lollore
I have installed again GTA4 after playing it on my Xbox; because I saw some videos of a complete graphic overhaul. Although I had no luck whatsoever to make the most common ones to run on my W10 (latest patch and updates) machine. The textures pack works; although the game still look pretty outdated; so I tried some new shaders, but when I use either one, the screen flash and it is impossible to even see what is going on. The textures pack installed are "ultimate textures 2" and "lord neophytes HQ testure pack"; as far as shaders I tried Cry_envb3, G4BP graphics overhaul and ICE I believe. The only one that works is cry_enbv3 but the look is horrible, even using the super high presets (I have an i7 7th gen and a GTX1070 , 32 GB of RAM on my machine). The whole game is nothing like the video I saw; and I don't get exactly what is going wrong. While using G4BP shaders, the screen flash and it looks all weird, while the mouse cursor lag even when moving it in the title screen. I did try to use DX9 via rivatuner, but nothing did change; the game is still unplayable until I delete the dx9 dll file, which turn off the shaders. Does anyone have any luck running GTA4 with shaders and texture packs, on W10 on a modern machine? I tried all the various suggestions found on this forum, steam forum and other GTA sites but nothing seems to work, beside the texture packs. Weirdoutworld
Those ENB presets are only for older versions of GTAIV v4 or v7. The latest GTAIV v8 is compatible with "Excellent ENB". It looks great & is fairly new. Use that or downgrade your game. PS, v4 is where it's at if you want to mod.
lollore
Thanks, tried this one: https://www.gtainside.com/en/gta4/mods/119640-excellent-enb-graphics-v3-last-final-1-0-4-0-1-0-8-0/ It seems to work, but there are 2 major issues: when there are reflections from the sun, it looks like gold. pretty easy to see this if you are below the bridge close to the riviera area. And at night it is unplayable since the whole sky becomes like gold triangles that flash and sparkle. I tried to fix this by changing the settings in the enbseries.ini file, but it does not make any difference. I heard that 1.04 is the golden version for this game, but I tried downgrade and it was a pain to deal with social club and windows gaming thing that require an account; so I decided to stick with the steam version, that is 1.08 I believe, from what you said. Although can't find a single enb that works out of the box and looks nice
lollore
Got some more experimenting and was able to limit the issue to the sky itself. IF I turn off at night the sky, I get no sparkling sky. Although that seems to remove the lndirect light coming from the skybox, moon and stars, so it is not pretty to look at. I guess I have to accept that an old game like GTA4 has to be played on Steam, as vanilla. Spent like 3 hours to get the .4 moddable version to work on Steam, and it didn't work at all, so I guess it is fair to just give up

Not to mention the shaders are fairly crap, making everything look cartoony like Chinatown Wars.
Guest
I run two versions of the Steam version downgraded to 1.0.7, one running CryENB 3 and the other IceHancer 3. Make sure you install the xliveless mod and you won't have to worry about the awful GFWL and to play single player, the Rockstar account isn't needed. Downgrading to 1.0.7 is pretty straight forward, rename paul.dll to paul.old, run the official 1.0.7 installer, rename the new paul.dll to paul.new and rename the paul.old to paul.dll, that's it, that's the game downgraded. The post that info came from is here https://www.lcpdfr.com/forums/topic/72943-downgrading-gta-iv-gta-eflc-to-1070/ I run the game at 1920x1200, these videos are at 720p to keep the file size down. This is the iceHancer version This is the CryENB version The iceHancer version runs much better but has the night sky issues. CryENB runs at 30fps but has no night issues. Edit: I had Cry limited through ENB to 30fps, however, after just removing the limiter, it runs the same as iceHancer. Moochi
I've tried many different ENB's for 1.07 and most of them have severe issues with either extremely dark nights or ultra bright washed out days. Some versions like NGL Remastered and Cry V2.7 make the game unplayable while showing no visual improvement over versions that run silky smooth. Icehancer 2.1 for me ran smooth but exhibited major timecyc issues, extremely dark nights, and extreme over saturation of color. After testing many different ENB's, the only configuration that looked good and didn't have any major issues was Low-end Computer ENB + Liberty Timcyc v1 edited. Combined with BCT it looks fantastic and performance is excellent. I highly recommend trying these even if you have a high-end system. I only noticed one extremely small issue with this, which was the Taxi advertisement box glows a little too brightly, other than that it's perfect.
