I made a mistake of eating chips while using laptop

What are the chances of me ever getting the keyboard clean again? Would compressed air help? Having used  a few cans in the past they had this watery stuff coming out, Iäm afraid it might f*ck something up. Wet cloth definitely isn't safe? Or shall I try it? I would like to get rid of the grease and smell- These were some chili taste chips too. What shall I do?

Wash it with detergent and a clean sponge and rinse it with water. Should at least look as good as new.

Bang it repeatedly against the wall until all the chips come out of it.

Maybe a light brushing with a toothbrush might help, for the smell I don't know.

For in between buttons use microfiber eyelashes extention applicators. If you want to remove grease or other accumulated body fluids just dip the tip in some isopropyl alcohol/rubbing alcohol, hold the laptop upside down and use a can of compressed air on it afterwards. Keep the can straight. That's no water that comes out of it, that's gas in liquid form which will vaporize in seconds and it's really cold. This will likely come out as a liquid if you don't keep the can straight up. Buy/Use a screen cleaner for your screen/keyboard. I highly suggest wiping it with a microfiber towel/cloth.

It will smell better afterwards as there will be less bacteria.

If you want to make it smell really good I suggest squirting some of your favourite perfume on a piece of paper, put it on your keyboard, close it for the night and the next time you open it, it will smell great for quite a while if you use a great perfume, or like cheap deodorant if that's all you got. Still better then a mix of chili/semen/feces/skin grease.

You could....very lightly wipe the keys with disinfectant wipes.

I know I f*cked up, But where can I get isopropyl alcohol? Do they sell it at grocery stores or drug store? Can I get it from electronics shops?

You could check paint stores as its in most decreasers, pharmacy, stuff where they sell beauty stuff. Otherwise its also in brake cleaner, chain cleaner and carb cleaner. Don't spray it directly on your keyboard though, it could solve the white letters writen on your keyboard.

Extract buttons and take out chips one by one.

Haven’t seen a thread like this since the early 2000’s, but thanks for the laugh.

Tbh I think you had the right idea with compressed air.  I wouldn’t want to put brake cleaner or carb cleaner anywhere near my computer.

Compressed air shouldn’t have “watery stuff” coming out.. I suppose it could be propellant that might have settled from sitting for a long time, but maybe try another brand of compressed air?

i was trying to think of some sort of witty sarcastic response to this thread but im mostly perplexed that even thinking of a rudimentary method to clean a keyboard is somehow eluding you

Save the bits until later. Can't beat crusty keyboard crisps. Yes they are crisps, not chips.

So got it clean and stink free? Or did you end up eating laptop while using chips?

Thing about using compressed air is that you don't want so further blast more particles in to your keyboard. I would try shake off anything I could first. Shake it upside down so the crumbs fall out. Then I might even run a vacuum cleaner over it to get some more. Obviously be careful of the suction power. You don't want to rip the keys out. Only after that, would I use compressed air.

After the most of the crumbs and bits are gone, I would use alcohol wipes. Something like these will work.

I've actually put my laptop keyboard into the dish washer before.  Worked brilliantly in fairness.

Is it a laptop/USB/wireless keyboard though?

For future snackings, learn how to use chopsticks, it should be less greasy and you make your snack last longer since you cant shove a handful into your mouth at a time.(Ive only done this with popcorn but should work with any snack)
