Winton Holmes to hunt the snow cougar). Or for the Bounty Hunter path have to track down NPC outlaws and clear out bigger hideouts (think of clearing a Tumbleweed hideout in the first Redemptions's multiplayer), without needing to worry about interference from other players. I think that truly is my biggest gripe with these free roam missions. I do not want to have to grind out these missions (and subsequently wait until the final minute to turn in due to Rockstar logic) with the worry of being killed/having the target taken/killed or having what I am transporting destroyed.

Edit: On the subject of PvE content... unless I am remembering this entirely wrong, there was this amazing event during the initial days of the first Redemption's online life where I recall all players being summoned to El Presidio to fight off an attack from NPCs. People manned the walls and the cannons and held out for as long as they could. It was truly one of the best experiences I had in that game.

🤔  Could be a glitch or something, but herb spawns do not move for me have been 100% consistent. Lotta people reuse the same spots for the dailies.

Those aren't dynamic, they're triggered. A dynamic PvP event would be something like a train rolling through that alerts all players in the area that you could rob or defend for reward, or a town under attack that you could help defend or rob, etc.
