GTA SA is amazing but the controls sucks

I played this game again recently and I hate the controls in GTA SA, i hate the lowrider mission, dancing mission, zero RC missions, uhh don't get me wrong this is my favourite GTA game but the controls make me hate it a little bit.. the gameplay is just incredible but sadly the controls are not.., the game would have been perfect if it had amazing controls like GTA V..

I just replayed it recently as well. Still an awsome game, and I don't have much problem with the controls either. The only issue I had affter so many years is the combat system. It just improved too much in the newer games, and it's not so easy to go back from that.

Compared to gta 3 and vc they are a HUGE step up (being able to manually move your camera, moving while crouched, walking on PC, strafing with 2 handed weapons, free aiming, the shooting and melee system, etc)

Yup the shooting and aiming is really difficult compare to GTA IV and GTA V shooting and aiming..

If you have these games on PC then you can try GInput and set the preset to the GTA IV/Modern style ones which brings them much closer in line with modern games (using triggers to shoot, accelerate vehicles, etc).

I actually hate the Rage GTAs controls. Every bloody button on my keyboard is used! I don't want to remember which button is to take out phone, and which one is to crouch; which one to take cover, and which one to roll. This was probably the one thing I encountered early in both games and which seems like an overwhelming and excessively comlicated approach to gaming. You can't just enjoy the game, you have to stop and think which button to press - extremely useful if you're in a fight! No wonder that I don't bother with all that crap and simply shoot my way through.

If you just open the settings page it is page upon page of the controls; ain't noone got time to remember them all.

Now, those who will know me will be surprised to hear that I too think that SA controls are pretty dumb, however, once you re-assigned them to match GTA 3 controls it becomes a pleasure to play. Once you have Num8 for lift up and Num2 for dive it makes it so much more intuitive. The on-screen text always tells you what to press (e.g. "Press Tab to answer the phone") and stays long enough for you to actually read it. Something that the new games lack.

So yeah, GTA 3 had the best controls, but VC and SA at least offered enough flexibility to match it and make the whole gaming experience so much more fun.

You’re surprised a sixth-gen game from 2004 has inferior controls to a game that was released nearly a decade later?

Cmon I don't hate GTA sa, I love GTA SA because of amazing cheats, awesome missions, jetpack, three major cities, more weapons, player customization, car customization, burglary, and a lot more to offer, this is my favourite GTA game with V being second and third Vice City, I switched to GTA SA when i'm bored with V but when I get bored with San Andreas, I switched to V again..

San Andreas probably has the best control scheme of the 3D Era. I'm currently playing through GTA 3 on Xbox and it's controls do feel a bit clunky than I remember, compared to SA where it's very smooth.

Controls in SA were never a problem for me. But on PC, it gets confusing when it's space to run and shift to jump. I always switch it the other way around whenever it's set to default.

At least they are responsive and don't take ages to "happen" like the "new" HD era.

Which platform? If it's PC, then I agree. Don't have a numpad? You're f••ked. Flying was insane because of the pathetic control scheme. Whoever decided that space is for sprinting needs to be shot.

PLEASE! For the love of all things great in life, do NOT reduce the amount of buttons to do stuff. Lioshenka we are not living in 1994. The fact that every button imput does something different is a god send to gaming. (ex. in GTA IV press to quickly exit a car hold it to turn it off and exit in. GTA V press to quickly put away your weapon or equip your weapon and hold to choose your weapon) In GTA SA there were two shoot buttons for bloody sakes!

Personally I never found the controls too awkward in SA, on PS2, the only stupid parts are the dancing and lowrider bouncing missions.

I can only say this about rdr 2 and GTA IV and to an extent RDR 1 but overall never had a problem with it. Muscle memory auto adjust I guess? I don't think about it AT ALL!

The lowrider challenge isn't hard and excepting that heap of rubbish Supply lines sh*t I'm OK with Zero's missions. I hate the dancing mini-game.

No the problem is that if I press A it suddenly goes to left very fast. And it was so hard to control it.

you quoted the same thing again? umm lol

ot: controls are the last thing i’d call bad about san andreas, it’s smoother than most new games so i don’t see how that’s a problem. the game obviously has the best controls in the series.

Dancing and hopping are not as hard as ppl say. Make it easy by using a Ps2 controller with a cheap ebay USB 2.0 adapter and bob your head to the music. I easily found a make dancing easy script unintentionally. Step your game up. lol

Now don't get me wrong here but whoever said that space is for sprint needs to be dead, i don't agree with you. I actually like space for sprinting, it's more flexible and shift for sprint is good enough.

The controls, you mean the sensitivity of the controls or the controls itself?

The lowrider missions are good enough. Numpad isn't needed, i usually just change the controller into the first letter of what it does. For example, if it's left then i use 'L'. If it's taken, i'd change it to the last. Simple as that. It might take a while to get used to but it's worth it.

Zero's missions are fun for me, idk why. I like Supply Lines... the most. The control is a little too sensitive as you can just easily crash into trees or something but other than that, it's a pretty fun mission.

And yeah, it's an old game. It has simple controls and stuff not like GTA IV or V which has a sheet-ton of controls and stuff. I personally like this simple one as it's easier to remember what to press.
