[ GTA V ] GIMS for 3dsmax 2017 - 2020

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Got all the updated Files, but after I choose the material folder GIMS opens with a blackscreen window and nothing else happens.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Edit: A reinstall of 3ds Max fixed the issue. Just be careful with the Scrips folder, I guess.

@Stochastic_Hegemony I know this is a kinda dead post, but when I start up 3DSMAX, it autoruns the GIMS EVO scripts, I have the replacements you posted for local/shared, but it gives me the error: http://prntscr.com/ozk3v9

I am on 3DSMAX 2020.

@stickerzz bobloblaw had the same issue as you do. He solved it by reinstalling GIMS from the manual install provided in the first post by @linkinforever and then applying my revised files. I might revamp the whole manual install package so it's only one download but I wouldn't be able to edit the top post in this thread. Make sure you have no files from the original GIMS EVO present to clash with the new files. The error you have is an initialization error of the GIMS script so I know it is not installed properly to work. Either a GIMS file is in the wrong place, or the wrong version of a file is being used. You can test (just the UI not any import/export yet) with the manual install files first to see that it works properly before applying my changes.

Alright, so that fixed it, but is there any fix for why it takes so long to export my models? It takes around 20-30 minutes with the software not responding, and it using around 28 gigabytes of ram(i know 3dsmax can be a ram hog)... All I did was remove some polys for a door spot...

@stickerzz yes, this is when you use the files I posted as replacements. It will reduce the export time significantly.

I am using your replacements, if thats what you mean... I don't know what normal export times are supposed to look like.

@stickerzz Export times should not exceed about 5 minutes. Can you post the file you are exporting?

@stickerzz Sorry you will have to include the vb_17_stores_high folder along with the .odr. There should be a folder with the same name that includes a .mesh file also of the same name. I see there's a bunch of textures involved as well.

I just tested the vanilla vb_17_stores .odr that I extracted using openIV and it took exactly 3 minutes and 15 seconds to export with the appropriate texture dictionaries included. Willing to test again if you send the proper folder along. Just zip the whole thing.

You may want to hit the clear cache button on GIMS, considering the multiple installations - maybe there's an odd file left behind somewhere.

Alright, hope this is the right one.

@stickerzz So I imported the vb_stores_high file and noted that there were a lot of NAN (not a number) in the .mesh file. This could be part of the problem. I'm guessing when you removed vertices something was not accounted for properly in 3ds. I tried exporting anyway and it went through in about 3 minutes.

the corrected file without nan is here:http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=08734926236029349295

Also, just in case it helps, I've put my GIMS/V/Files folder here:

http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=00823709051291269678

I forgot to mention you can post the format.ms file from your log folder and can see where GIMS spent its time.

Thank you, will try it out. So where do i make the format.ms file? Does it have to be on the same drive where my autodesk is downloaded on?

3ds will look for the file on your c:\ under the \log folder. It should be created automatically, if it is not, use notepad to save a blank file called format of type .ms at that location. It must be on the c:\.
