If you can't finish the mission before the deadline, you can ask to extend it by a day or two.

Sorry M316, the deadline was already extended once and extending it a second time would be too much of an inconvenience to all the other people who participated and the people that are going to vote. Besides, I don't see how you can make your mission before it's midnight, there is always next week's MOTW to participate in. The deadline stays unchanged, and the voting will start in 10 minutes.

 

Note: You can make the mission and post it here and I will accept it, but the voting would have already started and you'll miss out on some votes.

I played all the missions (except for M316's which kept crashing a lot). There were a lot of entries this week which is nice, I hope MOTW stays at this pace for a while! Here are my thoughts on each mission:

To Live And Die In The Ocean is definitely one of the most creative mission ideas I've ever seen since I discovered DYOM. Pirates and naval battles are things I would have never expected to see in this tool, especially for a MOTW entry. Unfortunately, despite the good idea, the execution falls flat. There is a lot of room for decorating the environment to add more to the atmosphere. For example, by setting the weather to something windy the waves will become higher and more dangerous to make it more realistic and also add suspense. The ships can be decorated with objects to add more detail to the blocky simple ship models of GTA San Andreas. Not to mention using effects like fire to show the damage the ships are receiving, and helicopter smoke to simulate the winds and smoke obstructing the aim of the player.

 

The gameplay is also pretty simple, you shoot the pirates opposite to you with an AK47 (weird, but understandable considering it's GTA SA after all) then jump down and wobble around the ocean for a while, however there is room for improvement here too. The cannons part could be elaborated on more, you can -for example- have the player control these cannons by giving him a single RPG missile. The swimming part is weird and confusing which brings me to my third point.

 

The "script" of the mission is very silly and vague. The driving point of the entire mission is "the gold" which we never even get to see. The two pirates talk like children fighting over the last cookie, and then the hilarious final scene with the pirate screaming obscenities at water because both of the ships blew up *(for some reason..? I don't think it's mentioned in the mission..)*

 

Overall, the mission was very innovative which kinda saves it from harsh judgment, but it still could be much more than what it is and for that it gets 7/10.

The Royals: Flashback is a typical shooting mission with a typical and expected twist ending. It was a bit fun, but brought nothing new to the table whatsoever. The story mentions stuff but pretends you already know them in the first place, which would be acceptable if this mission had an established universe.. too bad it doesn't. How are we supposed to know who The Royals are, and what the deal with the package is, and who the hell are the Elite Forces? Are they the police? Are they affiliated with the person who betrays The Royals? Or are they some rival faction we don't see in the mission?

 

The mission is not bad per se, but then again it is very hard to screw up a mission as generic as it is, and it definitely isn't exceptionally good either.There is nothing that sets it apart from the countless action missions that came before it that do most things better than it does.

 

Unfortunate, it seems that dealer WAS try hard homie after all. 5.5/10

Flash! I don't have much to say about this one other than it is very absurdly hilarious. There is so much stuff that is crammed into the mission for no reason what so ever. There is a romantic subplot that's supposed to relate us to the protagonist and make his death hit harder but the dialogue is so unintentionally funny that it's almost like a joke.

 

First things first, the GAMEPLAY! The escape part was a good change of pace from all the shooting of the other missions but you could put more text in the objectives to explain where we need to go instead of "..". The gangsters also catched up to me many times because while they're taking shortcuts, the protagonist has to jump over fences for no reason and backtrack through places he already went before. The second part is also very short. There are only 3 enemies to shoot and it is not very difficult.

 

Now unto the thing that makes this mission the golden mess that is, and that is the script. The dialogue is full of spelling and grammar mistakes which is forgivable to be honest because it served the mission in unexpected ways. However, there are parts of the story that are confusing. It is never explained what the Ballas were doing with the man before the photo was taken. Bill was shown beating a Ballas member which is very weird considering they are armed and he isn't. (except for a camera.. I guess you can hit em' pretty hard with it?) The police of course sent their best men: Men In Black. J and K take a break from looking for aliens and go out on a hunt for Ballas supposedly knowing where the house is even though they were never told by Bill. They he (Why did only one go in?) busts in killing ballas and arriving at just the right time and just the right place to find Jazzy on his dying breath telling him his last words. It then cuts to his wife, and then his friend ironically commiting seppuku despite Jazzy yelling at him from the afterlife not to.

 

The mission was average. It failed at its intent on being serious but it was still funny which greatly improves it giving it a 5/10

A Way Out is in essence an adaptation of classic slasher movies into DYOM. The victims are obviously teenagers/young adults exploring a haunted/abandoned mansion to party and... exercise in the gym room..?

 

The gameplay was lacking and the mission was not scary enough. The place does not have a horror atmosphere at all. It is well-lit and the meat bags are honestly more appetizing than scary.. and they're definitely not appetizing. The gun does not have enough bullets to kill the clown, so I also had to melee him too which I think is intended. I like the use of moving objects all over the mission, but the wheelchair's animation could be made smoother because it clips through the floor.

 

Ted's death was creative but confusing. Did he die because something fell on him and crushed him? Or was it just a chainsaw at a very close angle? I really don't see it well. The hallucination didn't really fit there. This is the first time we see the characters, so we don't get to see a close friendship between them so I don't see why he is to blame for their deaths.

 

A Way Out is bad for a horror mission, but it is an average mission in general. The epilogue was pointless and frankly didn't make any sense. 4/10

Las Venturas: After Dark starts off at a high note but in my opinion ends in a disastrous way. The first scene is very suspenseful and sets us up for an epic clash between the mafia, but then it cuts out to this extremely slow and boring part (note: there is a bug where you are supposed to be inside the vehicle with the other two while they're talking, but I was kicked out of the car and had to go to the checkpoint by myself. Of course, I was at the airport and there were no cars so I just used the Jetpack cheat). The characters have no personality whatsoever and the exposition is too dragged out and on the nose which ultimately makes for an ugly contrast between this part and the previous one.

 

Unfortunately it doesn't get any better, the shootout is short and simple. The enemies spawn very far away and don't even attack the player so it's pretty much Whack-a-mole until they're dead. But then.. it just ends.. All of the hyping and building up that led to the final conclusion: then there isn't even one. The story is left unresolved for no reason other than to make one more mission about it. The mission literally can not stand on its own, because the story is desperately begging for a sequel.

 

Because of that reason, Las Venturas: After Dark should have never been a single mission, but rather a small missionpack and for that it gets 4/10

Sadly.. I can't describe Death Run Challenge with words.. that's because I couldn't play it. The mission crashed during all 6 of my attempts at finishing it. Even if it didn't crash during the first few objectives, the farthest I could get was picking up the gun as Ryder, then it just breaks the game no matter what I try to do.

 

By looking at the mission's blueprint on the website, it is very clear why this is happening. On the 0th objective, 13 objects are spawned. On the 6th, 21 actors and 33 objects are spawned. IN ONE OBJECTIVE. This is too much for most PC's to handle. And those two are not the only cases, you can go to the mission's entry on the DYOM website and see for yourself (note: you have to be logged on to see the blueprint). The mission was rushed out too much and needed more testing before participating in MOTW with it.

 

I can't judge this mission because I couldn't finish it.

 

As I said before, I am impressed by the amount of participants this week. But as always, there is always one single winner. My vote goes to To Live And Die In The Ocean by XzeuX because of the new things it introduced. It is still far from perfect though, as for all the other missions. What I said above is simply constructive criticism and I hope everyone interprets it that way. Good luck to everybody!
