I submitted a suggestion to Rockstar about two weeks ago regarding this topic.  I suggested that when a player has a significant streak in place (I would define significant as a streak greater than 10 or so days) and something happens that causes that player to have to break the streak, give the player the option at his/her next login to RDO to pay a "streak continuation" penalty if they so desire to continue the streak from where it was when the streak was broken.  The player could have the option to pony up the penalty cost and continue the streak or could simply let it go back to zero and pay no penalty.  It at least gives the player an option when real life events prevent you from playing every day.  I had a 14 day streak going and had work related travel for a few days.  It killed the streak and I had to start a new one.  The cost to continue the streak could be gold or RDO$$ or something like that.  That at least wouldn't punish players for situations like you explained in your comment.  It would give you an alternative to starting over to day one again.

Cumulative dailies would be another good solution, IMO. I wish they would do that with GTA Online's daily objectives. Miss a day? Two days? A week? No problem; pick up where you left off. You just don't get the reward until you reach the total amount of required days.

 

I rarely bother with anything that requires another player's help; it's just not worth it--takes way too much time and that effort is often wasted in matchmaking attempts.
