Classique
Are you on-the-go and is annoyed that you can't see the Ability Cards in-game because you want to try out a new build, or you forgot the name of a card in a conversation? Well then partner, let this thread be your guide. In Red Dead Online, there's a unique thing which isn't presented in Single Player - Ability Cards. These cards are unlocked through your progression of Red Dead Online, and awards the player various kinds of buffs, everything to improved Dead Eye to improved damage output. You can have a total of four Ability Cards active at one time. Your first Ability Card slot is unlocked at Rank 2, while the last three are unlocked at 10, 20 and 40 respectively. There are many players who think that you cannot equip multiple same-coloured cards, but you actually can, widening the card combos which you can create. However, you can only have one Dead Eye card active at a time, most likely for balancing reasons. There are three "levels" for each card, where the 3rd level gives the best stats for the card. For all cards, except your first Dead Eye card, costs: $50 to buy $350 to upgrade to Level II $500 to upgrade to level III A total of $900 for each card. But of course, you can't just "buy" the upgraded cards directly. You need to level them up. To level up a card, have the card equipped on your active deck, and do some missions, Showdowns or hunt some animals. Gain XP, basically. The XP you gain for the card is the same amount of XP you get for leveling up your character. To level up your cards, you need to gain: 10.000 XP to be able to purchase Level II from Level I 15.000 XP to be able to purchase Level III from Level II A total of 25.000 XP is needed to upgrade a card to Level III. Thankfully, you can equip four cards at a time if you've unlocked Level 40, essentially making the process x4 faster. The Ability Cards presented are according to the latest patch of Red Dead Redemption II. A Moment to Recuperate (Unlocks at Rank 2) While Dead Eye is active, you regenerate Health. Taking damage will cancel Dead Eye. Focus Fire (Unlocks at Rank 2) While Dead Eye is active, you and your team members deal more damage. The effects does not stack if more than one member of your team has this ability active. Paint It Black (Unlocks at Rank 2) While Dead Eye is active, you can "paint" targets on enemies or animals. Fire your weapon to shoot all marked targets. Each shot drains Dead Eye. You cannot mark other players or be marked while in the Defensive Playing style. Slow And Steady (Unlocks at Rank 24) While Dead Eye is active, you take less damage and headshots do not kill you outright. Taking damage will drain Dead Eye, and you cannot run or sprint. Quite An Inspiration (Unlocks at Rank 44) While Dead Eye is active, you and your allies regenerate Health. The effects does not stack if more than one member of your team has this ability active. Slippery Bastard (Unlocks at Rank 50) While Dead Eye is active, enemies are less accurate when shooting at you, and your accuracy is reduced. The rate at which your Dead Eye drains is increased. Gunslinger's Choice (Unlocks at Rank 10) While Dual Wielding, you deal more damage and are more accurate. Horseman (Unlocks at Rank 10) You deal more damage while on horseback. Sharpshooter (Unlocks at Rank 10) While using a scope, you deal more damage and take less damage. Necessity Breeds (Unlocks at Rank 16) As you get closer to death, you start to do more damage. Landon's Patience (Unlocks at Rank 18) Waiting up to 15 seconds increases your damage. The Short Game (Unlocks at Rank 38) You deal more damage to targets closer to you, but less damage to targets further away. Hangman (Unlocks at Rank 42) Your lasso chokes your enemies, dealing damage to them for every second they're lassoed. Winning Streak (Unlocks at Rank 48) Each consecutive shot on the same target does more damage than the last. Iron Lung (Unlocks at Rank 10) Your Stamina regenerates faster, and you take less damage depending on your current Stamina level. Kick in the Butt (Unlocks at Rank 10) Whenever you take damage, a proportion of it is added to your Dead Eye. Live for the Fight (Unlocks at Rank 10) You regenerate Dead Eye slowly over time. Ride Like the Wind (Unlocks at Rank 10) Whenever you take or deal damage while mounted, a proportion of it is added to your horse's Health and Stamina. Come Back Stronger (Unlocks at Rank 10) Your Health begins regenerating sooner after you take damage. Peak Condition (Unlocks at Rank 14) Increases damage inflicted based on your current Stamina. Inflicting more damage when Stamina is full. Additionally, sprinting uses less Stamina. Eye For An Eye (Unlocks at Rank 28) Killing an enemy with a Headshot restores Dead Eye. The Gift Of Focus (Unlocks at Rank 30) Items and abilities which restore Dead Eye have their effects improved. Strange Medicine (Unlocks at Rank 32) You regain Health whenever you inflict damage. Your Health otherwise regenerates at half the normal rate. Cold Blooded (Unlocks at Rank 36) After killing an enemy, you will regain Health over the next 5 seconds. Fool Me Once (Unlocks at Rank 10) You take less damage each consecutive time you are shot. This effect ends if you are not shot for 10 seconds. Friends for Life (Unlocks at Rank 10) While mounted, you and your horse take less damage. Strength in Numbers (Unlocks at Rank 10) You take less damage for every nearby ally, up to a maximum of three allies. Hunker Down (Unlocks at Rank 20) You take less damage while in cover. To Fight Another Day (Unlocks at Rank 22) You take less damage from bullets while sprinting. The Unblinking Eye (Unlocks at Rank 26) Your Dead Eye and Eagle Eye drain slower. Take The Pain Away (Unlocks at Rank 34) Whever you revive someone, you both take less damage