What would you change in Vice City?

In every GTA, we love, hate, and do not care something. If we would be able to change something, what would you do?

In Vice City, a lot of people complain about the map, about the AI, about some characters and more. That's why mods and expansions are made by fanatics.

But let's say Rockstar spent two years developing the game. If so, a lot of things would have been better.

In conclussion, what would you change and modifie in this seventeen years old game? Let me know.

Two things mainly, the map size and story length.

My main issue with Vice City's map is the underwhelming western Mainland island. I would expand the Mainland part of the map to feature highways and larger city districts with a proper grid-like layout. I would as well add the Gator Keys south of Vice City, as they were mentioned by Avery in a cut audio file.

The story of Tommy taking over Vice City ended too soon, effectively already in Rub Out. I would extend the story by exploring Eugene and Moweesha's role as accomplices of Leo Teal, Avery Carrington's development of Shady Acres and by adding missions for Pastor Richards. I would also like to know more about Mr. Moffat, the mysterious character from Tommy's past.

Totally agree about the gator keys.

 

Bigger Map,Pastor richards,more guns,

Intro (bigger one)

 

Other than that the game is very complete and it's by far in my opinion the best gta out there

I'd like the game to be larger. I just completed it 100% for the second time and I took me less than a month (and I do not play to often). I wish the game's history to be larger by, obiously, adding more and well done missions, with cooler cinematics; with more good and well developed characters.

In the other hand, when enlarging the map, you enlarge the history. If Rockstar would have taken more time to develop the game, Vice City would be even better nowadays.

- Ability to swim. and also make it easier to enter boats

- Ability to move around while crouching and to vault over obstacles

- Add more districts between between Little Haiti and Downtown, also as has been said adding Gator keys would be cool as well

- Add more street races. Initially I thought they couldn't add more but then VCS managed it so I think it would've been nice to see a few more races here as well

- Ability to change all outfits in the safehouse itself rather than going to different places for different outfits

- Trim the size of the beach, or atleast have a side mission there like beach patrol in VCS

- Add a couple more gangs, maybe a cartel even

- More prominence to characters like Mercedes ,Leo Teal and Earnest Kelly

-I would draw out Tommy figuring out it was Diaz behind the deal much further into the story because it happens way too soon as the rest of the story feels like twiddling thumbs until Sonny arrives. 

 

-Only a small thing, but I would've loved drinking especially at The Malibu Club.

I would give Vice City a more square roads network like in the other cities so you don't always need to take the same itinerary to reach your destination with the speed bonus.

I would allow Tommy to severe the arms and legs like in 3

I would give the bikes a smoother handling like in San Andreas so Tommy doesn't fall off everytime he hits something

I would make Tommy swim

I would expand the city and add the everglades with some villages to play the paramedic sub-mission

I would add the ability to conquer Little Haiti with the Haitians regularly trying to take back the area.

I would add the shoulder aiming and allow Tommy to walk while aiming like in San Andreas

I would increase the minigun's range, allow the player to behead his enemies with it and make it destroy the helicopters a quick and realistic way like in San Andreas

I would add a police bike to play the vigilante sub-mission

I would give the hunter a crosshair in the subjective view so the ability to shoot warheads becomes worth it

I would give an interior to every safehouse, replace the skumhole shack by a true safehouse and make the Starfish Island mansion look like a real millionaire's house instead of that junkyard filled with hallways.

I would allow Tommy to collect all his income at once via strongboxes you would have in every safehouse.

I would expand the missions' set with Diaz, make Tommy kill Moweesha and Eugene, add some missions with the Leones and Sindaccos to justify Sonny's inaction against Tommy, add some missions with the SWAT retaliating after El Banco Corrupto Grande's robbery and add Mr Moffat's mission.

I would make Tommy aid the wounded through heart-massaging and defibrillators like in Saints Row 2

I would add the ability to choose the bloodring's length
 

I probably forgot some things.

Pretty much what everyone else said expand the story start off with a young Tommy being sent to kill the guy in Harwood could be the tutorial for moving shooting and driving

 

Get rid of the voodoo stuff maybe auntie poutlet offers an alliance and tommy accepts till they try to betray him

 

Bigger and more interesting beach area 

 

Ability to recruit vercetti gang members SA style

That's honestly a pretty interesting concept, I don't know how well a pre-story introductory game/mission would work but a cinematic detailing of Tommy's history akin to GTA3's intro would have been interesting and definitely set the pace for the rest of the game.

 

For things I would change, it's probably more minor details than anything else. The Skumole shack always kind of bothered me, just seems like an odd property choice that far into the game. Some of the interiors could've used some work, the Ocean View hotel is a great interior with a good level of depth but the rest is pretty boring - the size of the Vercetti Mansion would lead you to think it'd have some interesting areas but in reality it's essentially just two rooms and a sh*t ton of staircases. Those apartment buildings used for apartment 3c or just any of the buildings in that vicinity would have made for a great safehouse, or even if some of the existing safehouses had interiors such as Links View, Ocean Heights Apartment or 1102 Washington as they'd provide a great aerial view of the city. 3321 Vice Point always struck me as an odd safehouse as iirc there's no real mission strands up there and it just seems like a weird place for a safehouse. Another idea I've thought of (and that has somewhat been made by modders) would be a marina safehouse with the ability to save cars in the underground garage, and potentially dock a boat.

 

Map design/layout is a topic that comes up frequently and I've already detailed my thoughts on that in other threads but hey, what do you expect when a games churned out in a year.

I f*ckin hated that place too, especially since there were no garages or parking lots. Like what, do the people who live there not own cars??? Dang!

I don't think nitro in Taxis would be useful. In San Andreas, the map is bigger. Meanwhile, in Vice City, there are not a lot of spaces to use it properly.

Depends on the area you're in really, if you look objectively at both main islands they're essentially both one main roadway and having nitro would make heading from one side of the city to another considerably quicker, plus crossing over bridges etc. Wouldn't be as helpful in the small, denser areas of the city but for those long clear shots that turn up frequently it'd be a welcome boost.
