I don't think there are any graphical mods for GTA IV on PS3, actually is already a miracle that that console is able to run the game.

But if there are any graphical mods, surely you'll need a jailbroken PS3. Now, I don't want to go too much deep on this arguement because we're exactly at the border that divides the "legal world" to the "illegal world", so I'll tell you the legal way.

Of course having the PS3 jailbroken isn't illegal, you just want to have access to more functionalities that the stock system can't offer you normally... But if you use the jailbreak for playing downloaded games or for accessing the PSN with some workarounds, then we're talking about illegal stuff. Remember that a PS3 with a Custom Firmware (in theory) can't access the PSN, so you'll lose all the online functionalities of your system.

If there is a mod that you like you'll probably need to modify the games' files. First of all you have to have a backup of GTA IV, there are some homebrews that can make backups of Blu-Rays. Then you transfer your backup to your PC and you follow the steps to install the mod correctly. After that you can transfer your modded backup to your PS3.

I know there are some mods that could be installed on the save file (no jailbreak required), but I think those are just object spawners and nothing more. For the graphics I think you'll have to modify the game files.

Well, you could use any modified timecyc mods for PC, on the consoles, those count as graphical mods.

Really? I didn't know there were modified timecyc mods for PS3.

But I guess you'd always have to modify the original game's files, that's probably why they count as graphical mods.

For me it looks like the PC version at 720p at low settings with a graphical mod installed.

But if you go to read the forum page linked in the description of the video, it seems that these PC mods could really be put somehow into the console versions.

If you want to try that, just follow the link in the description, you'll need OpenIV which, if I remember correctly, has the option of opening even the PS3 and the Xbox 360 versions of GTA IV. And you'll need a backup of GTA IV, of course of your original copy for keeping it legal.

However, do you want my advice? Even if it's possible to use graphical mods on the console versions, don't install them.

PS3 already struggles to mantain 30 FPS, if you add mods you'll put more weight on the GPU and the CPU. Putting more weight on the CELL processor of the PS3 isn't the best thing to do, that CPU overheats easilly (especially if you have a FAT/early Slim model).