for the next 8 seconds. Of Single Purpose (Unlocks at Rank 40) You take less damage from bullets while unarmed or using a melee weapon. Never Without One (Unlocks at Rank 46) Your hat will block one headshot, and then fall off. while wearing a hat you take less damage. While not wearing a hat you take more damage. Many players struggle to figure out a good combo for their ability cards. What should I choose? What goes great with other cards? What doesn't make me look like I don't know what I'm doing? I've come up with a few premade "combos" to give you some inspiration: "The Missioneer" OR Paint It Black together with The Unblinking Eye and Strange Medicine is an absolute beast in missions. You can paint a large amount of enemies in one go with pistols or revolvers, and thanks to The Unblinking Eye, it costs you almost nothing in Dead Eye to use. To top it off, this also stacks with the two other cards, Strange Medicine and Winning Streak. Strange Medicine is a "life steal" card, where you gain health by dealing damage, and results in you being in the battlefield for much longer, and you're not always addicted to use tonics and whatnot to keep you alive. Winning Streak is especially good in "Kill Them, Each And Every One" against Teddy Brown. If you feel like The Unblinking Eye is a bit of an overkill, and you aren't the type of guy who uses Dead Eye much, pick Peak Condition instead to deal more damage on foot, all while you feel like you could run a marathon with the reduced Stamina drain. "The Sniper" Self explanatory. This deck is mostly for those who likes to snipe from a distance, wether it be in a mission or in the Showdown Series. Focus Fire gives you (and your allies) more damage output when activated, and Peak Condition + Sharpshooter gives out a huge damage increase and protection. Winning Streak is to be sure to kill your target, even if they're using Slow And Steady. A true deck that will make every sniper barrel leak. "The Supporter" OR This is a rare combo to use, but if you're one of those who's focused on helping other people get better stats, you're in luck. Choose Focus Fire for a damage boost or Quite An Inspiration for health regeneration for your team. The Unblinking Eye to keep your Dead Eye active for longer, and To Fight Another Day to quickly run to a fellow shooter in the battlefield and revive them, if situation occurs. Take The Pain Away is most rewarding if you actually manage to revive someone who's been downed, so that card can be whatever you feel fit for it. Again, these are just some suggestions to boost your creativity! "The PvP'er" ----------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- Aah, the deck that most people are seeking out help for; a sensitive topic (inb4 someone says "DUUUR THOSE CARDS ARE BAD, CLASSIQUE U A NOOB"). And let me be honest; I f*cking suck at PvP, but that doesn't mean I don't know roughly what cards are good against other players. There are multiple decks here as an inspiration, but I've narrowed it down to mostly what kind of PvP'er you are. These decks can be used in Freemode or in Showdown Series. Most players are seen with these specific cards equipped in no particular order. I've noticed most people like to use Winning Streak in PvP, and I can understand why; more damage for each consecutive shot on a player. So in my opinion, it's a must-have. There's a little bit of a mix between damage and defense abilities, like the Never Without One card (as you always spawn with a hat on in the Showdown Series), but most like to have Strange Medicine equipped aswell; the downside to Strange Medicine is that your Health regenerates at half the normal rate - but let's be honest, who cares about that when you're face-to-face with a guy equipped with a Mauser pistol. Lifesteal is where it's at. Peak Condition is mostly for the damage output, as almost always your stamina bar will be maxed out - especially since it goes down slower. There is no downsides to this card, which makes it a great card overall. Depending on your style of play, you choose the Deadeye card you wish - Paint It Black to assure you a hit on a player, Slow And Steady to tank more damage, or Slippery Bastard if you like to freeaim people to victory. Note: Paint It Black counters Slippery Bastard, as you can still mark another player who has Slippery Bastard activated. "The Juggernaut" OR You like camping in small places/corners in a building and being an annoying little sh*t that just won't die? Well here's the deck for you! Slow And Steady is to make sure you can tank some damage while dual wielding some Sawn Off Shotguns, and Peak Condition for damage, 'cause you know, for those who won't f*cking die after taking four shotgun slugs to the stomach. Never Without One can be a questionable card, but it could save you from a sniper if you're cornered up most of the time. "The American Footballer" Have you ever REALLY wished you could just charge in on some poor bastard with a lasso and yell "AMERICAN FOOTBALL'S ABOUT TO GET INVENTED" over the mic and be successful? Well, here's your deck. Slippery Bastard to make sure their aim suck sh*t, and Hangman to actual inflict some damage. Strange Medicine stacks with Hangman's damage, so you'll regenerate health you've potentially lost during the charge in no time. To Fight Another Day is to make sure you won't become Swiss cheese. "The Collector" Specific Dead Eye card doesn't matter. The Unblinking Eye gives you the ability to be in Eagle Eye for much longer at a time, so you have it easier locating the collectibles. Friends For Life and Iron Lung is mostly for protection against other players. Iron Lung also offers quick Stamina recovery, which is a good thing when you're mostly sprinting to your collectible. "The