Doesn’t Sam write everything anyways, or is it the other way around? I’d say this is fairly significant... I wonder if he’s leaving because they had a disagreement about VI or the future of the company in general? Interesting..

This is actually really huge. Dan was the main writer and played a big role in the development of every R* game. 

 

Weren't T2 trying to get R* to release more games; more quickly? 

 

Maybe that was a part of why he's leaving? 

 

Either way end of an era.

I suppose it's the end of GTA we knew. But not because he's leaving, more because Online is still here and it's full of predatory mechanics and built around car and property ownership. I'm old school GTA fan, my first game was London 1969 and I was tremendously underage to play the thing at the time, but Online is something different. It's not bad per se, it's just not GTA I knew anymore. San Andreas was the most advanced in terms of gameplay, IV in terms of story and V is just... modern, most polished? Anyway, I don't like what's going with Online and I'm pretty sure next thing will be barely playable offline.

See, I was thinking the same up until Red Dead Redemption 2 was released, the online is meh but the story mode is fantastic, if they can do the same with the next game, I would be very happy.

It didn't give GTAV any life that's for sure lol

GTAOnline grew into it's own thing just as they wanted it to be from the very beginning, storymode paid the price of it though.

Dan Houser is leaving R*. Will it effect GTA Online in any way? 

He took an extended break in spring 2019, I don't think he was involved much with GTA Online.

Dan was a high level employee, and they usually finish a big project, then move to the next one. He probably didn't do anything for Online, maybe heists if anything.

 

Online will continue to be a mess and single player will always be left to dry

Took a break not long after RDR2 and decided that he’d had enough.

So the Benz is gone, and he (IIRC) was a key mind regarding story modes, now Dan too, another big one. Plus we've got T2 wanting shorter development time between releases (though that wasn't directed at GTA/RDR/R* Games, it wasn't not either, lol).

 

On top of GTA:O breaking all sorts of records, and RDRO said to be doing so well (with f*ck all and much of it broken).

 

All that comes to mind is 'f*ck!'

Why does Rockstar even need Take Two?

 

They've should have gone independent years ago like Valve did from Siera.

Sierra was only the publisher of Half-Life; Take Two owns Rockstar.

Never asked for 7 year old game being relevant through over-monetized DLCs. We're due for a new GTA since 2018

Edit: Wow, the Dinkas are up next on SSA after the Drift Yosemite... time sure flew by. I wonder if they'll finish up the SSA cars so they can release the open wheelers in early/mid March?

Only in cases where 'third parties' are actually customers and loyal franchise fans and only if they want to get some praise. For everything else I've already paid, so I don't owe anything to R*. It's a corporation, mate. They will hire you, chew you up and spit you out in a heartbeat while forcing you to sign various DNDs and other stuff. They will sell you sh*t if they can (see, Texas Instruments in US), they will drive the prices like they want (see US healthcare),  etc, etc. I won't praise R* for micro-transactions and mechanics revolving around them, even if this content is free. Yeah, like @RedDagger have said, "Free content can be sh*t".

 

And yeah, I would rather purchased GTA 6 in 2018-19, because 5 years is enough of a gap.
