Roman never called for bowling

Does the game hate me so much, my third playthrough and he still aint called yet. Fell like i don't deserve to play the game, why is this happening?

Yeah it's really quite rare. You get calls from 5 different friends for 7 different activities (plus 2 more for Brucie), plus calls from up to 4 (at a time) girlfriends to go on a date. And it doesn't happen nearly as often as people make out, during the storyline you can get it down to only being called a handful of times if you keep doing missions or other activities or are calling them to hang out yourself, it's only the down time between missions (and between other in game calls) that there's a chance of it happening. When someone does call to invite you out the odds of it specifically being that one of those 9 characters inviting you on that one of the 7 activities is really quite low and is statistically unlikely to happen a huge number of times.

 

I always hope for it when I see Roman calling but I can't even remember if it's ever happened to me. I only remember that when I'd just 100%ed the game on my first playthrough and wanted to celebrate by getting the bowling turkey achievement with Roman I called him to join me and he said no (must've gone bowling with him the last time we hung out) . See Roman will even turn down bowling!

 

The idea that it constantly happens or that it's more likely to be Roman calling or bowling being the suggested activity is a myth. The friend phone calls in general are considered to be too frequent by some people and Roman inviting you bowling just happened to be the example that got turned into a meme. Just have to wait for it to randomly come round the same as waiting for Packie to invite you for a game or darts or Little Jacob to invite you to go and eat etc, it's random.

I'm afraid your game is broken because if no one ever gets to experience our favourite cousin wanting to go bowling then life isn't worth living. Or plot twist you could call him to go bowling *Mind blown*.

 

in all seriousness I still get calls from him to go bowling from time to time, but as billiejoearmstrong8 said the calls don't happen anywhere near as often as they're made out to be. Infact I find the more you hang out with friends the less likely they're to call. I can sometimes be in free roam for ages without anyone actually calling.

Yeah like, I like hanging out with friends to hear all the dialogues so when playing through the game I call them a lot myself and it means they don't get much chance to call me. But when I reload from different saves just to play missions I can play for a few hours and never get a call. Another thing to add in the mix is sometimes instead of a call you get a text just complaining that you haven't hung out for a while - yet another thing lowering the chances of getting that Roman bowling call.

 

I find I get the girlfriends calling and texting more often. Often with Alex, Kiki and Carmen they'll all text or call me right after each other, sometimes right after a date with one or sometimes within moments of agreeing to a date so I have to choose which one to go out with and which one to cancel/say no to. I don't know if this is deliberate (to create the feeling that you're juggling three girlfriends at once, and to create a chance for the Kiki stalking you thing to happen) or not. The male friends keep it occasional though.

During the game , I just love hanging out with Packie and Jacob and listening to their story .

Man , especially the Packie's dialogues very well written by Rockstar .

R* Removed/Reduced bowling phone call from Roman in the last patches (1.0.7.0/1.0.8.0) because there was too many jokes about that back in 2010-2012. If your friends and Roman too doesn't call you this means that you ignored them in the beginning of the game or in the beginning of the friendship.

Over all these years I've played the game tons of times with all patches even one time without patches, don't believe me? Just downgrade your game to 1.0.3.0 and you will see. After the second mission with Jackob (to buy some calli... to shoot through the window...) Roman will call you to go bowling, in the last updates he will call for the american t$ts or to real experience of America (go to show), then through the all game he will offer for bowling but in the last updates he almost never call for bowling, I explained why.

Curious, I don't know much about the technical side of things but if I play an original GTA IV disc from 2008 on an Xbox 360 (and have never said yes to any downloads/updates) that patch wouldn't apply right? And I'm assuming the patches just reduced all friend phone calls in general? Because you really don't get more calls from Roman or for bowling than you do from any other friend for any other activity. I can't recall getting a bowling call from Roman (I might have once or twice but certainly not more frequently than any other call - drinking and strip club are most common since all friends do those activities) in the 9 months or so that I've been playing the game almost daily.

Funny, he never called me to bowl either, only for drinking, pool or American teetees.  

 

Kinda off-topic, but I never found the calls annoying, but I found 2 things kinda annoying:

-Roman calls you to hang out while you're in Acter and he spawns in South Bohan. If I don't have a fast car or bike then I barely make it on time and even if he complains that I'm late.

-If I arrange a hangout/date with someone, this doesn't stop other friends/GFs from calling me so I have to choose.

It would be fun if you could arrange hanging out with two friends at once. Some don't know each other, just imagine if you'd invite Brucie and Dwayne to hang out together. Or what would be even more epic, if you could pick up your girlfriends and friends together. For example you pick up Kiki and then you remind yourself you also initiated a hangout with Dwayne, so you also pick him up and the two fall for each other and Niko is left with nothing, haha.

Finally doing a Possible Trinity run and noticing Michelle calls a lot more than I remembered. Like every two three days. Roman has been pretty quiet, only once wanting to get drunk together.

I've always found this more annoying too. This is why later on in the story when Gerry's in prison and I want to hang out with Packie I usually hang around Alderney as it's almost a guarantee he'll be at the prison if I want to hang out. Fortunately the taxis help this some what and it would be a pain without them, but still it annoys me when they're in another borough most of the time.
