Missing Dialogue, Please Help If Possible

Okay So I've tried posting this on reddit but got no answers whatsoever, I heard the RDR2 reddit community wasn't the best but I tried. So I'm asking here. I have mentioned this issue in the Missing Hair thread before and probably a few others and some have said something similar to my issues but this hasn't something I've seen as widespread like the hair issues or the downgrade issues and so on. The main question I have really is does anyone else have these exact same issues and do you think deleting reserved space or even deleting and reinstalling the game is a good idea?

Okay so I've done 3 full playthroughs and multiple restarts. So the issue is when Arthur responds to certain conversations.

My first playthrough I didn't have this issue but my 2nd and 3rd and every restart I've done this has been an issue. Here are some examples below.

Chapter 1

Arthur asks John if he's still here, he should scratch himself to get a few days rest. Mary Beth replies saying whatever the beef between them is, now isn't the time.

When you Greet both John and Mary Beth back, Arthur is supposed to have lines saying sorry to John and Mary Beth, saying he was only playing.

Dutch asks Hosea to send someone to bury Sadie's husband. Arthur is supposed to have a line when greeting Hosea thanking him for doing that.

Chapter 2

Sean's Party has several lines where Arthur's Greets are not as they should be. Like when talking to Sean about his return, asking Kieren if she wants a drink while he's tied to the tree and tells him to get it himself.

Chapter 4 (SPOILERS)

Jack's Party Arthur is meant to have lines for everyone in camp regarding the party and Jack's safe return but those lines are all gone now.

SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!

After the mission Horseman Apocalypse Arthur is meant to have lines for every camp member regarding Kieren's death, everyone is upset and has a sad tone to their voice but Arthur is doing his usual lines like "How ya getting on" or "You drinking again" or "I better get on"

Chapter 6

There are several missing Greeting lines here as well.

I'm probably missing others but I feel my issue has been made clear. I previously thought this was an issue everyone has had but speaking to my friend who recently started a new playthrough said he hasn't had these issues I have had. I hoped the update today would fix it for me but no dice.

Any recommendations on what I should do? Could clearing my reserved data help that situation. I'm on Xbox One by the way. Does anyone else have this issue? t's honestly starting to feel like just me, I've not seen anyone mention this issue on the internet at all. As an OCD gamer this really bothers me. I thank you in advance any help you could provide.

I haven't read though all of this but isn't it possible that due to low honor you can't greet at certain instances?

HeyThereFriend

After several hours of testing things out, turns out it was one of my saves from one of my previous playthroughs making dialogue bugged for all future playthroughs.

I've been struggling with this same issue. The first time I played RDR2 I was amazed at all the reactive dialogue they bothered to put into the game, but something felt off while replaying it. It was only after completing Horsemen, Apocalypses and having bog-standard Greet responses (e.g. "Hey, Abigail." "Morning." or "Mr. Strauss." "Good morning, Arthur."), that it became really apparent there was just straight up missing dialogue.

Am I right to think you're on console @HeyThereFriend? I'm on PC, but I think the save structure is analogous regardless of what platform one's on. Can you share any specifics about what to change? I tried zipping up my save file and then deleting everything but the exact save I was on, but on reloading I still had the same problem, everyone being all sunshine as if nothing happened.

For what it's worth, for anyone else is having dialogue issues, this has only been a problem with using Greet on gang members after missions, where normally they and Arthur would talk about what had happened recently. I haven't had the issues others have witnessed where they struggle to experience conversations started by other gang members (i.e. the one's you can interrupt with "Not Now").

Any more info you can give me on resolving this would be great, @HeyThereFriend. Though at this rate I want to leave it alone until the DLSS update and hope that the relative complexity of setting that up would mean there'd be some more competent minds working on RDR2 again, rather than the de facto outsourcing they've been doing to milk RDO (and incidentally ruin storymode).

Yes I am on console. I have done months worth of testing and I have come to the conclusion is simply if you have at least one save from the Epilogue, then the Greet dialogue will not trigger. I noticed it a long while ago but wasn't sure, then same as you when I got to after Horseman Apocalypse I knew dialogue was missing.

Anyway this was long ago now, I don't expect this to ever get fixed. I'm not sure Rockstar even knows about it, I don't see much fuss on the subject for some reason. The only chance I see this getting fixed is with a Remaster for XSX and PS5, which I imagine PC might get some sort of free version.

Ultimately I didn't wanna delete my 100% save so I just made a second account and played the game again on there. I'll just delete the saved data every time I wanna play it again on the alt account.

Considering that the Epilogue is a broken mess that Rockstar keeps on breaking with every update, they couldn't give less of a sh*t unfortunately.

Well that explains a lot, I have 2 100% save files which I guess are the culprits, I'll try backing them up and deleting them and starting a new save to see if it fxes the missing dialogue

Then again, I think there is also some missing dialogue on the Epilogue since everytime I greet Jack, he seems to never answer me at all which I always thought was weird.

As far as I know the only solution is to delete all of your saves, relaunch the game, and then select 'story' from the main menu to start fresh. The game needs to remember which conversations you've had to avoid repetitions, but for some frustrating reason that data is saved for your entire profile rather than for each playthrough individually. So even when you start a new game it still thinks you've heard this dialogue before and it won't trigger. Getting rid of all saves tied to your account works like 9/10 times.

I'm wondering if it's possible to edit the specific game files related to this (for the pc version), basically reset the camp dialogue without erasing your progress, but I don't know enough about programming to figure that out.

Actually it doesn't even have to be an epilogue save. Just any greet dialogue you've had in any saved playthrough will no longer trigger for other playthroughs until you delete that saved data.

Edit: Turns out you can often fix this problem by simply closing out of the game and relaunching. If that doesn't work, you'll have to delete all saves beyond the point with missing dialogue. If that STILL doesn't work, on PC you can try deleting your local rockstar profile and then verifying your game file integrity on steam.
