CharmingCharlie
You know I have missed you jallar I don't want any excuses when you get your nehalem though. I expect you to be pulling for the team . Great to see you back Xcomm I wondered what had happened to you with folding. I just wish I could contribute, I don't mind running the gpu client and having lower settings in my games but at the moment I am playing fallout 3 nearly every waking hour and it doesn't like the folding client (inexcusable if you ask me). Mainland Marauder
I've had [email protected] running for two or three days straight now. Hasn't been slowing me down, despite using memory hogging-ass Vista. Then again, I don't play much memory-intensive games or anything on my laptop. Dunpeal
Started folding for GTAF. User McFruity How do you see what you are woking on and stuff? jelly
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/fahproject The log says what project number the client is working on. If you're on a GPU client you might come across brand new projects that aren't in the database yet more often.

Spuds725
Just signed up for this and DLed the client to all 3 of our PCs as well as the PS3. Just a quick PS3 question-- does interupting the program on the PS3 mess anything up or will it resume after-- I want to play, but the current protein isn't supposed to be done for another 3 hours. I'm assume it will be fine but am curious if anyone knows for sure. Also updated my sig for a link to this thread-- I can't believe this has been here (as have I) for 5 years and I didn't know about it. Thanks (finally a justification for the PS3 for my wife-- I need to tell her it only works when I'm gaming ) Spuds Edited December 6, 2008 by Spuds725 Spuds' GTA V 100% Checklist // My IV & Vice City Videos "I want to design a video game where you take care of all the people shot in all the other video games.... jelly
If the protein misses the deadline you miss the points - the whole point of GPU and PS3 clients is to get more work done quicker and back to their farm, so if they allowed longer deadlines it'd be moot. PetsOvernight
And down go the points again... ah well! Heh. And as for the PS3, don't worry about quitting, and restarting, the deadline isn't too quick.
Waste
Well, I've been gone from the forums for a long time. >.> Uh I saw this topic and decided to fire up [email protected] again. Waste
Vista? On a laptop? ..voluntarily? It's what it came with. Works fine for just general usage. I stick with XP though on my other two PCs. (Server and Gaming rig.) And by installing it as a service meaning I want it to run silently with no windows constantly open. And either way, I have it up and running on all three PCs now just fine. My Triple Core Phenom, Athlon x2 QL-60, and an early model intel dual core. (Forget what it is, can't be f*cked to look right now.)
Mainland Marauder
Vista? On a laptop? ..voluntarily? It's what it came with. Works fine for just general usage. Yep, that's my story too. After Vista came out it was very hard to find a new laptop with XP rather than Vista. I've dealt with it, and it's a RAM hog and this notebook has just 1 gig. Turning on [email protected] for the first time in awhile. Would like to get it active again; I've just been sorting some issues as this thing is starting to show its age a bit. Waste
Well my laptop came with 3GBs of memory so it doesn't hurt it much. Hell, for a $600 laptop it's plays some games just fine, even WoW's new expansion pack which gives some computers hell. EDIT: I used that image you guys had up there for a signature. Hope no one minds, but if they do just send me a PM and I'll take it off. Edited January 18, 2009 by Waste
Exkabewbikadid
Mike got around to updating the logo on the stats page if you guys haven't noticed yet. Sorry I haven't been running this much lately. Technically everything is stable since no WUs have crashed, but for some reason the GPU client started causing my cursor and windows to hang when I minimize/restore them. It's annoying as hell when I'm using the pc so I started shutting it down and then forgetting to restart it most the time. I don't have a clue what started this. It's either got to be a problem with the 6.23 client, a problem with the newest drivers, a problem with the new RAM I installed (although I wouldn't think the system RAM should have any impact on the GPU client, but who knows) I'll see if I can get that sorted out as well as try to get the SMP client going again after it crapped out on me out of the blue a while back. Mainland Marauder
I'm using the CPU client and trying to run it anytime I'm not doing something that running [email protected] would slow things down too much. I can still run it and post on GTAF, for instance, but I might turn it off when playing a game. I've only got it installed on one core of the Pentium on this laptop. Would using both cores slow me down significantly from what I might experience now (which is minimal?) "You tell me exactly what you want, and I'll explain to you very carefully why it cannot be." Spuds725
My PS3 folds circles around my PCs -- I imagine some higher end PCs could go faster then my PS3. Jeremy- have you emailed anyone an MS/Xbox about this-- certainly would help their image, I don't think it would be difficult to make it run on the xbox-- although they might not want to do something that the PS3 does already just for "spite" -- they like to be a leader not a follower. One thing I don't like about it on PS3 is that you can't do much else on it while it is running-- does playing a DVD really take up alot of resources on the PS3-- would love to run it concurrently with playing a movie for my kids or something. Mainland Marauder
I'd like to use the PS3 or GPU clients but I don't have a PS3 and my graphics card isn't quite up to specs. So I poke along with the CPU client. That said, I've been slacking lately. Need to remember to turn on the client when I go to sleep. Exkabewbikadid
Yeah, I'm slacking too. Reason being is that I'm going to switch over to Vista 64 bit, but I haven't had time to do it yet. Hopefully in the next week..

I have it in my startup folder so it starts everytime and just runs in the background-- although I've been getting a serious error on my desktop Pentium 4 machine-- and its been crashing-- I've tried uninstalling deleting all local info, redownloading and running and it still occurs... runs fine on my other desktop machine (kids PC) and the lap top (wife's PC) and the PS3 (my PC ) Spuds' GTA V 100% Checklist // My IV & Vice City Videos "I want to design a video game where you take care of all the people shot in all the other video games.... I know, I can't seem to catch you are you running a GPU client-- my PS3 does most of my folding-- I need to get out my amp meter and see how much power I'm drawing to fold with it-- it is helping to heat my house I suppose. I doubt i will run it near as much in the summer.
