  1. 1. Rate RDR2

Recommended Posts

RDR2 was released in 10/26/18.

Well, after playing it more than half a year, what are your opinions about the game, and how would you rate it now?

El Penguin Bobo

I would recommend that you do the poll in numbers, stars look very confusing...

Anyways, I vote NULL because I haven't played it yet. Westerns are not my type of games but I'll get to it.

10/10

Exceeded my expectations overall. I have some reservations about the story, specifically about how R* approached writing some characters in that it was over the top for a reason or another, but it does not affect the incredible world of the game.

Unfinished, overhyped and post release abandoned game. It's a great game but doesn't deserve the praise it's been getting. Singleplayer gameplay is clunky and too scripted, only fun is the open world and some activities that for some reason you can't repeat (random encounters, bounties, stagecoach robberies).

Included online component has been released broken with nothing to do, even after 7 months it's still one of the worst multiplayer experiences to date. R* neglects it's fan base. Not much to say about it other than that. Story is 10/10 for me though (singleplayer... Online sux ass)

SP: 10/10 and my GotG at this moment in time

Story, world, side content, visuals and audio/soundtrack are all 10/10 for me. Controls are a bit funky at times with the left trigger stuff but my only real complaint with the controls is the shooting, relying on autoaim in 2019 still is a big fat meh. Occasionally the game is a bit heavy handed by forcing the way you play missions but that's mainly to do with imposing the weapon choice on you.

RDO: 5/10 at launch 6/10 at the moment

There's a decent online sandbox there but nothing to keep you coming back every daily. The summer update may improve that score greatly.

Even though this game is having a lot of criticism lately I'm not getting on that same boat, yes the game has problems but don't let that ruin your experience. I loved the story and characters Arthur became my favorite R* Games protagonist so far, I really can't get bored of the open world, the gameplay well that's how we are used to with R* Games so I don't really have problem with it. I give it a 10/10 my personal best game of the generation.

I can't say much of Red Dead Online, I only played it on the first week, did all the story missions and lost interest, I'm not saying it has something wrong it's just that I'm not really an online player.

10/10. Everytime I boot up the game on my PS4 Pro its always a joy. The game is beautiful in 4K. RDR2 as a whole is a work of art, a solid and worthy sequel/prequel to Red Dead Redemption that stands on its own two feet.

Hmm.. It's not actually 4K you know, you need an Xbox One X for that ;)

A 9/10, the problem in RDR2 is the outdated shooting mechanics and slow pace(maybe because we are used to GTA) other than that, the game is a masterpiece in mostly every way.

9.5 / 10

The story, the world, the music are all damn near perfect.

The controls can be a mess especially if you have never played a R* game before.

10/10 for me.

It was really everything I would hope RDR2 would be... and then some.

Controls are quite annoying at times, especially in shootouts. They often make me want to restart the mission.

Cover system is bad.

Story was good, maybe not spectacular, but very good.

Would've loved to have a chapter or 2 further West and Mexico, but ya can't have everything.

More bounties would've really helped, but I love the length of the game and that it's 107 main story missions👌

Overall I still think it's amazing, and been playing it since launch almost every day.

Thanks Rockstar for a great Western game, we need more!😉

10/10. After GTA V was a such a hit and miss type of game I'm glad R* got back up onto the saddle (no pun intended) and delivered easily the best game of the current generation.

7.5/10 beautiful world, great exploration, excellent soundtrack but the story goes downhill chapter 3 onwards and only gets good again in the epilogue, gameplay mainly the gunplay its an abomination.

Great story but some characters are badly written (Micah and Sadie most notably)

Missions were a little too hand holdy

Gameplay was very bad

But the world was amazing, Arthur was amazing and the graphics were amazing. The fact that they managed to push out such a detailed game gives them most of my points.

i gave it 9/10. the thing that stops it from being a ten is the fact that rockstar added way too much realism. im fine with some realism. but they added way too much for me. the horse bonding. clean your guns. falling off the horses. and even the fact that you have to kill an animal a certain way or with certain ammo in order to get 3 star pelts. none of that stuff was in the first redemption. and it was great without it. but other than that it was an amazing game.

While I can understand how this might be a turn off for some people when I tried to play RDR after smashing RDR2 it honestly felt hollow. The survival elements like sleeping, eating etc and micro managing of Arthur's horse, cleaning weapons etc make RDR2 far more immersive IMO, but going back to RDR it just doesn't feel right and puts into perspective how much more advanced RDR2 actually is at its core.

