Do ya'll think Ryder should'a been killed off?

Honestly, as a big GTA San Andreas fan, ive always had Ryder as my favorite character.

In depth, you can see that Ryder always had a close relationship with CJ, (with evidence from the game) they've been friends since they were kids.
This is more of a question about rockstar, why would they kill off such a great character in the game that had a strong relationship with the GSF?

I'm not sure, ya'll please leave your opinions below.¬†ūü•ī

I wish Ryder wasn't regulated to a villain like Smoke was. It seems plausible enough I guess but there was definitely more foreshadowing implying Smoke was going to be a longtime villain, not Ryder.

I wish Ryder stayed and helped CJ as an ally because he and CJ had the most complex relationship throughout the game which I wish was explored more. Had they kept him a villain, I would have liked to see more interactions between him and CJ in the SF chapter.

It was all Smoke. In my mind the whole GTA:SA Story would be better with Ryder at CJ's side.

Honestly, there are three better ways how R* should've handled Ryder's characters:

1. Have him killed as a loyal Grove Street member during the Green Sabre mission. If you ask me, while he and CJ weren't as close, they had a pretty interesting relationship, and it would've made much more sense for CJ to grieve over the loss of his childhood friend thanks to the Ballas ambushing the Grove Street Family gang member. Sweet survives while Ryder gets killed. It would've been much more profound.

2. Keep him on CJ's side and have the two stuck in the Badlands for a while. Then later on, have Ryder continue working for his homie LB while CJ and Cesar take care of the garage in San Fierro. Then after blowing up the factory, the four would work together to build an empire for the carshow room.

3. Have Ryder put in rehab due to the water f*cking him up and by the time Toreno gives CJ a call to meet someone in rehab once he gets to Las Venturas, he surprisingly sees that it's Ryder, who works alongside CJ in Las Venturas in a similar fashion as CJ and Cesar in San Fierro.

Bonus: Not have Ryder included in the game at all. I mean if R* were really gonna improvise his betrayal without any motivation or even a much more profound death scene and have him forgotten about by everyone else, even Sweet (who doesn't even seem to question Ryder's whereabouts), then there really was no point to even have him a character in the game. Because if you ask me, I would much rather have him not be included in the game at all than to have him be completely forgotten about by everyone, even the leader of his former gang, after his imminent betrayal and death.

It's just such a shame that such a character had a lot of wasted potential. Even Pulaski had a much better death scene than Ryder. Hell even OG Loc of all f*cking characters had a more important character motivation.

Spoiler

PS, waiting for your dogmatic ass reply to me or anyone else, lil weasel! Because that's just what you do whenever you disagree with someone else's opinions.

There are already many topics about Ryder's place in the scenario.

Meh I didn't really like him, and he seemed to whine to CJ and bitch about the driving behind his back a lot too. Even Smoke seemed to be nicer to CJ in the first chapter.

If Ryder remained alive he'd have no use anyway, so yes, his death was justified. What would you use him for if he was kept alive in terms of additional missions?

I wonder if the rumors that they had problems with his voice actor is true. Because the unimpressive way he dies and only re-use lines from earlier in the game during his final appearance kind of makes you think that.

Well for one thing, he could work alongside CJ in San Fierro after the two are in exile in the Badlands and maybe help catch the guys delivering the yay to Smoke. Here's the fanfic I made to fix this.

I also think Badlands wanted you out of your comfort experience and fresh start from the Ghetto stuff. It's like a twist in terms of you as a player and story-wise and provides a contrast to keep the game feeling fresh.

Ryder would be meaningless in that pursuit because with Cesar you're taking down the whole syndicate including their factory already. Even if he had a mission or a few in Badlands that'd give him no missions at all after Badlands which wouldn't make much sense.

I definitely think Ryder's plotline could've been better to drop more hints at him being someone who betrayed CJ. Maybe after getting the weapon shipments, half somehow goes "missing" story-wise, even if that's just addressed through cutscenes with excuses like faults in the weapons or his homie/homies LB maybe having something to do with it, then you go kill him and he says very conflicting stuff. Then when he's in SF, he drives by the garage during a cutscene and then some other cars come by to attack you 1 minute later. I think stuff like that would've gone a long way in justifying his death and signifying his betrayal.

It would actually be much better if he was killed as a loyal member of the GSF, right around the mission Green Sabre when Cesar shows CJ Smoke's betrayal. That way, his death would be much more profound and acknowledged since him being a traitor made no sense at all.

Thats another perfectly viable alternative sure.

If anything, Ryder should've been scrapped out of the game altogether. He has always been a jerk towards CJ and never has anything nice to say. The game would've been so much better if he wasn't in the game at all. He ruined every cutscene he appeared in. Keep every character in the game, but take Ryder out completely.

Eh, a lot of the sh*t he told CJ was true after all, and the way he behaved towards him was no different from how Sonic and Knuckles or Brian & Stewie acted towards each other. Besides, Sweet was the one who whined and bitch about CJ far more. Most of what Ryder said towards CJ was more of constructive criticism if anything, and let's be honest here. CJ needs a little criticism once in a while since he's the one who bitch and whine far more about dumb sh*t (ex: A rocket launcher in the middle of the riot). What Ryder did to CJ is nowhere near worse than someone threatening to castrate CJ for minor offenses or talking sh*t about his deceased mother.

Yeah I think his death fitted the story well. In most of these scripts, the dim-witted fool always meets a tragic end. SA did it well.

If they were going to do that, then at least have him die a staunch member of the GSF and execute it well and make it much more profound. His death should've happened in The Green Sabre mission when he gets gunned down during the ambush while Sweet would be one of the only survivers. That way, his motivation would feel a whole lot less desultory and he would go out on a bittersweet note. Plus actually acknowledged.
