Hiring a lawyer

Now this depends entirely on the character R* creates and if they have a criminal empire to run. If they're a hired gun or just not interested in running a criminal empire then they don't really need to hire a lawyer.

Having a lawyer can be very useful for criminals especially if you run an illegal criminal empire. They could help you find ways to launder your money, feed you information, and keep your organization out of legal trouble. Lawyers could tell you about potential witnesses that could testify in court or jurors. Witnesses intimidation and jury tampering and the case is thrown out of court keeping our protagonist free.

To other things say one of the members of your organization gets picked up arrested. Your lawyer gets them out with a slap on the wrist. Or in free roam if you get busted instead of losing all your weapons if you got a good lawyer you keep your weapons and the drugs you had stashed in the trunk of your car.

It would also be a nice callback to this

Would be interesting, like when you get that cop girlfriend in San Andreas so when you get arrested you don't lose any weapons. And I think it should be more like Heist crews in GTA V, where each has a different ability and a different pay.

So let's say normally when you get arrested without a lawyer, you lose all your weapons, your car goes to a crusher and 24 in-game hours pass. If you get a sh*tty lawyer, you'll leave jail with pistols and melee weapons, you'll be able to recover your car in the impound lot and 18 in-game hours pass. And if you get a great lawyer, you'll leave jail with all your weapons, your car and everything inside it will be at the impound lot and 6 in-game hours pass.

Alternativelly, you could call a hacker to remove your charges from the system, it would cost more and take longer, but you're sure to leave jail with everything you had when going in.

But I also feel like in order for this to work, the police should, y'know, actually try to arrest you. None of those slow fat cops from GTA IV or the trigger-happy police from V, they should carry (and use) tazers and nightsticks, maybe even tackle the player at higher wanted levels.

Love this idea. And I really miss those comments when busted. Sadly, as a grown up, I never get busted, so I don't hear them :( To add on to this idea, they need to make death a worse option than being busted. Or make it possible to surrender on any wanted level. Staying alive should be a priority. "You'll never take me alive" in a game where you respawn doesn't have the same impact. Instead, it feels like taking the easy way out.

Unrelated to the lawyer thing but I've also wanted to see a protagonist be placed under house arrest. That would only work with multiple protagonists though.

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me, especially to have the lawyer on your payroll in the game.

I never noticed that when i used to play vice city.

I think a system like the Godfather 2 might be useful, you do a favor for a police chief or top lawyer and he can bail you out if arrested or act as a get out of jail free card in a sense. Like maybe the chief needs a informant iced that's going to rat on him or the lawyer wants a witness or enemy lawyer killed or something.

Different types of lawyers you could hire.

The ambulance chasers, a mid level lawyer, and the sharks who are the best at what they do.

Each different with pros and cons. Don't write off the Ambulance chasers one of them could be like Saul Goodman and get you heavily involved with criminal stuff. Though thinking about this I wouldn't mind only having one canon story lawyer.

In addition to what I said earlier, I REALLY like the idea of this. tbh I honestly think that if you choose to kill Derrick in GTA IV, from that point forward, if you get arrested, Francis is the one to have Niko out of jail akin to how Ken Rosenberg does it with Tommy Vercetti, as shown within the video and even makes some sort of quote. I also think that at some point forward within the game of GTA V, Dave Norton should be the one where if Michael, Trevor, or Franklin gets arrested, to have them out of jail and you hear one of his quotes. They also could’ve easily done this with Ray Machowski when Claude gets arrested in III (and yes, I know III came out before VC) and also with Mike Toreno when CJ gets arrested in SA.

I like this idea, it goes back to the idea of actually running a crime 'business'.

Since you mentioned gang members - what if we were able to recruit for our gang? If one of them crossed you, we could assassinate them or send someone to do it.

Or convince them to do the time for you.

Hiring a lawyer wouldn't be the same if the lawyer couldn't defend an innocent man all the way to death row.

Interesting idea... in essence it's kind of a "get-out-of-jail-free" card, and depending on which version you get (Silver, Gold, Platinum) you get to leave with more (or less) of your inventory / assets. Add some side missions for each type of lawyer to become this one's client and it would be a neat addition.

Great idea! You could have some RDR2-esque sh*t where instead of showing a prisonbreak in a cutscene, you could have the lawyer just barge into the police station demanding your release and stuff.

as an entourage of sharp looking mfs, stroll in, some on their phones with business speak, as the lead one attention grabbingly places their papers/case infront of the police receptionist desk..,

Trump should make the day VI is revealed a national holiday.

And another one for when it is released.

What does that have to do with Lawyers in GTA?

Adding to house arrest. I'd like to see Probation officers if our protagonist has just been released from prison and is out on parole.

Great ideal. We all hate those trigger finger cops in gta v, knife stick and tasers for what?

Different level lawyers with perks is cool; imagine a Donald Love type of charater trying to sue you.

This is such an amazing idea and they can even implement it into GTAO 2.0 as well. And you go to jail if you cant afford a lawyer and then have to break out

This is genius, hope the devs are reading this thread, and it's not too late to implement.

Also, holy crap I never knew about the Rosenberg thing in the video, avoided getting busted pretty successfully.
