I doubt the next update is the last, this freaking beast is too much of a money machine for it to just be let to die like that, and RDO is not the same, it has the potential for sure but it's just not there yet.

They have just saved it from completely dying.

I think decembers dlc will be the official last big update tbh, expect the same cross-over scenario as gta5

I have zero desire to play a stupid cowboy game and ride horses in it.  And no way I’m alone.

Forget RD and get GTA6 going.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last update. Next gen consoles are close, porting rdr2, making updates for it and getting gta6 ready will be top priority. The game is falling apart, I cant see them adding anything big to it. We're gonna have to go a long way before gta6, but thats what you get when you focus your teams on 3 games.

Back in 2017 everyone saying the doomsday was the last update for Gtao,  the casino update was huge successful for gtao. why would they are stop updating gta when the last update was so successful. rdr online is not huge as gtao

Seeing some activity on steamdb, nice to see R* is still planning a update for GTA Online.

I think this will be the last update for GTA Online and it probably won't be a big one, Rockstar has plans for RDR2 to be launched on PC & Stadia.

Not to mention their plans for Red Dead Online, it won't be long before RDR2 becomes the title that generate money for Rockstar.

It's extremely good news if we're talking about the last update for Online, there's no point to butcher the game more. The increasing amount of issues we're dealing with is not worth the extra content, especially considering how good was the base game. Instead of casino I would have chose to have more map details and animals from SP.

Next gen consoles are slated for next year I believe. Rdr2 was first announced years before it actually came out. I think gta6 will be a 2022 game if I'm honest.

I don't think that will happen. What is there to do? What is there to buy?

For example, aren't there over 600 different vehicles in GTA Online? Just how many different horses, wagons and stagecoaches could you possibly introduce to a western era set game?

They're gonna have to try and make money in a different way. Limited time clothes and missions hidden behind gold bars and stuff. They know they can't make as much money as they did with gta5, but they still have the means to make a bit.

They will have to come up with something. This is why the game doesn't appeal to me as an online experience though. Whilst the story was truly great, a great big open map of not much doesn't really do much for me with regards to a persistent online multiplayer game. The game's pre-determined era just can't support the amount of continual content required to maintain interest.

They should try something really ambitious like moving the game era on a decade every twelve months of real time, and develop the map and content accordingly lol

I'm just waiting for Rockstar to jump onto the Terminator bandwagon and add something related to the new Dark Fate movie. Either some Terminator spoofed clothing, a vehicle of some type, an Aaanold  mask or something.

If we get Arena War 2 before another heist, I swear I'll uninstall this game

Arena War turned me off harder than Smugglers Run did. Casino brought back my interest.... but it quickly died out, fun as the casino is.... you just lost interest after awhile. I want more PvE content, not boring ass Pay to Win PvP Arena War.

Yes, Arena War is pay to win. Good luck winning against a suped up car in the crap they give you regularly

Bring forth the Casino Heist!

I want a model 1887 with the cool shotgun flip and the damaged terminator t800 or a t1000 head, we already have the bike the bagger and the freightliner truck (hauler) from t2 it would be cool to make that scene.

I'd be shocked if 2019 was the end of GTA Online. We're still so far out from the next GTA, I doubt Rockstar would let their flagship franchise (and the most profitable instance of it) languish for more than a few months. Red Dead just doesn't have the widespread appeal that GTA has, even if it's following in the footsteps of V and Online. There just isn't as much to do with the setting and themes of Red Dead without really warping it compared to the already culturally broad-reaching character of GTA. Too, despite being more gameplay focused from the get-go than GTAO, RDO's rewards pale in comparison to the plethora of content in GTA and are inherently limited, again, by its setting.

I'd imagine that changes in the most recent updates are a sign of continued life for Online - fixing long-standing issues and acting on feedback from the community isn't something developers often do for a game they're planning to pull support from. No doubt the time of huge updates three times a year are behind us, but gosh, what a blind choice it would be for Rockstar to continue the poorly-received Arena War and call that the finale. To say it's not a lot of work to fix Online's issues would be silly, but for a multi-studio company that's made billions of dollars off of it, I'd bet they can afford to make the effort. I'd even say it's in their best interest. After all, smaller studios have kept larger games running for longer, and comparable developers like ZeniMax or Blizzard have multiple projects at any given time on top of perpetually developed online games.

As for what we'll really see here at year's end... Well, it'll likely feature some fan-favorite vehicles, maybe with a niche theme, as it has been in years past. I'd hope for something along the lines of a street racing/car customization focus, following so much demand and the relatively robust customization added with Arena War, but it's hopes and dreams rather than speculation. After DC&R and all of its loose ends, I'd vote there will be some tie-in content for it, but I doubt anything major. We are, after all, in an important time for Red Dead Online's development, and with the next generation of consoles on the horizon, who knows what the first few months 2020 will look like. Rockstar might want to have something to lure excited players back in, or maybe they'll hold off until summer for major content.

Totally agree with everything you say here, and to add on, if R* can still make money by dripping content into current gen console/PC games as they start selling the new one, they will.  Not everyone is going to be able to easily afford the lord-knows-what [$1K+] new consoles will cost.  There will be significant overlap for YEARS given the longevity of GTA5 and the fact that not a ton of people will have absurd amounts of dollars to spend on the new platforms at release [or maybe anytime soon].   Total sidebar, I could see companies forming to "lease" consoles to people the same way phone companies do on a multi-year monthly fee contract; that would actually be a smart move by Sony and Microsoft for the next gen.  I digress.

