Thanks for hosting the sig.  Sigup seems pretty screwed at the moment.

@Maj - does this mean I'll have another shot at catching you?  :p  Nah, you're way out there and it looks like ViperGTS-R will pass me eventually.. that is untill I build "The Machine" that I've been threatening to build for the past 3 months.

Also, Stanford U has released new information on the next generation of core:

GROMACS: The Next Generation

The best of Tinker and Gromacs

We are now developing a new core, which incorporates the capabilities of Tinker and Gromacs. In particular, we are adding the continuum solvent methods and computational drug design methodology we developed for Tinker. This should lead to the best of both worlds: the speed of Gromacs and the flexibility of Tinker. This will allow us to perform some radically new calculations, especially for protein folding, RNA folding, and drug design.

Look for a beta test of this new core in the coming weeks.

Basically the new Gromacs core wil replace the old Tinker and the beta Gromacs.

More info here.

Fun Update for Me:  I just passed the 4000 mark.  Hurray for me, and I'm off to 5000 now, and hopefully I'll make it into the top 100 at Rage3D..  :D

yeah, it does seem a little too easy, but that's all you have to do :bored: . just leave it alone.

in other news, majestik... what the.. how the... how many cpu's you got working for you!!?  :O  :wtf: it has to be more than 3, unless their 3 p4's

Yeah.  It's also my name that I use for all new forums now.  Sorta a weird name, but I kinda like it.  :)

Folding for Rage3D, huh?  You really are a f*cking fanboy!   The bloody irony that you don't support the team you created...  :p nah, j/k

Wow. After all this time and Im only on 160. That sux. lol.

You probably got a Tinker core.  Gromacs cores go much quicker and here's how to get more of them.

1 - Go to your startup folder, for example: C:\Documents and Settings\owner\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

2 - Right click on the [email protected] shortcut and select Properties

3 - Under the Shortcut tab, find the target line and add -advmethods to the end. it should then look like this: "C:\Program Files\[email protected]\winFAH.exe" -advmethods

4 - Reboot your computer so the program will be executed with the new tagline.

5 - Also, if you start the program from a desktop shortcut for example, make sure it also has the -advmethods tag in the target line.

So adding -advmethods to a shortcut, then executing the program with that same shortcut will get more Gromacs core WUs, thus, more points.  Majestik said it makes tinkers go slower, but it doesn't slow them down at all on my machine, so I don't know if that's true or not.

Your name will show up on the list about an hour after your first WU is completed and sent back to the [email protected] servers.  Yeah, all you have to do is let it run, but if ou want to make it run faster, follow my instructions that I listed a couple posts back.

@ ZERO - Basically, [email protected] is using your pc's idle clock cycles to run a code that simulates how a protien folds.  There are 2 different codes.  Each Work Unit is based on 1 of the 2 codes.

1 - Tinker core code - This is the older, slower code that will eventually be phased out.  This code runs faster on AthlonXP processors than it does on Pentium 4s.

2 - Gromacs core code - This is the new, fast code that works much better, especially on Pentium-based computers.  The Gromacs core was a beta untill just a few days ago.

Adding a special tag called -advmethods to the targetline in your [email protected] shortcuts will make the [email protected] program get more Gromacs cores than Tinker cores.

So if you want, add the -advmethods tag to your [email protected] shortcuts so you'll get more Gromacs cores.  Eventually, Tinker cores will be phased out, so the -advmethods should no longer be neccessary at some point.  In other words, Gromacs core will be the only code, hurray!  Tinkers suck!

DAMNIT! I just got a 70 pointer. On my linuxbox. Why must it be assigned to the 350MHz box, when I have a perfectly good 2.7GHz box?!?!

edit: I just checked via VNC, and my mom's 350MHz PC is doing the same WU! The 2 hugest WUs I've noticed are being done by the 2 slowest PCs in the house. Meanwhile the P4 at 2.7GHz is doing a 9-point WU.

I rather use [email protected]

Then go post on their forums.  Not here.  This isn't a place for you to talk about how much you don't love to cure cancer.

Off with you.

I worked out that it takes 27mins to do a Frame & currently I'm on 165/400 after exactly 1month so I'm lookin at 1half month's left WOO

P.S I've done the -advmethods

If you want to know exaclty how much time each frame takes, then get Electron Microscope III (EMIII).

1)  Download EM III here.

2)  Unzip EM III and copy the folder to C:\Program Files\[email protected]\ (or where ever you have [email protected] installed)  Also make sure everything was unzipped properly - you should see a "skins" folder in the EMIII folder.

3)  Open the EMIII folder and copy these 2 files into the [email protected] folder:  1 - speed.exe and 2 - EMGetCPUinf.dll

4)  Double click speed.exe.  A new file, speed.emd, will be created.  This tells you the make and speed of your processor in the program, but it's not always accurate.

5)  To configure EM III, double-click EMIII.exe in the EMIII folder.  You should see a configure panel.

6)  Under general info in the configure panel, find "box path" and click the computer icon next to it and browse for the following:  C:\Program Files\[email protected]\winFAH.exe  It might say it's the wrong one but just ignore it and click ok.

As for -advmethods, make sure you've added it to every shortcut you start the program from, including the shortcut in your startup folder, and execute the program with those shortcuts.  Otherwise it won't take effect and you'll just keep getting mostly Tinker cores.
