Soonest I can see it coming is in holiday 2021, but agree that spring 2022 is most reasonable. Interested when they will reveal something... would think this year.

As long as GTA Online continues to maintain it's current momentum, then I doubt we'll see anything about the next GTA any time soon. I would not at all be surprised if the next GTA game releases in the middle of the next generation of consoles life cycle. With that said, I do hope that GTA V gets an enhancement update of some sort so that it can run at least 1440p/60fps on the new console hardware.

Well, I hope the current GTA V map is included with the new map that they're working on for GTA 6.  There was talk about adding maps until GTA Online was a whole world of locations or something, back before GTA V came out.  Seems lofty, but I hope they haven't given up on that already.  But still, if they were planning to go down that road, then any map expansions would end up in GTA 6 anyway, so if it helps keep this game going until the next game comes out... it could be worth it.  Assuming it's small enough to not be a big deal.

I wonder how much work would be in a refresh for next gen, if they re-used the PC version graphical stuff then presumably it'd be pretty easy ? would it be worth it though ? how many would it sell ? maybe if Sony paid them and it got included in a bundle with consoles ? But if you had a PS4 version that works on PS5 anyway, who would spend say £25-30 just to get better graphics ? especially when other new games are either available or on their way.

 

They elected not to make a 4k version for PS4 pro / Xbox one x, the only counter point is that those consoles have only sold a fraction of the expected sales for next gen.

 

I think 2022 is the very earliest you'd see GTA6. Until then they'll keep adding stuff to GTO so the sharkcard sales keep coming in. I would guess that once the sales drop off (because people are playing new/other stuff) and next gen console ownership has increased is when the new game will come. I guess there will be a snowball affect where sharkcards sales start to tail off, R* then spend less on new updates, when means sharkcard sales drop further and the whole thing will nosedive.

I doubt they were doing anything, its just the number of people playing GTO and RDR2 to get the freebies, you can see above that the numbers are the highest ever for PC.

2022 is very likely, IMO.

It took approximately two years from the first trailer of GTA V to the release of GTA V

So I'm saying late 2022 or early 2023 for GTA IV

probably can get pushed to late 2023 if delays or something like that occurs

Back in 2013 can you imagine that GTA 6 could actually be released in 2022 or 2023? Looks almost certain now.

 

Got another year or two of new content for GTA Online, at least.

If I had to wager a guess at it, I'd say shark card sales are high for the youtubers? And I wager that GTA copy sales are still chugging along thanks to people buying new versions because they get banned for being hackzors. I know PS4 basically lets you game share, so I see people all the time with tags like IiIiIiIiIiIiI aka "Barcodes"

Afaik, these are characters that are placeholders for letters not found in the English alphabet or something like that.

That would make sense, and I'm not saying you're wrong in all cases, but I used to play with a guy that tagged along with our crew work that we called "barcode" who literally made it like that as a secondary to his main account so he wouldn't feel bad for getting it banned for cheating. Mind you, he never used mods or anything like perma invisible, but he would use wall breaches and such, and iirc, the profile itself was one that was bought with all unlocks and billions. Haven't seen him online in well over a year though.

What I am going to say is not speculation, but a reality is what happens here. Many people have never had the opportunity to play GTA V, yes, that sounds strange, but it is totally real, even if the game is 7 years old.

I always see some people saying "look this is because of the kids", but when I talked to some people about it, usually people who buy SharkCards are due to the lack of time to play. (And some are lazy to the point of not playing the progression part)
I must mention that I see a lot of youtubers buying a lot of SharkCards every time there is a new DLC.

I'm just gonna say this. I swear I see like 80% who are done with the military nonsense and 20% who want it. Imo, we've passed the point of over-militarization. We don't need anymore. A Midnight Club DLC is what I want

Take into consideration that those numbers are only from the steam version of the PC version ( i myself have the 7 DVDs version)... 

To my knowledge, those numbers are the heighest since the launch of the PC version back in 2015...

Them teasing something big and extra special for 2020 is interesting, but they're notorious for using buzzwords like those to hype what we would consider an average, run of the mill DLC. Big to me would be either something long requested like Tuners/Midnight Club or finishing and building upon North Yankton and adding that with a bunch of missions and jobs. Definitely won't be holding my breath for anything I mentioned above.

 

Maybe they'll do a big super natural/Chiliad mystery DLC where they create a separate lobby where the map is changed drastically with Chiliad opening up and exposing a massive alien base. It being that cool seems unlikely, but I can see them dedicating an entire DLC to wrap up the "mystery" and all the associated EE we've gotten over the years. They might even go full you know what and add a pilotable Zancudo UFO with stealth and an insane arsenal of weapons that can only be used on Oppressors...lol.

Well the free cash has clearly worked perfectly. It's that time of the year again when Take2 need to show to investors how popular GTA is this quarter (6th February). What better way to get players logging in than by giving them 2 million dollars.