I think updates will continue well through 1-2 years after release of next gen, if not longer.  Why not keep milking the cow that's already paid for itself 10 times over?

Lets play what if....

If they end gta online and switch over to rdo its not going to end all that well,

1. rdo is very limited in what items they can add to that time line.

2. Playing cowboys and outlaws is limited it fan size.

3. Like all online games when they end many of the players go and try to find a online game thats kind of close to what was shut downed.

4. Again......cowboys kind of suck...

I like old western movies but I can't stand red dead, I find it boring as hell and if they do end gta online I'm done with R* games lol.

You can already see Rockstar is taking a different approach with Red Dead Online than GTA Online.

If we go back to 2014, all the updates we got in GTAO were small updates, they are nothing to the updates we got in the years that followed.

Rockstar realized they have to put in some effort to appeal to everyone expectations. The quality of the story missions in RDO is good enough that you can't compare it with GTA Online contact missions.

Also, I don't think the amount of vehicles is a valid point. Yes, there are like over 500 different vehicles in GTA Online but 80% of them aren't used.

Have you seen a player driving JB700 or Tailgater to go after the targets in Headhunter ? The same can be said about the different horses in Red Dead Online.

Would you rather have Heists or a update that only add 50 new "normal" vehicles that will only be useful in races ? Most if not all players will pick Heists because it's easier, better and less time consuming. The latter is like every stunt update we got, or even the current bonus we have, races aren't popular, not to mention there are some issues like how the payout decrease if someone decide to quit and the curb boosting ..etc

Red Dead Online has a lot of potential, the Frontier Pursuits update introduced roles which improved the game a little bit. Just recently, R* talked about the future of RDO, in one part they said "photography" is likely to be a future role. Taking pictures and getting paid for them in-game is a cool feature, that's to me is much better than getting a bunch of new vehicles in GTAO. Horses or the amount of vehicles is like a side objective, it's needed but not the main part that will improve the game.

Because it's full of bugs and outdated, on the release day of the casino update, the server experienced lots of issues due to the amount of players that logged in to try out the update. If I recall correctly, the developers had to release a update two days later to fix that.

So the same thing we experienced on GTAO launch day can happen again.

It may not be an actual end, but I believe it's the end of big updates.

im fine with it.

i would prefer some new CMs or DMs....vehicles are easy to add ( like in the beginning)

i like the way they are going right now. the new survivals ( "Überlebenskämpfe" in german which means translated back into english "struggle for survival") are fun and even a challenge for experienced players

I agree with this. It’s definitely not the end of updates but likely the end of bigger updates. We will see updates in 2020 and maybe even beyond for GTAO.

2 days, to fix this big old f*cked game? Honestly, that's significantly better than RDRO's 1 full year almost, lol. It's been near 3 weeks since the DLC, 2 patches for it too. Still broken.

I get ya, RDRO is new/future and GTA has had its day. I agree, I want a new R* story. (Not Bully though, sorry fans).

But if we're talking strictly numbers, GTA makes more, has more players, and takes less time or is quicker to fix. Unless they've got the next GTA that close to being ready to announce, this ain't going anywhere yet. Christmas as usual, IMHO, lol.

Investors want sure things, as much as R* may want to move on, it comes from above and if this sure thing is still smashing it, the suits want their cut and won't say no to low risk.

I think the March time DLC is ideal to end it because It's at the end of the financial year and makes quotas easier to manage, but I don't know how all that crap works enough too, lol. Best guess as It's known as the lesser DLC so wouldn't be a surprise to get less or lots of little bits with no overall theme too.

Oh no, it's there. Just instead of cars or horses, it's everything else. But money is so easy now with the collector. Just wander around and follow the vibrations, can't fail and you'll be richer than a whole mining town back then ever was on no time.

Seriously, $300 for a short handled shovel. $350 for a lasso MKII, when we got one free... You see where It's going... Lol. It's freaking rope!

We'll have the shovel MKII with an option to upgrade the handle and save our backs from aching soon! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

All considered, finely supported by the comedy that is top trumps for PvP, that game is well on it's way to stupidland. Sorry, broken stupidland. ;)

It is a cool fishing and hunting sim though. That'll do me. :)

I understand what you're trying to convey & I agree, the days of low effort updates are long gone, but I can't help but choose the 50 cars. Heists just don't have the longevity for the lone wolves.

I believe a decent compromise would be solo-able contact missions & 25-30 cars.

IIRC you mentioned something alongside the lines that Dispatch & Repo missions were the most played content when they first came out.

Don't jinx it lol.

I haven't played RDRO, but what you're describing sounds a lot like the early days of E&OC. Easy money & reasonably priced cars ... Things went downhill afterwards and prices shot up with F&F's X80 & the heart attack inducing prices of Cunning Stunts.

Speaking of CS, the $1.7M Lynx is 40% off this week.

I'd be quite happy for GTA 5 Online to die after the next update, to pave the way for GTA 6.

Plus, I imagine R* would like to turn their attention to other games.

You can say the same about RDO, they pushed an update a day or two after Frontier Pursuits got released, and the game is still filled with weird bugs and nonsense, framerate is horrible in Saint Denis and crowded areas in general, i found some floatng wagons last night near Armadillo and I was the only one in there, not to mention the strange disconnection issues, the consoles are already struggling to keep the game running well just as they are doing with GTAO, the same argument can be applied for both games, and it's even worse for RDO considering that it's a new game.
