Countryside too small and empty.

Personally love GTAV's rendition of Southern California, especially if we consider that Los Angeles is my dream city. Really feels like I'm a tourist 😁

Sometimes it's funny to get lost in a mountain, feels like playing Death Stranding with the character falling and sh*t 😂

Shaping the map like Homer Simpson's f*cking head was a design flaw of the highest caliber. Driving down the highway feels like you're on some Twilight Zone type sh*t the way it loops right back to Los Santos. Everywhere you look you can't get away from the city. You never feel like you're in a forest or desert cause every road leads straight back to it. Like you're in some kind of hellish prison. It's incredibly sad that their 2004 rendition of San Andreas, powered by a couple megabytes of ram had a grander sense of scale.

To be fair that's only because of the draw distance. I've seen a mod that removes the draw distance entirely and it makes the map look really small. Like if you stand at the edge of the countryside you can clearly see San Fierro and Las Venturas from both sides, but as I said this was just clever trickery to get around the hardware limitations of the time to make it feel way bigger than it really is

San Andreas in Grand Theft Auto V... every road leads to Los Santos, eventually.

Also, when it comes to Los Santos... Who needs so many highways while there are no suburbs, like.. none at all?

Crazy. Whenever I think of Los Angeles, I see suburbs, and there are none in Los Santos. Whenever I think of New York City, I see townhouses, skyscrapers... and there are plenty of these in Liberty City.

The draw distance thing is a major factor but I don't think it's just that. It's also the way the roads are designed and the entire layout. It is "trickery" but it's effective in making a not-that-huge map seem huge, whereas in V it almost seems like they tried to make a huge map seem small. Looking at SA from a high point with draw distance removed and looking at V from a high point (eg from the top of Vinewood Hills where you can basically see the entire map) as it is they both look relatively small/close together, but I still think SA would feel bigger and more spread out just playing the game and travelling around regularly.

Ah, I've just found my old Grand Theft Auto V map redesign.

Wouldn't it be better?

It's actually modelled after this Alfred Hitchcock silhouette:

I believe the map needed to be bigger and to include another city, say Las Venturas, so that the highways, countryside and wilderness would feel more natural when they act as a buffer that connects between two major urban areas. The layout also needed a major modification in that it should be rotated 90 degrees clockwise. In this case, Los Santos will be west of the map and then there will be roads extending out of the city for the remaining directions. To the east of Los Santos, with plenty of natural buffer zones in-between,  Venturas would be sitting in the middle of a desert.

I am guessing that the map would want to try be all things to all players.

For those who want long-distance and immersive journeys, whether that's across land or sky or maybe ocean, this would be open to do.

And for those who want to get from one point to another to just get on with a mission or to find something specific, well it's reasonable to expect that too.  🤷‍♀️

the problem is, whatever you expected from the map. it comes as the second important thing after gta online. so i believe people can clearly see what they want in gta online right?(if they don’t get blown up by opressors)

I'm still amazed that this small map is enough for all this madness that happens in Grand Theft Auto: Online.
