Wanted system:

  • If you rob a train you are instantly wanted from thin air.
  • Crimes can actually be reported (and endless lawman will spawn) in New Austin although it is supposed to be lawless with only a few lawman in Tumbleweed.
  • NPC's will report a crime in 1 minute top no matter where they are.
  • Lawman will recognize you even if you are wearing a mask or bandana.
  • Tons of lawman will spawn from nowhere, no matter if you are in a town or in the wilderness.

Interaction:

  • It's not possible to hold and consume cigar, cigarette and alcohol from you satchel.
  • It's not possible to sit anywhere except in a handful location.
  • Prostitutes are there only for the decoration.
  • It's not possible to light on and turn off lanterns, everything is already light up no matter where.
  • It's not possible to rob a store if you don't aim a revolver at the shopkeeper.
  • It's not possible to steal a product in a general store without aiming a revolver at the shopkeeper.
  • It's not possible to eat your food manually in a saloon like you can in the gang's camp.
  • Kicking doors can be used only in scripted situation.
  • The player can't camp wherever he wants, the game will teleport him to a 'camping spot'.

Clothes:

  • Satchel can't be removed.
  • Some outfits like the closed winter coat from the prologue are not available once the mission/chapter is done.
  • Coats can't be closed.
  • When wearing a bandana or a mask your shirt will be closed no matter what.
  • Off-hand holster can't be removed.
  • Only one color for the bandana.
  • Lack of basic/common color (combination) for many coats, shirts, pants, hats, vests.
  • No poncho and leather duster coat.
  • Can't save more than 5 outfits.

John Marston (epilogue):

  • John Marston's classic haircut not available.
  • Not a single of his outfit from the prologue is available.
  • His classic cowboy outfit is not 100% accurate despite being the case in pre-release screenshots.

AI:

  • NPC's can detect what the player do even if he is above or below them (present since RDR1).

Weather:

  • Volumetric clouds are moving and forming way too fast.
  • Time does not pass at a constant rate.
  • Rain droplet missing.

Activities:

  • Bounties are limited.
  • Stagecoach robberies are limited.
  • No bank robbing.
  • No safe cracking.
  • No nightwatch.
  • No liar's dice.
  • No horseshoes.

Blood:

  • No various bloodpols like in MP3.
  • No blood is splashed against surfaces when a head is exploded.
  • Shooting 3 bullet with revolver into a head will explode it.

Story:

  • Story missions are extremely scripted.
  • Story is completely ridiculous and not accurate with the era.

Single Player, updates, Online:

  • Not a single thing were added in SP, no clothes, weapons, nothing.
  • Rockstar Games are focusing on the Online only ignoring SP feedback and issues.

Some very good points, but most of these don’t bother me.

For me most important changes would be:

Wanted system should be way better, like you said, NPC’s reporting you in a minute in a remote area annoys me the most, also the train robberies.

There should also be unlimited amount of bounties(the biggest letdown imo).

I’m not even bothered about John Marston’s missing haircut, there I’ve said it...

If that's what constitutes a 4/10 then every game I've ever played is a 4/10 because every game has things I wish the game had.

I rate the game a 10/10 right up until the mission "The Wheel". There's nothing wrong with it gameplay wise after that..... buuuttt..... Well you know my gripes with it are cosmetic lol.

Can you expand upon this point please?

Agree with everything you wrote, but mostly minor gripes for me. But annoying nonetheless.

I'm playing for the second time RDR1 i tried to play again the RDR2 but i just can't the game is too slow the character movements it takes so much much time to do anything or to ride anywhere it will take like 15 minutes or more for doing nothing in this game. The story progress sometimes is bad too many character that doesn't even matter. The chapter 2 is the worst chapter in the game but i kinda understand why the story only starts so there is nothing important then. There are still memorable missions especially in the later parts in the game. RDR2 is a good game but have issues with controls and how the game is constructed. I would rate this game max 9/10 while RDR1 is 10/10 to me.

This is genuinely the most annoying thing about this game. It’s like taking a beautiful painting and just smearing a tiny little stain over it. Doesn’t stop it from being a beautiful painting but it bugs the life out me.

9/10. Only beaten by San Andreas and on par with RDR last. Though over time I can see this game top RDR purely on the survival elements as I'm loving that aspect of this game.