Bounty Hunter" OR The Bounty Hunter is the role that faces the most combat, and you have to be ready to deal some damage and act quick. Paint It Black is often always a great card when dealing with NPC's in general, but mostly, it comes down to what Dead Eye you prefer. Gunslinger's Choice gives you more accuracy and damage when dual wielding revolvers, sawn-off shotguns, or pistols - using the LeMat Revolver can be a fantastic choice, as they're by themselves pretty accurate. Iron Lung is for reduced damage and quick Stamina regeneration, as you're likely going to sprint to the Bounty target(s) to lasso them. Peak Condition offers much more sprinting time whilst also helps you deal more damage. Instead of this card, Strange Medicine can also be considered, as it's essentially a Life Steal card, giving you Health for the damage you inflict. A reminder that this thread is still under construction, and much more info can and will be added. Specifics of each card requires testing, and I will do so once I get the time to. Talisman_83
Excellent thread @Classique Though, I would say that Peak Condition is basically useless if your stamina is EXACTLY 100%. The card only kicks in when it's anything less than that. I believe it used to only activate when your stamina was >= 75%, meaning it was pretty OP, as everyone would have that level of stamina pretty much all the time. I'm currently trying to find a build which will make explosive ammo not a one-shot, but I don't know if such a collection exists (without pairing the selection of cards with tonics) Edited September 15, 2019 by Talisman_83 Classique

Though, in my experience, it kicks in after you've hit your target once - at least, that's where it lights up in the top right corner of my screen The only card that directly gave you less damage was Gift Of Focus, but it has since been changed to not reduce your damage output. The Short Game can also work, but requires you to be further away from your target. With that being said, I don't believe that you can deal less damage to someone, but your target may be able to take an Explosive Shot if he has reduced damage cards on - Slow And Steady, Never Without One, Iron Lung and Of Single Purpose are the ones that offer most damage reduction Edit: idk why my text went black Edited September 16, 2019 by Classique Talisman_83

Rokushakubo
LOVE Gunslinger's Choice. That'll be staying in my set up. Got all the new cards fully maxed this morning. Coxbox
So I am trying to come up with a good load out for my abilities cards for my native character. My play style is free aim and i only use Bows and Tomahawks 90% of time, if i need to, I will use my duel cattleman This is Whistling Elk (Mo'e Enestoohe) PIB is great for use with a bow, the other two are good for regaining dead eye and slowing the loss of it down. I am not sure what card to go for last so any suggestions would be good. I ,was thinking of using Of Single Purpose to provide protection while using a melee weapon. A must-have combo if you're hungry for Dead Eye Though, I've tested that Of Single Purpose does not work with tomahawks, as they're classified as ranged weapons... for some reason. I would probably go with Strange Medicine or Iron Lung for the protection instead if I was in your shoes Coxbox
fejkb
Trying out few more setups, but I'm not convinced to change my Slow and Steady, Eye for an Eye, The Unblinking Eye and Strange Medicine. You also take more damage when not wearing a hat. Also, with all my testings, I can confirm that Defensive Cards do little to no good at all in PvP. Cards that give Reduced Taken Damage only reduces damage by 2% at level III against players! Hunker Down gives 4%, and Fool Me Once stacks with 2% for each time you are shot. Defensive cards are much more noticable in PvE. Nerfgoth

Happy Hunter
15 hours ago, The Shakermaker said: Does a lvl 3 sharpshooter make carcano rifle shots insta kill? Definitely not guaranteed at any rate - though some players may die to it. There are so many variables - if they've fully maxed out their strength/health stat, whether they've had any health tonics, or stuff to fortify their health core like minty big game meat, whether they're thin or thicc, not to mention all the different health cards. I use a Rolling Block, with Sharpshooter. Low levels tend to die in one hit. High levels, especially thicc ones, typically survive one hit - but they're messed up quite badly, and that alone causes them to get killed by someone else. Then you get those ones that survive multiple hits - those will be using special health tonics, possibly mixed with the Fool Me Once card. Sharpshooter, Express rounds - maybe another card or two - and you'll kill a good amount of people in one hit. The rest, it's a little irritating, but they don't tend to last long after it. Even the tonic chuggers can be chipped away at if they don't know where you are or don't have a long range gun to shoot back with. Ronin Ogami
Looking for all sorts of build combos & ideas for Everyone. I'm not here to judge your playing style, & hope everyone will (try to) remain respectful. I\m hoping to build a (helpful) thread of ability card builds for all sorts of occasions, so please feel free to post some of your favorite builds, counter-builds, & maybe any (polite) constructive criticism you may have. For PvP I'm generally using: Paint It Black (or) Focus Fire Gunslingers Choice - (seems broken for every weapon except the D/A Revolvers & Mausers *hoping for a fix*) Winning Streak Peak Condition. For PvE, I switch out Winning Streak & Peak Condition for The Gift Of Focus The Unblinking Eye (Seems to give an ungodly amount of eagle eye+, AWEsome for Bounty Hunting, Hunting in general, & Salvage/Condor Egg) "Good Hunting out there!"
