Why do you hate GTA 4?

I don't hate GTA 4. I think is a great game but compared to VC, SA and even V it does not have much replay value for me after the story and many of the missions felt too repetitive. Another problem I have is the map size, It's entirely way too small for a setting that's suppose to represent NYC and parts of NJ, it shouldn't have to take me over 3 minutes to go from Broker to Alderney.

I don't see what's wrong with the map size really. It isn't that much smaller than the map in San Andreas which has multiple cities, countryside and desert. I think map size is one of those things about the industry that is a tad overrated to be honest and doesn't make a map great/memorable on its own. I'd like to think when R* were developing GTA IV their main focus was on more important things like environmental details and getting it more to represent NYC than what they had tried previously.

 

I'd consider the map to be in the "Goldy Locks" zone where it's not too big and a nuisance to navigate, but not small enough where it doesn't feel realistic or plausible to feel like a lived in city. However it's what you make of it I guess and I respect your view.

I see what you mean. I still would rather have the city be more bigger but that's just my own personal opinion. Other than that they did a fantastic job with making the city feel lifelike.

If there is one thing though I do kinda dislike about the map is most of Alderney feels useless and underdeveloped compared to Liberty City itself. There always seems to be that one "area" in every GTA that feels that way and I'm not sure why.

Alderney wasn't as good as Liberty City but I think at least TLAD put it into good use.

 

I only hate GTA IV because it makes other GTAs look bad in comparison in too many ways.

Alderney feels even more useless in TBoGT unless you like to do Base Jumps and Drug Wars, since only 2 storyline missions take place there. But what really bothers me is how cop cars in Alderney are just from the LCPD, instead of their own

I gained more appreciation for Alderney because of TLAD. It still could've been done better but Alderney City is really cool (so nicely "lived in" and dingy) and I enjoy the suburban and beach/bit of countryside areas in the north. And the industrial estate is pretty decent, nice and big and with the cool flaming towers. Good selection of peds too (bikers, Koreans, Italians, Portuguese and all the rest). Just needed more interiors and activities and maybe a better design/implementation of the high up "skyway" road.
