Worst character in RDR2

Recommended Posts

GinsengElixir

What camp roles they play is a little irrelevant, don't you think? They all bring their own character and attributes to the camp and story, and hence have unique dialogues with Arthur.

Just because you imagined Van der Linde gang one way, doesn't mean that is how they're supposed to be. They're a family of societal outcasts - immigrants, alcoholics, drug abusers, minorities, killers, old people and prostitutes. They were a community.

The point was that they are a bloated group. Even Micah says there's dead weight and the women should be gotten rid of.

I'm not against the idea of a tighter group per se, however.

No, we must fight it. We cannot complain from the office chairs - we have to make our own content to combat it. Simple as.

Micah Bell

  • For being a totally reckless, combative, dishonest, dishonorable, and irascible hothead degenerate.
  • For being a lousy strategist whose overly risky strategy cost 3 of the Van Der Linde gang members their lives at the botched Blackwater heist.
  • For being a selfish asshat who couldn't be bothered to do the honorable thing and bury Jake Adler when Dutch requested him to.
  • For being the prick he naturally was by sleeping with Jenny and talking sh*te about afterwards.
  • For endangering Arthur's life at Horseshoe Overlook for murdering the O'Driscolls and getting thrown into jail. Then going on a shooting rampage through the town just so he could get his precious revolvers back. So he could murder an ex associate and his wife on his way out of town.
  • For lacking the fundamental understanding of the simple concept of honor among thieves.
  • For being a complete frigging psychopath from the day of his birth.

Micah Bell has not been missed at all.

Sadie is a weird one, because she’s obviously there to pander to modern game critics who will dunk on anything they see as anti-feminist. “Sadie fought braver than all of us...” we get it, Rockstar. She felt like some kind of corporate mandate. Alternatively, maybe she was the writers’ overreaction to the lack of capable female characters in GTA games.

Whatever the case, she becomes more interesting late in the game, where she confides in Arthur that she’s the way she is not because she wants to be, but because she’s overwhelmed with personal demons. Fast forward to the epilogue, and she’s even further gone. She’s more or less numb at this point, hardened and kind of sadistic. So I can’t really call her the worst character.

That (dis)honor goes to Micah. Even if he’s supposed to be this massive piece of human waste, why is he so dumb as to bully everyone around him 24/7? Wouldn’t any rational snake try to be friendly and charming? If Micah had been written as a character with a charming and friendly exterior, he would’ve been much truer to the worst scumbags everyone has to deal with in real life. He really should’ve either been nice but planning to screw everyone the whole time, or genuine at first but lured into betrayal by the promise of government money. The story would’ve been more relatable. The theme of companionship and loyalty would’ve been stronger. The theme of capitalism, which was essential to RDR1, would’ve actually had some place in RDR2 outside of just a few side missions.

Instead we get this character who’s such an obvious piece of sh*t that it’s as if the game is using him as a red herring before the real villain shows up. This never happens. He’s the bad guy. Surprise...? The gang isn’t driven apart by the tragic victory of greed over loyalty in a changing world, oh no, it just falls apart because one member happens to be an exceptionally terrible person. It’s actually baffling that the writers didn’t see the problem here. The massive missed opportunity.

I despise Micah, but not just for the reason we’re all supposed to.

Does no one else think Leopold Strauss is the worst because if he didn’t make Arthur do all them jobs then Arthur would’ve been able to kill Micah as he wouldn’t have been as weak

100% this. I hate when narrative makes love or hate that obvious. I feel treated like a kid.

He's as bad as anyone else. Probably didn't know Downes had TB either, otherwise wouldn't have stayed close to him. And ultimately he lends money with Dutch's approval.

I dislike Micah, not because I am supposed to dislike him from a story stand point but because there's no explanation to why he is such an annoying idiot ever since he first showed up in that cutscene near Colter, he should have been kicked out of the gang or killed based on his behavior, not be blindly trusted by Dutch (who's supposed to be smart or smater than others), by the later chapters I have already knew he is the punk we gonna be hunting down in the final mission, and it should not have been that obvious.

((From a story standpoint I hate him because he is a scum))

Sadie is weird, I get that they needed a tough female in the game but more development and involvement to Karen would have made her a way better tough female without changing much about her character structure, instead we get Sadie, one could try and justify her craziness by saying she lost her "life" and bla bla bla ... but she is as reckless as Micah was during some missions of the game for no reason other than to show that she "can run with the men"

She is way too much.

I like the camp, but it sounds as if the people that worked on it were in a different building than the ones that worked on the other parts of the game, where is the camp out in the game world and out of scripted missions? It's such a missed opportunity[/spoiler

I don't care what anyone says, I like Sadie, "girl powah" aside.

No character I'd really call the "worst", though some (like Karen and Josiah) felt underdeveloped and indistinguishable from others.

Reverend Swanson just sits there drunkly shambling around and ranting doesn't contribute sh*t to the group. At least the girls are interesting to talk too and bring you some leads but Swanson is just useless.Molly too a useless boring character that received no content or development other than being Dutch's girl.

I don't really mind Sadie she was the only one who had Arthur's back to retrieve Abigail so I like her for that but ,I do agree that her bloodlust can be a bit annoying at times like she could have just left the o Driscoll guys alone at colms hanging. Then again can you blame her for wanting the gang that ruined her life eradicated? I can't help but admit it's badass how she took that knife through the stomach too and still charged up a mountain. Despite all that I'd happily cut her so we can have more of Karen.

One does not simply vote a psychopath the vintage of Micah off of their island. Micah is one loose end you do NOT want to leave untied outside of your tribe.  Because Micah is the epitome of the proverb: "keep you friends close and you enemies even closer".

No. The order of progression is

1. murder him first. Then

2. kick him out. Then

3. leave him to rot 6 foot above ground.

4. Profit.
