Saints Row characters that would make great GTA characters

Recommended Posts

Which characters from Saints Row would make great characters in GTA if it was like an alternate universe where they were retcon and born in the GTA multiverse instead of the Saints Row Multiverse?

I really would love to see Dane Vogel and the influences of Ultor in Los Santos or something! That could be cool and they team up with the IAA or FIB or something. This is especially true with the way GTA Online is heading!

The Saints Row protagonist could replace the GTA Online protagonist for actually having a voice and also better character customization options. I don't really care about others, I neither like the direction of GTA Online or the Saints Row franchise after the 2nd game.

I know I'm mainly refering to the first two games and am not really a fan of GTA Online being the new Saints Row 3

Julius even if he did betray the the main character I loved him as the leader of the Saints. I could see us doing some missions for him.

Alderman Hughes would have been a better replacement for Devin Weston. He played the big evil powerful guy with money and connections that could kill you so well.

So did Dane Vogel though I kinda found him annoying.

That reminds me I would also love to see Chief Monroe and see his impact of Los Santos!

Especially after he got shot in the leg and had to wear a leg brace

Even if SR2 had more features. I still love SR1 I think what hurt it was that it was only a 360 exclusive at the time. There's a bunch of stuff from SR1 that didn't make it to SR2 that I missed.

Don't really care much for Saints Row after Saints Row 2 (the best alternative to GTA made in my opinion, and then I don't what happened lol). I would agree on Dane Vogel  being in there but can't really think of anyone else. One thing about Saints Row 2 and I suppose all of them when you remove the shenanigans, all the characters never seemed to be ripped from GTA especially in the second game where even the gangs were different despite Saints being purple and Samedi being green.

I suppose the Brotherhood may be suited to a GTA game more than the others in my opinion, but even they are a vast difference to the GTA way.

Troy Bradshaw.

I don't think we've had an undercover cop in GTA before -- just references to them.

Michelle from GTA4 is the closest thing but she didn't actually partake in criminal activities with you.

Someone who works alongside you, is with you for most of the game and then turns out to be a cop would have been interesting in any of the games.

Johnny Gat, as people previously mentioned.

And Julius (in SR1, i haven't played SR2) is a better version of Sweet.

And I don't really get the hate SR3 and onwards get here at the forums. I totally had a blast while playing it. Sure, it's no GTA; the city is not nearly as memorable, but it's still an awesome game.

I'd go with Dane Vogel too. Gotta say, SR2 nailed him as the main antagonist. He's a dickface corporate owner, a character like him would suit maybe in a reboot of Anywhere City and he would be the boss of the Zaibatsus.

To a certain extent Shaundi is the female equivalent of Mr Truth my favorite GTA character and she's my favorite character from SR2 the only Saints row I ever played. She would be a very good supporting character.

I had a lot of fun with 3 and got 100 percent multiple times to see the different voices dialogue

but my main problems are the on disc dlc, trying to kill off gat till fan reaction brought him back and lazily putting activities as story missons and the city being lifeless and generic compared to Stillwater

I honestly thought Stilwater was just as lifeless as Steelport. One thing I liked about Steelport over Stillwater was the dystopian city vibe. Like all of the transportation networks are not working and rail bridges are broken and the constant construction scenario that spawns. It feels really fitting for a open world crime game. It did feature a lot of copy paste, but I think that's to be expected from a developer with a much less of a budget than Rockstar. SR3 feels like a 3D GTA2 to me and SR2 felt like a bad version of SA with a crap ton of performance issues.

OT; Benjamin King, Pierce, Shaundi, Dane Vogul, Phillipe Loren, Asha Odekar

Really? SR2 Stillwater had a lot of life to me you had cheerleaders practicing, students handing out fliers you could pick up, pimps attacking everyone and ladies tanning at the marina just to name a few examples. Steelport peds were weak and just walked around not doing anything.

