Theory on how Tommy joined the Forellis

So we know what happened to Tommy prior to the events of the Vice City storyline. Problem is, however, we have no idea why he joined the Forellis in the first place. He wanted to follow in his father's footsteps to work as a printer and instead lived a different life with the Forellis. Also, from what we heard from Tommy's conversation with Earnest in the game, Tommy's father is most likely dead during the events of VC. So here's my theory on why Tommy joined the Forellis instead of following his father's footsteps:

Tommy seemed to be real close to his father and enjoyed working with him at the Print Shop. Then, as he turned around 18, his father was killed by a rivalry gang, most likely whatever gang the Forellis were against, which hit Tommy real deep and angered him. Sonny, the leader of the Forelli family, overhears this and decides to help Tommy find the guys who killed his father. By the time Tommy finds the culprits, he becomes good friends with Sonny and has allied with the Forellis for some time until 1971.

That's my theory on how Tommy joined the Forelli family. What are your thoughts?

Maybe he was just poor and joining the mob was a good way of not being poor anymore? As it often happens in RL.

While all we can do is hypothesize on why he joined the Forelli Family I'd say it's more likely he was a young kid running errands for the mob akin to Tommy's voice actor Ray Liotta in the movie Goodfellas.

It would be a good immersion-friendly explanation especially if we assume the one who murdered Tommy's father was his main target during the Harwood massacre.

The official strategy guide implies he and Sonny were childhood friends so I'd assume Sonny was like "Hey Tommy I'm making a gang you wanna join" and Tommy's like "k" or something

Tommy's twin brother Mikey Vercetti was killed in a Sindacco driveby so he joined the Forelli's to take revenge.
