KGBeast
Been a while but it's finally time for the VCS edition of this. And it's a long one so let's get started. Out of the 5 main 3D universe games, VCS without a doubt is the most interesting when you break down the % structure. For many reasons. To start, there are two versions, one of which with extra content that still counts towards 100%, changing the % structure of the game. It also by far has the highest number of individual objectives that reward %, in fact it still holds that record. It also rewards you with % for some pretty odd things that don't apply to the other games. And there's a well known % "bug" in the PS2 version. The PSP version has 223 Objectives worth 0.45% each (0.4484304933). The game rounds to the nearest single decimal place, so on the stats menu it will appear you're alternating between gaining 0.4% and 0.5% each time you complete an objective. The PS2 version has 240 (holy cow) Objectives worth 0.417% each (~0.4166666667). The game rounds to a single decimal place so you'll go up 0.5 every 6th objective instead of 0.4 since that's when the 0.017s add up to 0.1 (6 x 0.0166666667 = 0.1). However, as mentioned, there's a famous "bug" in this version that only requires you to complete 239 of these objectives, leaving any 1 left over and no longer required (for most people that's Skywolf since it's the last piece of content to become available). So you'll only ever have to actually earn 99.6%, at that point you automatically jump to 100%. I DO NOT believe this is a "bug" as is commonly claimed, but an intentional feature that solves an issue with a certain objective point that may be missed. I'll get into that when the objective in question comes up. :59 Story Missions: PSP - 26.46% PS2 - 24.6% 1 - Soldier - Martinez 2 - Cleaning House 3 - Conduct Unbecoming 4 - Cholo Victory 5 - Boomshine Blowout 6 - Truck Stop 7 - Shakedown 8 - Fear the Repo 9 - Waking Up the Neighbors 10 - O, Brothel, Where Art Thou? 11 - Got Protection? 12 - Marked Men 13 - When Funday Comes 14 - Takin' Out the White-Trash 15 - D.I.V.O.R.C.E. 16 - To Victor, the Spoils 17 - Jive Drive 18 - Hose the Hoes 19 - Robbing the Cradle 20 - Nice Package 21 - Balls 22 - Papi Don't Screech 23 - Havana Good Time 24 - The Audition 25 - Money for Nothing 26 - Caught as an Act 27 - Leap and Bound 28 - The Bum Deal 29 - Snitch Hitch 30 - From Zero to Hero 31 - Brawn of the Dead 32 - Blitzkrieg 33 - Accidents Will Happen 34 - The Mugshot Longshot 35 - Hostile Takeover 36 - Unfriendly Competition 37 - High Wire 38 - Turn On, Tune In, Bug Out 39 - The Colonel's Coke 40 - Kill Phil 41 - Say Cheese 42 - Home's on the Range 43 - Purple Haze 44 - Taking the Fall 45 - White Lies 46 - Where It Hurts Most 47 - Kill Phil: Part 2 48 - Steal the Deal 49 - The Exchange 50 - Farewell to Arms 51 - Burning Bridges 52 - Blitzkrieg Strikes Again 53 - Lost and Found 54 - So Long Schlong 55 - Domo Arigato Domestoboto 56 - In the Air Tonight 57 - Light My Pyre 58 - Over the Top 59 - Last Stand :Empire Building: PSP Total - 12.6% PS2 Total - 11.67% Now this is where things get really interesting. Since Empire Building is unique to VCS this section would be unique enough, but as I researched and tested it I was very surprised by what actually gives you % here. It didn't work at all like I expected it to. :1 Successful Attack on an Enemy Site: PSP - 0.45% PS2 - 0.417% Yes really. This does not apply to the three sites you take over for Marty. After Empire Building is unlocked, you'll get an objective point for the first empire site you successfully atack. You do not need to buy or develop it, the % is rewarded as soon as the 'Attack Passed' message appears. :6 sets of 5 Empire Sites, 30 Total: PSP - 2.7% PS2 - 2.5% There are 30 sites total and every time you purchase or receive 5 of them, you get an objective point for 6 points total. This includes the 4 given to you in the story. 