ViperGTS-R
BTW, when does your name get published with all the others??? Your name will show up on the list about an hour after your first WU is completed and sent back to the [email protected] servers. Yeah, all you have to do is let it run, but if ou want to make it run faster, follow my instructions that I listed a couple posts back. @ ZERO - Basically, [email protected] is using your pc's idle clock cycles to run a code that simulates how a protien folds. There are 2 different codes. Each Work Unit is based on 1 of the 2 codes. 1 - Tinker core code - This is the older, slower code that will eventually be phased out. This code runs faster on AthlonXP processors than it does on Pentium 4s. 2 - Gromacs core code - This is the new, fast code that works much better, especially on Pentium-based computers. The Gromacs core was a beta untill just a few days ago. Adding a special tag called -advmethods to the targetline in your [email protected] shortcuts will make the [email protected] program get more Gromacs cores than Tinker cores. So if you want, add the -advmethods tag to your [email protected] shortcuts so you'll get more Gromacs cores. Eventually, Tinker cores will be phased out, so the -advmethods should no longer be neccessary at some point. In other words, Gromacs core will be the only code, hurray! Tinkers suck! So if tinker cores work better on Athlons then is there a way of making the computer get more tinker cores than gromacs? or is that allready the case? and majestik i would like to know any customisations you have made to your folding at home.... as mine is completely as i downloaded it and you seem to have a much faster Workunit speed and i have similar processors to you
majestik
customizations? none... i just run 3 processors 24/7 hehehe actually.. i run -advmethods, with Electon Microscope monitoring and i use HideX to hide the dos windows --------------------

[ZERO]
Um...small question. I went to houston, and when I got back my Folding was a 9/400. When I left it was at about 386/400. wtf?
CrazyDude
' date='June 02 2003,08:14'] Um...small question. I went to houston, and when I got back my Folding was a 9/400. When I left it was at about 386/400. wtf? did you finish a work unit? you could be done with that old one and have started a new one. look at the display screen for [email protected] and on the left side in the first grey box look toward the bottom (below wu progress and above th bar graph). If you have a line that says Finished WUS followed by a number you have completed a work unit.
ViperGTS-R
2nd!! w00t! Ive FINALLY overtaken Xcomm even though i have done 8 more WU than you, you must have had a major one and we are nearly 300th and going into the 200's we are doin well
JoeyLeone25
Right, if I was to run [email protected] on computer that is connected to other comps(about 20) & these comps are about 233mHz would the WU go faster by taking energy from the other comps or would it just use the energy from the comp that I'm running it on? Exkabewbikadid
2nd!! w00t! Ive FINALLY overtaken Xcomm even though i have done 8 more WU than you, you must have had a major one and we are nearly 300th and going into the 200's we are doin well Well done, Viper! That's what I get for dragging my feet with building my new machine (which I hopefully will start on this weekend) Now only if we could get 100 more like you and Majestik folding, GTAForums would make it to the top 100 in no time Yeah, it's possible to have a low WU count and a higher score, especially since I had several 73 pointers early on. Also running -advmethods speeds things up a lot, since Gromacs core is more effiecient than Tinker on both AMD and Intel chips. Right, if I was to run [email protected] on computer that is connected to other comps(about 20) & these comps are about 233mHz would the WU go faster by taking energy from the other comps or would it just use the energy from the comp that I'm running it on? Unfortunately, only one WU can be worked on by one processor at a time, so you can't get more computers to work on 1 WU. BUT... If you have access to about 20 computers with 233MHz processors, by all means, install the [email protected] program on all of them! You can use your same username for all of them which would give you another 20 processors to your name. Now 233MHz obviously isn't going to fold very fast, but if you set up the -advmethods on all of them, it would help out a lot. I don't know if 233 MHz processors would meet the dead line with some of the larger WUs, but it's worth a shot.

Arch Stanton
Why in the FLUCK has this been depinned? It's going to be huge pain in the dick searching the page for this topic every time you want to check your folding status. Wheelman
At one time there was suggestion of a small subforum somewhere for this stuff. Now we're not even allowed a pinned topic? It's only going to reduce participation. If the topic isn't worth a pinned spot at the top of the most popular forum, then it's unlikely to convince as many members that it's worth their spare processor cycles. Arch Stanton
Oh, I bet this is another one of those April Fool's joke things again. Jevon's way up in the ranks, he's just f*cking around and'll put it back later. There's no reason in the world that it would ever be upinned and leave the Member Pictures thing up there. It's still a weird joke, though. Edit: Oh man, just reading some of the vet's replies, I can tell right now that this is going to get ugly before someone finally fixes this, and probably spam the sh*t out of a perfectly good topic, as well. I would suggest that everyone post any question about this pinning madness over in the GTA Network Topic that Q&D made, so the Folding topic doesn't get all f*cked up. mike39
Bah, I don't agree with Jev on this one, but I'm sure he's trying to think logically or something. Exkabewbikadid
BUMP Anyways, I found a statistics page with the top 1000 teams and I've done some figuring. http://www.statsman.org/folding2stats/html/ Right now Team GTAForums is 321 in the rankings. We produce a score of 3,400 a week. However, there are about 40-50 teams between rank 100-320 that produce 4,000 to 10,000 points a week. So basically Team GTAForums has no chance at the top 100 (and maybe not even the top 200) with only ~40 processors active a week. No pinned topic = no new interest = no more processors Oh well, the dream is over. *sits back and waits for "bigger dick" and *titty" topics to knock this back to page 2 again.*

WidowMaker
You make it sound like a game but the point is to fight cancer not move up some league table. Isn't it enough that we are all doing our best? PetsOvernight
Well, I've had my comp on for like, 5 hours now, maybe a little less, and I'm 2% complete. You're right, above all else, this is about supporting a major research project that will unveil mysteries of protien folding in the human body, which in turn will provide answers towards curing/preventing some major forms of diseases and cancers. I'm sorry to make it sound like some kind of game by hurling statistics around like so much stale confetti, but not coincidentally, the higher the team moves up in the ranks, the more we are doing to help this effort. But hey, I'll admit it, I am treating this too much like a game, not that I even care about my own rankings within the team itself - this is definately a team effort. I just thought it'd be cool if a GTA community got some recognition for helping this effort. Who knows, it may have made people think differently about GTA when they realize one of it's big fan bases isn't as violent as the game itself, but actually willing to show interest in helping a scientific effort to help mankind. What you said. When people see that GTA loving kids are actually trying to help get rid of cancers and stuff, they'll realize we don't really fantasize about killing people with bats or cars or blowing sh*t up (well, we still like blowing sh*t up but that's different. ) I think if this does get a pin, more people will see it, do it, and we're rise through the ranks.
