What are your toughts about that gtaIII did it and after that, every Gta game downgraded it, especially with graphics of gtaV, seeing gore only in cutscenes looks super stupid, I'm not a  violent motherf*cker here, all i'm saying is what exactly is rockstar trying to do? Not surprised about gore in RDR2, cuz it had already been in their second Red Dead game and it was awesome already. From what i understand here, i'm sure rockstar will keep this sh*t in GtaVI as well, what are your toughts about this?

Having dismemberment by default without having to use cheats was my favorite thing about the PC version.

Vice City and San Andreas used some body skeleton system instead of GTA III style body part chunks so dismemberment was less easy to accomplish. I'll give GTA IV a pass since it was the first major Rage engine game, but GTA V should have had more going on for it than bullet holes, especially after RDR and Max Payne 3. I hope GTA 6 is an improvement in this aspect.

It's disappointing because GTA 3's maiming is very enjoyable and Rockstar could at least give the possibility to explode the corpses like in Half-Life.

Yeah, you can dismember limbs GTA III....crazy. It's only on the PC version, however, you can enable a cheat on the console versions to have the gore like that.

Dismembering limbs is not a bad idea for the franchise, but if it'll ever return, it should be exclusive to explosives, as well as weapons like the chainsaw, katana, and maybe knife.

Idk because even though the older games technically have more gore they're so cartoony looking that it isn't like seeing real humans bleeding/mutilated. Whereas in later games there's technically less, but what there is looks more realistic so it seems "worse" for what it is. I'm too desensitized for there to be much effect now but I remember the first time I saw people being shot/injured in GTA IV back when it came out it was honestly quite shocking and disturbing because it felt like real people were being hurt, instead of cartoony ones in earlier games where a leg could be blown off or ten people's heads could come off and it had no real impact.

Like, if they had arms/legs/heads coming off in HD GTA the game would have a whole other vibe because it would be MUCH more graphic and gory than anything previously seen in GTA. So I get toning it down as graphics become more realistic. I wouldn't mind more but I can see how too much could be too distracting or change the vibe of the game too drastically. I'd say a bit more would be good but not too much.

Why? Dismembering is very funny using the M4 or the sniper rifle and so much the worse for realism.

Nah if it comes back I want it to be available for high powers carbine rifles too. And I want the M16 back too.

I want dismemberment only for shotguns in terms of bullet guns.

HOW'S ANNIE?

They tried their hand with it at some point in developing GTA V. There's even leftovers in the files.

As what @perennial said, there are particular reasons why it hasn't been in past games. Maybe they weren't satisfied with their work on V, or the classic "console limitations" excuse.

Dismembering with a sniper kind of ruins the feel of a sniper for me personally. I don't really want a sniper to dissipate a leg from existence even if it is more realistic.

Personally, I think GTA IV had the best gore. Even though it lacked dismemberment, killing someone actually had impact as opposed to the cheesy 3D Era, with bloody impact depending on where you shot someone (though not as complex as in future R* titles) as well as realistic blood spray and falling physics. They took a massive step backwards to this with GTA V. Though they did improve the blood spray somewhat in the enhanced version, the sh*t physics were a whole different story.

Now RDR2 on the other hand, easily the best gore system in a R* game to date (even surpassing Max Payne 3 imo). If the next GTA uses a system like this then it'll be a major win.

True! The realistic physics and reactions in IV make it come across as rather violent at times. Blood spray from the neck, blood splash on the camera, wounds showing up where they should, realistic movement of the ped's body depending on where it's hit, peds putting their hands on their wounds, limping on injured legs, and also the ability to incapacitate without killing so there's often a lot of injured people laying down moaning, pleading or stumbling away, and just the fact it takes more shots/violence to kill a ped, it all adds up. With the reduced physics quality in V you get predictable being shot/falling/dying animations and random blood showing up on the body. They probably have about the same amount of blood shown but the other stuff lacking means it doesn't seem as gory or violent.

Well RDR2 has it

the only excuse they have for not adding it to VI is its too edgy, but then again its not 2005 anymore

Cartoonish 3DU games were perfect for proper exaggeration, where gore, as a sort of an effect perfectly fits it. It simply cannot be be that gruesome no matter how much exaggeration there is, so it won't change the general GTA feel to it.

Realism on the other hand, is somewhat different, because gore in it completely drives away that general feeling GTA supposedly has to go along with, since even the slightest amount of it - gore - would turn it into a 'Manhunt' kind of game.

It is much harder to introduce a proper exaggeration in something even loosely based on realism, because of the more strict set of rules realism has to follow.

All depends on wether they want triggered people going crazy as usual.

Personally I'd like to have gore as an option. I'd have it on but triggered folks can turn it off.

It was funny on PS2 III to blow people up with that cheat activated!  If I remember it was the only cheat not to have the message appear.

To me the "gore" in the 3D era was more comical than anything. Like watching an episode of South Park and it has nothing on the gore seen in Manhunt just 2 years later. Whilst we can't blow off limbs, decapitate peds etc in the HD era the finer details make it feel more gruesome IMO.

Like as said above the way peds react to being shot or the way blood splatters more realistically. RDR2 however took gore to new heights. The first time I shot someone in the face with a shotgun and their head exploded it actually left me a bit speechless because I didn't expect it.