Surprisingly enough, the extra crazy stuff ISN'T what bothers me. What bothers me most is the HUGE amount of features that downgraded from the second and even first game. Here's a short list:

Spoiler

No pickable items

No quick throwing

Only 1 choosable walking style

MUCH less weapons

MUCH less ped diversity (I'm not joking, there are  only one cop model with three different variations: Glasses, No glasses, black skin)

MUCH less diversity in terms of sity

Smaller city

Less quality in the city in general

Less stuff to climb in SR3

Infinite gear shift bug

MUCH less action nodes (the stuff npcs do at certain spots to act like real people ex. smoking, sitting down, spooning with a couple, dancing, yoga, singing, playing intstruments, yard sales, etc)

No multiplayer matches

MUCH less activities

No secondary or intermediate hair color options

MUCH less clothes

MUCH less clothing options (like layered clothes that you can tuck, roll, change style etc at will)

Activity unlockables

No video games

No explodable oxygen tanks npcs carry

MUCH less easter eggs

MUCH MUCH MUCH more bugs (seriously in Saints Row 3, 4, and Gat Out Of Hell you have like a 20- 25% chance of dying for entering a car for no reason. Not just me I see it in other play throughs too!)

The ability to go to single wield to dual wield to back to single wield with a click of a button not in SR3 (or any SR not 2 for a matter of fact)

No food

No drugs

No day and night cycle (some of the most embarrassing sh*t I ever seen in gaming history)

Random Npcs fighting over dumb stuff and looking crazy while doing it

No SR2 style pimps or even SR1 style pimps

Weapons sound weak as hell in SR3 and on wards

MUCH less interiors

LAZY ASS melee weapon animations all doing the same thing

The boss doesn't interact with the world NEARLY ass much as he does in SR2 (randomly singing to different songs, joining NPC action nodes, Commenting differenlt on sutff if you got a gang, no gang, what type of car you got, what you ate, etc.)

MUCH MUCH better difficulty in SR2 (you can still take out like 100s of enemies like the future games but can actually be taken out by just 1 npc if you weren't careful)

MUCH smarter npcs in the first paired SRs (in 1 they will move around and try to dodge bullets along with flanking you while in 2 they would try to run you over and use non lethal weapons to get you away from your human shield)

Cops actually busting you

Better diversion system in 2

Tagging in 1 and 2

CD collecting in 1 and 2

The ability to purchase Music and more stores in general in 1 and 2

Better robbery system in 1 and 2 (SR1 even had pawn shops to deliver to)

Every Gang hideout/safehouse was different in it's own ways in 1 and 2

More purchasable houses in 1 and 2

MUCH MUCH more safehouse customization in 1 and 2

Customizable tags in 1 and 2

You can customize you gang MUCH better (what they drive and wore) in 1 and 2

Better radio and TV system in 1 and 2

Your gang actually spawning to help you in 1 and 2 (ESPECIALLY in 1)

Better hangout activities with friends in 1 and 2

More friends in general in 1 and 2

Better meaningful main title screen in 1 and 2

HUD actually shows gang health in 1 and 2

And that was just a few in terms of gameplay (still more just can't think of them off the top of my head), I haven't even GOT to the story yet. Also it's worth noting that even VOLITION knows their downgrades and plays Saints Row 1 and 2 from time to time for features not present in the future games...

Never had any bugs with SR3 and IV. I've had a few glitches, but those are just that and hardly worth complaining about. SR3/IV have been very smooth for me compared to SR2. I'd rather take a game with less features but can actually get 60 fps, than a game with much more features but hiccups and struggles to get 25 fps even on top-of-the-line hardware.

The music stores got cut because it wasn't 2005 anymore and it doesn't really make much sense to force people to buy the soundtrack at an in-game store with game money in a digital age where the vast majority of music is streamed online or bought digitally.

Deep meaningful title screen? Is such a subjective thing that it doesn't even count.

Food is kind of pointless in a game that gives you regenerative health.

1. Must be talking about PC because on Console this don't happened to me

2. I like the immersion of just having it to be honest I even did a bunch of role play with it. I mean by that logic you don't really need radios in game but you know

3. Saints Row 1 showed different shots of Saints Row while Saints Row 2 showed all the shots of gang territories you take over in a specific order while also showing off newly designed areas as well subtly while Saints Row 3 and above just showed random shots but I agree I over exaggerated it lol

4. Oh trust me food saved my life a WHOLE BUNCH of times. Also just like the second thing i said, I also like the immersion of having it and watching my character buy and eat from it.

With those aside do you agree with my main points?

Good spot. I'd forgotten about him.

I would like a character that lasts more than two or three missions though -- and someone who doesn't give up their cover the moment someone points a gun at them. Wasn't Troy only revealed as a cop at the very end?
