Monthly Playstation Plus Benefits For RDO

So much for the OG Blog saying "stay tuned". Maybe it meant the game and not the Blog lol. Anywho, not gonna b*tch about free since I need Plus regardless.

Not sure why they try to masquerade it as Plus benefits when Plus is a requirement, may as well cut to the chase and say for PS4 players only.

That's a Sony thing. They get a lot of PSN exclusive bonuses, it's an advertised benefit for being a PSN member.

Cause Sony still party like it's 2010 with buying up platform exclusive content cause uh.

Yeah, even though I benefit from it (PS4 Slim here), I'm not a fan of exclusive anything for any platform.

IMO, if you work for something and earn it in game, then fine.

Freebies (and Ability Cards, because they represent anything BUT real skill) just divide the gaming community, and screw up game play.

How is an ability card - it costs ingame money and experience and increases your combat effectiveness - any different to say, buying a better gun or type of ammunition?

To be fair, it doesn't make THAT much of a difference. But, if and when free-aim lobbies are introduced, it will.

And it's exactly the same one I got already. Not even a different colour added....., Gee, thanks Rockstar. I feel really appreciated now...

Here you complain about it being the same colour you already have.

Logged in the game again and now I got a different message about the gift. I checked the wardrobe again and now I have a rope offhand in a different color. Yay, but it doesn't match my current rope gun belt...., so yeah, that's a waste.

And when you get a different colour you bitch about it not matching the colour you already have...

Seems to me you’re never satisfied.

If your character approaches me with a shotgun (short-range), I have a good idea of what I need to do to (possibly) survive or evade you. It's obvious; it makes sense.

But if I then shoot your character in the head at distance with a bolt-action rifle, and your hat gets knocked off, but you're still alive and kicking (because of an "Ability" Card), how could I possibly have known ahead of time what approach I need to take to try and adequately defend myself? An "Ability" Card like this is just meaningless. It's NOT based on anything even remotely plausible or realistic--it's just another means for R* to monetize players.

If Ability Cards were actually based on plausible, earned-by-the-player-themselves skills (like GTA Online's skill system), I'd have no problem with them whatsoever.

It's a very good point but it's not really proof that the idea of ability cards are divisive or lack player skill, more so that Never Without One is f*cking horrible and needs to be binned in PvP.

This is a game where you can pay gold to lighten or blacken your soul.  There are witches cabins.  There are ghosts.  A time traveler.  UFOs.  It has an actual vampire in it. In ten years time there will be an actual zombie uprising.  Plausibility and Realism were never cornerstones of the Red Dead World.  The supernatural has always been there.

You can’t really identify what weapons someone is using unless they are at very close range or until they have opened fire. If they are on a horse, they could have anything.  That person whose hat you shot off wouldn’t have been able to tell that you had a bolt action rifle until you shot at them.  He definitely wouldn’t have known if the rifle had iron sights or a rifled barrel.

You certainly can’t tell if they are using special ammunition or not - and ammunition makes a bigger difference than any ability card.  So does pretty much any weapon upgrade.

As for the ability cards being supernatural rather than ‘plausible or realistic’ - our character carries around fifty kilos of kit in an invisible satchel and a dozen guns and thousands of bullets in magical saddlebags.  They magically regenerate their health by snacking on food and miracle potions.  Cigarettes give them super shooting powers. I don’t why a magic card that fractionaly reduces the amount of damage taken, or marginally increases the amount of damage dealt is suddenly a dealbreaker.  Would it be different if Never Without One was a helmet?  Or if Slippery Bastard was a camouflaged outfit?

And how are ability cards monetising the game?  You can’t pay gold for them.  You have to work for them.  The only way they can be obtained is by paying ingame currency and through experience points - both of which you earn by just playing the game, you can’t pay real world money to buy RDonline dollars or experience points.

Think we can keep the thread on track? Ability cards have nothing to do with PS Plus. There's a B&M thread if you have issues with them.
