Enable Crossplay Between PC and Xbox One or PS4 in GTA V

Recommended Posts

Not going to happen for GTA V's Online I'm afraid. There could be two million signatories on the petition, it ain't gonna change jack at this stage.

For GTA 5, crossplay is not going to happen for a number of reasons.

Firstly, the differences between PC and consoles are too large. Consoles have only controller with or without auto aim, PC have keyboard and mouse, with optional controller and auto aim, higher frame rates, and most importantly, mods. It wouldn't exactly be balanced unless you limit PC to 30fps and controller only. I'm sure most people on PS4/XB1 wouldn't be very welcoming of PC players with mods in their sessions.

Secondly, between Xbox1 and PS4, the hardware is similar enough but both platforms use different subscription services for Online. Rockstar would need support from Sony and Microsoft to make it happen.

Third, GTA Online is now 6 years old, and crossplay is quite a fundamental feature in any game (often used as selling point) that should be added on release or at least early in its life cycle. Rockstar wouldn't be willing to spend the necessary resources for crossplay on a 6 year old game, when they could instead release the Oppressor Mk3 and just sell more shark cards.

As for why Rockstar did not add crossplay for GTA 5 in 2013 or for GTA 4 multiplayer before that, I guess they thought it wasn't worth it back then, but it certainly isn't worth it now.

For GTA 6, if they add it on release it would certainly be worth it. I would petition for that (and maybe they can save RDR2 by adding crossplay in next update)

Little bit of false info there, only PS4 doesn't have access to keyboard and mouse.

Sorry for not being more specific, I meant native support by the game, without an adapter that emulates a controller, I know Xbox One has KBM support these days, but not for GTA 5, unless you use an adapter, and it probably wouldn't work that great.

I couldn't find GTA 5 on the list of Xbox One games with KBM support.

By the way, PS4 supports keyboard and mouse too.

https://support.playstation.com/s/article/Use-Keyboard-and-Mouse-with-PS4?language=en_US

Looks like the only issue with KBM on consoles today is games not supporting it.

I know I'm late, but all they have to do is make it so you can only play with other platforms in an invite only session. They might not be able to do this between xbox 1 and ps4, but they can still do it between xbox 1 and pc, and ps4 and pc.

Not just a little false info, but a lot of false info. First off FPS has absolutely nothing to do with cross play, zero, graphics is simply just a localized component to the system you play on. Auto-aim isnt hard to combat, considering its a basic ''Does player have controller?" question in the code then a "keyboard=false" Im a programmer with a few dozen apps and over 10 years of experience, its really THAT simple. The fact they havnt done this yet has to because of mods, not for auto aim or (as stupid as you are for suggesting it) graphics.

With graphics advantage I don't mean how pretty the game looks, but higher framerate and view distance, and turning grass off on PC to spot people hiding in it, which gives you an advantage over other players. View distance and framerate are very important in competitive gaming. (for the record, I don't play GTA as such) PC can set view distance higher than console, so PC players can kill console players from greater distance. Also, if someone on PC plays the game at 180 fps (GTA V's engine limit), compared to console players at 30, they have a clear advantage in reaction time. Even if they play with the same controller, they always get the first shot, simply because the hardware reacts faster. Unless you limit the servers to 30 ticks per second.

Are Xbox and sony just gonna to make a cross platform for gta seriously we need this

Erm it has to go through Rockstar Games (Rockstar North) first and foremost and I actually think they're against cross-platform stuff for some reasons.

Even if Sony and Microsoft worked together and got rid of their "feud", it's still down to the game developers to produce a title that supports such a feature.

