Meh, I assume the previews are fairly accurate. It does seem like a very controlled bit of the game they're being given access too, though. I'll admit it does seem really unlikely that the "NPC" (are we calling them "APCs" for this game now?) simulation is as advanced as it seems.

 

I'm thinking maybe those detailed simulations with the guy mourning his wife and then eventually moving on, those "scheduled" moments in their routine only happen if you add that character to your "watch list" or whatever it's called.

 

Like, not every guy you knock out is going to end up in the hospital, just the ones you choose to track or recruit live more detailed lives than the average NPC. Seems much more feasible that way.

They're steaming it. Some of the voice stuff looks kinda rough. London looks beautiful dissapointed that the clothing stores don't have interiors hope they add some in before release.

I mean it sounds great if true, but i doubt it's going that deep in.

 

More likely if you follow a random NPC, he'll just end up walking in a circle until the next thing in his scripted schedule begins or something like that. And maybe you'll eventually meet with a randomly generated NPC that looks just like your currently playable person too, or sounds like him.

It's true, other reviewers stated this aswell, you will be even able to customize each character when it comes to clothing which is pretty insane when we take into account of how many possible character types there may be out there.

From what I heard NPC's aren't randomly generated I don't think? I heard that it's 100% curated, no idea what that means if you slaughter everyone in the city though.

Likely respawning alot, I imagine there's a system that makes sure there aren't two of the same face-type. It's kinda impossible to not encounter the same face. If there were like 2 million curated faces, the game would be extremely bloated.

Looks like the RPG stuff from other Ubisoft games has made it's way into this f*ck. Enemies have health bars above their heads.

 

Disappointed that the London Underground is just for fast travel like in Spiderman PS4 and you can't ride it like in WD1 or in GTA IV.

I hate that sh*t so much. How does it make sense that a normal human enemy has a lot more health because of his level? It's a f*cking human. Health bars based on Level should only exist in games with supernatural enemies like GOW.

Probably for each killed, one new would be generated, so there's always an equal number of NPC's roaming the map.

 

I do wonder about playable characters though, if you kill every last of them, who do you play as? Or will the last alive member of the group be somehow immune to permadeath and respawn in hospital, or maybe you get a game over/restart checkpoint screen?

 

And also, what happens if you want to replace a deceased NPC with a new one? You have 20 slots, but what if they're full and you want a new face, 19/20 are alive and one just got killed? Screen i posted has "operative swap" command, but that's only for switching to another playable character, how do you remove the guy who was killed from your "team"?

This article talks a little about killing off your whole team, I think. The author's english isn't very good so it takes a little interpreting: https://segmentnext.com/2019/06/12/watch-dogs-legion-expectations/

 

Here's the relevant bit:

One will be "Game Over" which is harder difficulty but we don't know how much high it is on that scale since there are only very few games that actually feature a true game over. The second option is AI. Here you have to find someone to recruit and then you can play as that NPC."

 

What I take from that is that there's a mode where if you run out of recruits you're done, game over, and there's another mode where if you run out of recruits Bagley will track down someone else and you keep going.

 

Not really sure how true that is though since they seem to be the only outlet who knows about that particular feature and Polygon specifically asked what happens if you run out of recruits and Ubisoft chose not to answer.

I think Ian's still there in the team screen because at that point he was still the active character despite being dead. The player hadn't selected someone to switch to yet. Maybe he leaves that screen once you've taken control of someone else?

 

I'm sure you'll be able to replace team members throughout the game. Just might not be possible in that particular moment, immediately after a death and all.

 

What's weird to me about that screenshot is it says they've collected 18 out of 20 recruits but there's clearly only 17 including dead Ian. Maybe Bagley counts as a member?

god yes.

 

i've been dying to see an open world version of modern london for years, and this is finally it. love the dystopian vibe that is being presented in game, love the multiple characters and the permadeath game mechanic. will definitely buy this game.

Actually it is a sequel to it, it was even WD2 which teased the next game.

Tbh it does seem darker than WD2, WD2 was more lighthearted and focused on DedSec growing as a movement to expose big companies.

 

In Legion it deals with much heavier topics like terrorism, human trafficking, violation of human rights and so on. Yes it does have some funny moments but the focus is darker this time around.

To me it looks like, tonally, they're doing their damnedest to please fans of both. The tone has been a major complaint of both games and it looks like with the 3 the tone will sort of depend on who you're playing as.

I actually loved the tone of the first game. I know it's not popular, but I really loved it. It fit rainy Chicago so well.

 

I do agree with you that a balance between both is good for this game. Watch Dogs 2 had the sunny San Francisco and edgy comedic kind of vibe. This seems to have serious elements, mixed in with some British humour and comedic parts. I hope it works out.

As long as I can still drive around and my interest in games still sort of exists I'll get it at some point. That it doesn't come out till next year hampers the interest in this game for me, along with the 'near future' theme rather than present day. Not to mention the lack of memory on my ps4 despite deleting things on there I no longer needed or used.

Well from what I saw it looks dark compared to wd2. Maybe I am wrong.