But each to their own.

yea i know some players like the extra realism. and thats fine. but after going back to play rdr1. i really enjoy not having those limitations. its more fun for me. but if you like the realism. thats good too. as long as people like this game thats great.

I’ve been playing again for about two weeks now after not touching it since maybe December. It’s really great.

Scenery 10/10. Story is 9/10 because of retcons. Characters 10/10 - the gang is awesome btw, gameplay 9/10

all it needs is Red Dead Remastered and/or Apocalypse Nightmare. I’ll be happy with either

I think R* should've added a classic and survival mode. Classic for a more RDR like experience without that stuff and survival for all the current elements :)

Yes, they should have gone with the full and extreme survival experience like in those survival games, and the other mode classic experience, like in RDR1.

Now what they did, is tried to do a bit of both which result in a half backed solution.

I give it an 8/10.

It's unbelievabley ambitious and I hope R* continue down this route, although I'm not sure they have enough time to do so.

The world design is a marvel.

Gameplay is average. No problem with the gunplay at all.

Mission design is where R* need to innovate next. I do get that the open world is where you're supposed to play though.

It still does not top The Witcher 3 though. That is still the benchmark for open world games imo.

Definitely half-baked.

Would love a survival mode. Then again, what I really want is a quest driven rpg set in the 'wild west'.

9,5/10;

The game is a masterpiece but the controls are a little bit clunky and I feel like that should've been addressed when the game was being tested.

everything else is awesome and overall it deserved all the hype and love it got.

Wanted system:

  • If you rob a train you are instantly wanted from thin air.
  • Crimes can actually be reported (and endless lawman will spawn) in New Austin although it is supposed to be lawless with only a few lawman in Tumbleweed.
  • NPC's will report a crime in 1 minute top no matter where they are.
  • Lawman will recognize you even if you are wearing a mask or bandana.
  • Tons of lawman will spawn from nowhere, no matter if you are in a town or in the wilderness.
  • Lawman will be most of the time against the player and in favor of NPC's who are actually wrong and are breaking the law.

Interaction:

  • It's not possible to hold and consume cigar, cigarette and alcohol from you satchel.
  • It's not possible to sit anywhere except in a handful location.
  • Prostitutes are there only for the decoration.
  • It's not possible to light on and turn off lanterns, everything is already light up no matter where.
  • It's not possible to rob a store if you don't aim a revolver at the shopkeeper.
  • It's not possible to steal a product in a general store without aiming a revolver at the shopkeeper.
  • It's not possible to eat your food manually in a saloon like you can in the gang's camp.
  • Kicking doors can be used only in scripted situation.
  • The player can't camp wherever he wants, the game will teleport him to a 'camping spot'.

Clothes:

  • Satchel can't be removed.
  • Some outfits like the closed winter coat from the prologue are not available once the mission/chapter is done.
  • Coats can't be closed.
  • When wearing a bandana or a mask your shirt will be closed no matter what.
  • Off-hand holster can't be removed.
  • Only one color for the bandana.
  • Lack of basic/common color (combination) for many coats, shirts, pants, hats, vests.
  • No poncho and leather duster coat.
  • Can't save more than 5 outfits.

John Marston (epilogue):

  • John Marston's classic haircut not available.
  • Not a single of his outfit from the prologue is available.
  • His classic cowboy outfit is not 100% accurate despite being the case in pre-release screenshots.

AI:

  • NPC's can detect what the player do even if he is above or below them (present since RDR1).
  • NPC's will panic or become aggressive if the player walk behind them for a few seconds.
  • NPC's do not commit any crimes unless it's scripted.

Weather:

  • Volumetric clouds are moving and forming way too fast.
  • Time does not pass at a constant rate.
  • Rain droplet missing.

Activities:

  • Bounties are limited.
  • Stagecoach robberies are limited.
  • No bank robbing.
  • No safe cracking.
  • No nightwatch.
  • No liar's dice.
  • No horseshoes.

Blood:

  • No various bloodpols like in MP3.
  • No blood is splashed against surfaces when a head is exploded.
  • Shooting 3 bullet with revolver into a head will explode it.

Story:

  • Story missions are extremely scripted.
  • Story is completely ridiculous and not accurate with the era.

Single Player, updates, Online:

  • Not a single thing were added in SP, no clothes, weapons, nothing.
  • Rockstar Games are focusing on the Online only ignoring SP feedback and issues.

I know everyone has their opinion and most of these are valid (though some are borderline nitpicking), but I really can't see how anyone could justify giving it 4/10.

That's putting it in Ride To Hell: Retribution/Fallout 76 territory. Come on.