RDRO has seen my smile go a little at the wasted potential and pushing too much of a PvP focus for my liking, but it'll pass, lol. This game will last me forever on story mode alone though, still play RDR last too. :)

I don't buy into R*/TT's "RDO/GTAO is FREE to all owners of RDR2/GTA V" malarkey but I really do treat RDR2 and RDO as separate things, same with GTA V and GTAO. The SP alone is more than worth the cost of the game.

Oh absolutely.

I'm delighted with story, it's just a bit of fatigue after GTA:O and into RDRO with a heavy dose of story mode in there too. I'm just not a good fighter and in RDRO it's much more important to need to be, lol. (Plus I really don't want to buy those cards).

I'm hoping the role playing additions bring much to the game, but feel now R* are almost there for what they want too. I get many just want more competition for more of time, but I really enjoy relaxed game. Story mode gives me that and more.

But disappointed by the game's direction online, but I'll never regret buying the story. :)

Guarma was so bad that I nearly switched off the game and that’s a first with a Rockstar title. It was one big on-rails continues CRAP of a mission/chapter. The worst of its kind, didn’t even feel like a Rockstar game to me.

Totally agree! I stayed up most of the night just to get through it. I really wasn't sure what game I was playing at that point. If it were a standalone game I would have dropped it.

People will point to it's 'narrative value' or other pretentious sh*t(Dutchs breaking point on his tropical paradise blah blah) as to why it's an important chapter but for me it was still unecessary and obtuse, and if I'm hating every moment of it then I don't care about what it's trying to say. It was a perfect moment for a break in game after the failed bank job, for us to spend time with Arthur alone...perhaps in New Austin. Perhaps he was going to leave the gang there and then but gets pulled back out of duty. Or perhaps Arthur, Dutch, Bill, Micah and Javier end up in New Austin. Or just Arthur, Dutch and Micah...as they hide out from the law for a month.

7.5/ 10

RDR 2 is a game worth playing. Really it is from its breathtaking scenery to ambient sounds you feel as if you were in the game. However this game has its flaws but unlike other games, these flaws could’ve been avoided. For instance, retconning. John had a daughter that passed away before the events of RDR 1. So do we get to see her in RDR 2 a prequel to 1? Nope. Not even a mention. Another retcon is Bonnie McFarlane clearly stated in 1 that the big ranch house was built when she was a little girl but when we meet her in RDO, she’s grown and the ranch ain’t like how it is in 1. One could argue that Rockstar simply forgot these things. But the thing is they are things they shouldn’t have forgot about. There’s a bunch of retcons in this game that make me not want to give it a 10/10 as well as gameplay features.

RDR2

Singleplayer = 7/8 out of 10

Online = 3 out of 10

My reasoning - The story was generally good and had a good amount of content but I had an issue with the Guarma chapter. The chapter, I feel could be removed and it would have no implications whatsoever. I also don't see the point of that chapter. Also Rockstar has mentioned that they have cut content (IIRC something like 3 ish hours worth of missions) and the A.I is not up to scratch as they claim.

As others have mentioned, there are also various gameplay features as well as story related content that was cut. One thing that is really annoying is how quick the weather transitions. I can see clouds form and dissapiate extremely quickly  and the amount of day and night is not balanced imo (it breaks some of the immersion to an extent.)

Every game has cut content, a developer being public about talking about cut content isn't a reason to mark a game down. Cut content is unfinished and most likely lacking in quality, it's cut for a reason.

Guarma was pretty much a discount Uncharted level. Just mindless action that really put the sh*tty shooting mechanics under scrutiny. Story-wise it was probably there just for shock value. Whoa, our cowboys are stranded on a jungle island!

Funny how RDR2’s story is treated like a masterpiece but if it was a TV show it would get shat on so bad for plot inconsistencies and lazy writing. Just goes to show that expectations are lower for a video game story therefore they’re often given reserved praise just for being above average. I’ve seen comments saying RDR2’s story is better than most Hollywood productions even though it emulates every basic Hollywood cliche.

The real beautiful moments in RDR are the song moments, when “That’s The Way it Is” and “Unshaken” play. That is a unique video game experience right there. Not the generic melodrama of Chapter 6 cutscenes. “Dutch, you’re losing your mind!”