3 from Marty and the last in 'Hostile Takeover' for the Mendez Brothers. So the structure here is: 1 - Empire Sites 1-5 (3 from Marty and 2 bought) 2 - Empire Sites 6-10 (5 bought) 3 - Empire Sites 11-15 (5 bought) 4 - Empire Sites 16-20 (5 bought) 5 - Empire Sites 21-25 (5 bought) 6 - Empire Sites 26-30 (4 bought and 1 from 'Hostile Takeover') :3 Unlockable Business Types: PSP - 1.35% PS2 - 1.25% There are 6 business types and 3 must be unlocked. The first time you takeover an enemy empire site of those 3 types, you unlock the business type and get an objective point. I think most people don't realize you get % for this. 1 - Drugs 2 - Smuggling 3 - Robbery "Bug" Explanation This is where I believe the % "bug" that gives you 100% without completing every objective in the PS2 version arises. Consider this scenario. At the time you takeover that last site in the mission 'Hostile Takeover' you own all 29 other sites but only have Smuggling and Robbery unlocked, not Drugs. The Biker site you takeover in 'Hostile Takeover' is always Drugs. Since it's a mission reward, this means you'd acquire the site without ever being given credit for attacking and taking over the Drugs business type, meaning you wouldn't be credited with % for unlocking it even though it would be unlocked after the mission. I believe Rockstar Leeds intentionally programmed the game to reward you with 100% automatically at 99.6% to compensate for the possibility that you might miss the objective point for unlocking the Drugs business type. Not 100% on this but it is the most logical explanation I've been able to put together. :6 High Roller Empire Sites: PSP - 2.7% PS2 - 2.5% Simple enough. You get a point each time you develop a high roller site for each of the 6 business types. 1 - Protection Racket 2 - Loan Shark 3 - Prostitution 4 - Drugs 5 - Smuggling 6 - Robbery :12 Empire Reputation Levels: PSP - 5.4% PS2 - 5% This is another intesting thing. As you know if you've played the game, once you develop an empire site you can do missions relating to the business type. What you may not know is that you don't actually get % for completing those missions, but for increasing your reputation level in each business, which is done through completing the missions. Each of the 6 business types has 2 reputation levels (basically a starter level and a master level), and you get a point each time you earn a reputation level/title, for a total of 12 points. 1 - Protection Racket, 1 job - Hoodlum 2 - Protection Racket, 15 jobs - Ultimate Badass 3 - Loan Shark, 1 job - Lifter 4 - Loan Shark, 15 jobs - Crim Reaper 5 - Prostitution, 1 job - Panderer 6 - Prostitution, 15 jobs - Mack Daddy 7 - Drugs, 1 job - Dealer 8 - Drugs, 6 jobs - Smack Daddy 9 - Smuggling, 1 job - Mule 10 - Smuggling, 6 jobs - Pirate Captain 11 - Robbery, 1 job - Larcenist 12 - Robbery, 6 jobs - Heist Meister :Rampages: PSP - 30 Rampages - 13.45% PS2 - 35 Rampages - 14.6% In this game, like LCS, you get a point for every Rampage after completing them. Again, an improvement from III and VC where you only got a single point for completing all Rampages. The PS2 version has 5 extra Rampages, thus the higher total % despite each one being worth slightly less. 1 - Little Havana, Pistol 2 - Little Havana, Katana 3 - Little Havana, Sniper 4 - Little Havana, Scorpion 5 - Little Haiti, Uzi 6 - Little Haiti, Molotovs 7 - Downtown, Car 8 - Downtown, AK 1 9 - Downtown, AK 2 10 - Downtown, Molotovs 11 - Downtown, Shotgun 12 - Downtown, Uzi 1 (Driveby) 13 - Downtown, Grenades 14 - Downtown, Uzi 2 (Driveby) 15 - Downtown, SMG 16 - Downtown, Sniper 17 - Ocean Beach, M4 18 - Ocean Beach, Sniper 19 - Ocean Beach, Rocket Launcher 20 - Ocean Beach, M249 21 - Ocean Beach, Qualizer 22 - Washington Beach, Minigun 23 - Washington Beach, SMG 24 - Vice Point, Minigun 25 - Vice Point, M4 26 - Vice Point, Grenades 27 - Vice Point, Shotgun 28 - Vice Point, Equalizer 29 - Leaf Links, Remote grenades 30 - Leaf Links, Golf club PS2 Exclusive Rampages 31 - Little Havana, Stubby Shotgun 32 - Starfish Island, Combat Shotgun 33 - Prawn Island, Rocket Launcher 34 - Ocean Beach, Sniper 35 - Vice Beach, M249 :1 point for completing all Rampages: PSP - 0.45% PS2 - 0.417% This is unique to VCS. After completing all Rampages and Stunt Jumps you're rewarded a bonus point. I first noticed this while testing for this guide, after completing the final Rampage my total jumped up two points instead of one. Confirmed after completing all Stunt Jumps resulted in the same thing. :10 sets of Balloons (9x10 and 1x9), 99 total: PSP - 4.5% PS2 - 4.17% Yet another oddity of VCS, 99 collectibles instead of 100. In III, VC, and LCS, you get an objective point for every 10 collectibles you find, for ten points total. That's still true here except the last point is rewarded after 9 balloons are burst. 1 - Red Balloons 1-10 - Pistol 2 - Red Ballons 11-20 - Scorpion 3 - Red Balloons 21-30 - Stubby shotgun 4 - Red Balloons 31-40 - Molotovs 5 - Red Balloons 41-50 - AK 6 - Red Balloons 51-60 - Armor 7 - Red Balloons 61-70 - Flamethrower 8 - Red Balloons 71-80 - Equalizer 9 - Red Balloons 81-90 - Sniper 10 - Red Balloons 91-99 - M249 :Unique Stunt Jumps: PSP - 30 Jumps - 13.45% PS2 - 36 Jumps - 15% Same deal as Rampages in terms of %. The PS2 version has 6 extra Stunt Jumps. 1 - Escobar Intl. 1 2 - Escobar Intl. 2 3 - Escobar Intl. 4 - Viceport 1 5 - Viceport 2 6 - Viceport 3 7 - Viceport 4 8 - Little Havana 1 9 - Little Havana 2 10 - Little Havana 3 11 - Little Haiti 1 12 - Little Haiti 2 13 - Downtown 1 14 - Downtown 2 15 - Downtown 3 16 - Downtown 4 17 - Downtown 5 18 - Downtown 6 19 - Downtown 7 20 - Downtown 8 21 - Ocean Beach 1 22 - Ocean Beach 2 23 - Ocean Beach 3 24 - Washington Beach 25 - Vice Point 1 26 - Vice Point 2 27 - Vice Point 3 28 - Vice Point 4 29 - Vice Point 5 30 - Leaf Links PS2 Exclusive Stunt Jumps 31 - Little Havana 4 32 - Starfish Island 33 - Ocean Beach 4 34 - Ocean Beach 5 35 - Vice Point 6 36 - Vice Point 7 :1 point for completing all Unique Stunt Jumps: PSP - 0.45% PS2 - 0.417% :6 Vehicle Side Missions: PSP - 2.7% PS2 - 2.5% It's well known VCS introduced changes here, bumping the level requirement from 12 to 15 but introducing checkpoints every 5 levels. Also changing how Taxi Driver works. No changes in the way % is given for them though, still just one point per. 1 - Taxi Driver, 50 fares or $5000 - Taxi jump 2 - Firefighter, 15 levels - Fireproof 3 - Paramedic, 15 levels - Infinite sprint 4 - Vigilante, 15 levels - Extra armor 5 - Beach Patrol, 15 levels - Infinite swim 6 - Air Rescue, 15 levels - Extra health :4 Civil Asset Forfeiture Impound Lists (8 vehicles each, 32 total): PSP - 1.8% PS2 - 1.7% This works the same as ever, one objective point per list. 1 - Impound list 1 2 - Impound list 2 3 - Impound list 3 4 - Dry Dock list :1 Crash! Run ($2000 in damage): PSP - 0.45% PS2 - 0.417% :Checkpoint Missions: PSP - 8 Missions - 3.6% PS2 - 13 Missions - 5.42% There are 5 PS2 exclusive checkpoint missions. 1 - Playground on the Town 2 - Playground on the Point 3 - Mashin' Up the Mall 4 - Haiti Hover Race 5 - Harbor Hover Race 6 - Crims on Wings 7 - Land, Sea, and Air Ace 8 - Skywolf PS2 Exclusive 9 - Playground on the Dock 10 - Playground on the Park 11 - Caddy Daddt 12 - Hyman Memorial O.D.T. 13 - Crims on Water Wings :2 Helicopter Side Missions: PSP - 0.9% PS2 - 0.83% 1 - Vice Sights, 5 levels 2 - Fire Copter, 5 levels :1 round at Swinger's Club (500 points): PSP - 0.45% PS2 - 0.417% :1 set of 5 rounds at Phil's Shooting Range: PSP - 0.45% PS2 - 0.417% :9 Turismo Street Races: PSP - 4.04% PS2 - 3.75% West 1 - Escobar Run-way 2 - Downtown Showdown 3 - Port Sports 4 - Rum & Salsa Sting 5 - Cuban Wheels East 6 - Fools Rush 7 - High Stakes Highway 8 - Asphalt Assault 9 - Supercharged Circuit :8 Watersports Courses: PSP - 3.6% PS2 - 3.33% Just like Bumps & Grinds in LCS, you actually get a point for every time trial course you complete. Post for IV and EFLC will be coming soon, and I decided to do one f or V despite not originally planning to. Still have a little work to do on that one though because of the odd % structure it has and the choices you can make in the story, it turned out to be more interesting than I thought.