The render difference wouldnt matter too much. Yeah they would have an advantage but even on games like call of duty or fortnite, pc has greater render distance.. same with fps. Fps varys by system/gpu.. even 2 pc players can have different fps rates and render capabilities. So graphics and render distances and fps rates have pretty much no affect on adding cross play or not. It really boils down to mods. (Im not a programmer) but im sure theres some kind of way where they could disable use of mods when cross play is enabled or something. I mean call of duty PC players use hacks/ mods on modern warfare 2019 vs console players (i know cause a friend of mine can use them against console while on his pc)

Fps and render distances dont even effect crossplay. Look at fortnite. Pc plays have advantage over console due to render and fps differences... but still has cross play. Even pc vs pc, rendering and fps rates can vary depending on the gpu. It just boils down to mods. (Im not a programmer) but im sure theres a way to make it to where mods are disabled while crossplay is enabled. Then again, call of duty pc players can still use mods against console players in modern warfare

Maybe with Xbox and PS4 but not with PC because of modders and plus they have better draw distance and frame rate on top of having keyboard and mouse which will give PC players an unfair advantage in PVP. Not to mention there could be an increase in false positive bans and resets with PC players giving mods such as invincibility to console players which the PC modder will have installed software to protect them from R* anti cheat system whereas console players won't have any protection from R* anti cheat system which will get them falsely flagged.

Yes

Yes

Pc and PS neef crossplay

You want your game to be crashed constantly and be unplayable during the worst times?
You want to be dropped money when someone from Rockstar is watching the session and decides to ban everyone that is sitting there, happy to receive the cash, as well as the person dropping it?

Lol.
Okie dokie.

Any PS4 or Xbone players that want to crossplay with PC either have never played online on PC, or need mental attention.

Seriously on PC modding is a huge problem, unless you want to have random sh*t happen to you? like tanks raining on you, or getting trapped in a cage, or part of your player model being turned into a dildo, or ammo and weapons being removed from your inventory etc etc etc.

I mean personaly I dont care as I'm on PC already so I wont get any more hacking than before and have several friends on console, so it would be cool for me but I promise you it will suck for them.

I'm sorry OP but It really is a terrable idea with the state the game is in.

Besides never will happen anyway regardless of your missguided feelings, Rstar wont want modded money on other platforms.

I do not think Airwolf meant that FPS difference would stop crossplay working but was pointing out the advantages that higher FPS gives you and why crossplay would be unbalanced against console owners.

Higher FPS does give you an advantage, not just with reaction times and controller latency but in GTA the higher your frame rate the faster the cars will go. And the same with draw distances seeing further and clearer obviously gives a advantage.

Check his profile. I'm happy to argue with any forum veteran, but I don't typically respond to throwaway accounts or first posters, but you are right. By graphics I meant the technical advantages like better draw distance, and better reaction time from higher FPS. Image quality has nothing to do with it, and if framerate was an issue, you couldn't even have normal multiplayer on PC, unless everyone was locked at the same framerate.

I have tested lowest draw distance at half V-sync against maximum draw distance at unlocked FPS, and you can definitely feel and see the difference, even with a controller.

I am a programmer too, and I never claimed crossplay couldn't be done, I was only explaining why it shouldn't be done and why it hasn't been done. Rockstar just coded it like "crossplay=false"

I think they should enable crossplay between PS4 and Xbox One though, no harm in that, just keep PC out of it.

I'm not sure about the cars going faster with framerate in V, I know GTA SA did that but I don't notice it in V. It only looks a bit stuttery at low framerates.

Crossplay would be cool in GTA6 if they work on it early in development of the game and implement better anti hack measures from the ground up.

Unfortunatly every crossplay game I have played suffers from modders to a certain degree I play Forza M 7 and Forza F 4 crossplay PC-Xbone and sometimes you do see people obviously cheating with speed boosts etc but there is a lot lot lot less hacking than in GTA, Probably because Rstar only seem to crack down on hacks and exploits that threaten the sharkcard sales. Not the ones that ruin the game play for the proper players.

I think Rstar need to employ loads of online moderators who just play the game with the power to remove and ban cheating players accounts, if there was one in every 5 lobbies it would soon clear up the problem. I know hackers will just start a new account but if they need to do this every few days it will soon put people off.

2 words: dedicated servers. I didn't buy RDR2 for the sole reason it is still P2P. Yes, I am that petty. If I ever get it for free from Epic Games, I might have a look at the single player, but I will not be playing it online. It doesn't even have private lobby option.
