GTA Casino: everything we know

The expected release date of GTA's casino, and what we'll get up to in the Diamond Casino & Resort.

GTA's casino finally arrives in Los Santos this summer, after being left an untouched part of the GTA 5 map for almost six years. Following a quiet six months for GTA Online updates, it promises to add a lot to the game: new shopping opportunities, 'first-class entertainment', and table games.

Below, we've collected everything we know about The Diamond Casino & Resort, which is the official name of GTA's casino. That includes the release window, what you'll be able to do in the casino, and its long history as an unused building in GTA 5. 

 

In announcing the opening of GTA's casino on June 20, Rockstar offered a release window of 'later this summer'. That means it'll likely arrive any time between now and the end of August, or at a push, in September.

"With something for everyone, The Diamond Casino & Resort will feature lavish amenities, exclusive shopping, first-class entertainment and state-of-the-art gaming facilities," said Rockstar's late June announcement of the casino's opening. Expect bars, lounges and table games, as well as some kind of concierge and valet service (don't expect tips from us). The casino will likely be a high-end social space where you can gamble—what's unclear right now is what you'll be able to play there, how you'll spend to participate, and how it'll reward players. 

Will you be able to spend real money on Shark Cards, then gamble that directly as in-game currency? That's the mindset that the word 'casino' puts you in. But in Rockstar's Red Dead Online, the in-game cash currency is used to play games like poker, whereas the premium currency, gold, is not.

It's possible the casino will have its own currency, then, to stop any ludicrous real-world spending. We've seen Rockstar dabble with this in the Arena War update from late 2018, which introduced Arena Points. Not much about winnings is really alluded to in the information Rockstar has released so far. Mention is made of "the exhilaration of spinning the Lucky Wheel for a chance at life-changing prizes," which suggests some kind of mechanism for payouts, and prizes that might be more than just money. There's not much more to draw from on that side of things, though—we'll have to wait and see. 

"First-class entertainment" makes us think of live bands, or comedians, like those seen in GTA 4. GTA's After Hours update added real-world DJs to the game, so it makes sense that Rockstar would push further in that direction with a casino setting, which tend to attract big entertainers in real life. Again, though, there are no more specifics to go on just yet. 

In terms of the 'table games' on offer, poker is a well-liked part of Red Dead Redemption 2 and its online component, and it seems likely it'll be a part of the Diamond Casino too. This resort is described as the "largest and most extravagant addition to the sprawling metropolis of Los Santos". So expect there to be more to it than just gambling. The proximity to Vinewood Race Track also suggests horse racing could be a part of it.

When the update launches, you'll almost certainly be able to find the casino on the map with an icon, but if you want to check out what it looks like right now, head to the point above. It's right next to Vinewood Racetrack, so you can't miss it. You'll see some construction work going on around it. 

GTA's casino has been in the game since 2013

GTA 5 is almost six years old, and the casino has been a lingering question mark since the game's initial 2013 launch on old-ass consoles. Previously, an 'opening soon' sign led a lot of people to believe it was teasing some eventual content update—GTA dataminer Tez2 apparently found references to a casino heist as far back as 2015, back when we still thought GTA 5 singleplayer DLC was a possibility. It was only in early June 2019 that players started to notice cosmetic changes to the casino, with an official announcement on June 20th that it's coming to GTA Online.

What if Rockstar removes the ability to withdraw cash from your bank account and you can then only use cash to gamble? Most of the cash earned from jobs goes to your cash-account while purchased money from sharkcards goes into your bank account. That way Rockstar can allow gambling, without introducing a new currency, while also keeping the ability for players to simply purchase money for the new toys that will come out. If they would introduce new vehicles that are only purchasable with the 'casino chips' or whatever currency, it would mean sharkcards can't be used be cause the conversion of gamble-able cash and non-gamble-able cash has to be one-way.

Well, a lot of activities in the game gives cash.  They have to rework the entire award system for this to happen. Good thinking though.

So I just signed in briefly during lunch and had to go through re-accepting the R* terms and conditions, maybe this means the dlc may be coming next week?

Me being me, I of course did not read them, and checked the accept box.

 

Edit: it was the usual that starts with having to re-adjust your brightness and then go reset all your settings, only getting the terms & conditions when loading into an online session.

Also, i just logged on on PS4, and i did not get this message. Maybe you re-calibrated GTA? Did you also had to change your brightness?

GTAV TOS is still outdated.

This happens to some people, the game ask them to re-accept TOS again, but there were no changes to terms and conditions.

Are you on pc? then it happens sometimes where the game will ask for gamma caliberation and will ask you to accept policy everytime you start the game.

Maybe try logging again and see if asks again? Let me knw

the system you propose will simply f*ck people like me that use the 2nd character as a savings account.

 

right now i have 180 million stashed in my second character, my main guy only have 1 million at hand, if what you propose came to be without warning, my main guy will be officially broke.

naa thats just an old bug in the game, my brother play on ps4 and for the past 2-3 years he have to accept the R* agreement everytime he enters gtao.

Yeah I'm on PS4, guess it was just a re-calibration, because it did ask me to change the brightness. Odd that it randomly happens though.

Tends to happen when you boot the game with L1 and R1 pressed. Just restart your game because you'll lose your settings.

R* is obviously not going to change anything about the cash/bank system but, “savings account”? What?? I’d really like to know what exactly is the reasoning behind stashing money on hand in a second character, because I’ve never heard of anything like this before lol

I don't really think Rockstar will do anything like that. It is not an issue (legally) for Rockstar to allow players to gamble with the money bought from Sharkcards. This is a video game, it does not have to follow the same regulations for real online gambling. In GTAO gambling, you may have the ability use *real* money to invest in Sharkcards, but once you convert real money into in-game currency, it cannot be converted back into real money after the fact. That is why online gambling regulations would not apply here. My idea is - Rockstar will allow you to use your regular GTA$ to purchase poker chips, like you would in any real life casino. I am not familiar with the laws and regulations of other countries, but if a foreign country does not allow any sort of online "gambling", this chip buying mechanism would prevent players from those countries from purchasing chips. Sure, people may not like the idea of being able to gamble with money bough from Sharkcards, but Rockstar is on a strong legal footing to allow it.
