EDITING - GTA : VICE CITY...

WHAT!?

Recommended Posts

Yeah I know this is a bit premature I mean the PC release is still a month off but I had some questions I figured maybe I could get them settled here based on what we know about GTA3.  So here it goes...

1.) Is it possible to delete Vice City COMPLETELY off of the map and put Liberty City in it's Place?

2.) If the answer to question 1 is yes, then can we edit the main.scn to add all the Bikes, Planes, and Helicopters to the GTA3 Main.scn and use it for the Liberty City that we placed in the Vice City engine? while still keeping all of the Liberty City Missions in place?

Maybe I should explain myself about now.  I like all of the sweet new vehicles Vice City has... I like the updated renderware platform, I personally Don't like the city all of this resides in  :/   My plan is  Once I get the PC Version I will Install 2 copies of Vice City on my system, one that is Original and one that has Liberty City in it.... If I can get Liberty City to work inside the Vice engine with all of the cars, bikes, ect...  Then I will simply delete my GTA3 and this New version of Liberty City in Vice will be my functonial copy of GTA3

- ok I know this is a little weird but do we have any thoughts?

probably won't work because of the games "instructions" from the map

Yes but the "instructions" come from the main.scn file located in the GTA3/Vice Data directory... If you use the GTA3 City and put it on the map in the Vice City engine at the exact same cordinates I think it would work... the difficult thing I belive will be getting all the new cars, bikes, planes, helicopters, and peds to work.  - we basically have to figure out how to merge some of the Vice City .DFF and .TXD files with the ones from GTA3, we also have to figure out how to either program the GTA3 missions into the Vice Main.scn OR figure out how to add the cars and all the other good stuff to the GTA3 Main.scn file.  we will probably have to change the modles, data, ect... directories so that they match GTA3

You would have to do alot, but it shouldnt be impossible. The main problem, as mentioned before, is getting the gta3 .DFF files to load into VC, and by looking at the ps2 version, they will NOT be the same. Once this has been accomplished however, you should be able to add new parked cars and hideouts into the gta3 main.scm, and re-compile it to work with the VC.exe. Might need to change some of the model names too. Like the kuruma, which isnt in VC, would have to be re-named to a car that IS in VC. Oh and the text (.gxt) files looks like they'll need converting as well.

I hope it works, cause i plan to do it too :p

Suction Testicle Man

I am so excited about all of this stuff :pp Personally I can't wait to fix myself up with a black PCJ600 and piss about on that! Think how much GTA3 modding has advanced in the past year, all the new cars! Now people will make 80's cars - well I will!

- Dya think we'll be able to make every building possible to buy?

- What about adding a skimmer with wheels (which can be changed to an f16 with missiles taken from the hunter?  :inlove: )

- We'll be able to fiddle around with Tommy's clothes that are available at Raphael's and other places. He can have the damn cool Mr.Vercetti all the time! (Instead of Mimi shirt).

I'm soooooo excited :nervous:  :pp  :r*:  :r*:

If at first you don't succeed, you fail, and the test will be terminated.

Yeah thats my point I want to rip up Liberty with all the cool shiz Vice has!  (may need to model roof tops for the Liberty City buildings though)  I just got a PM from Barton Waterduck about this... coding wise he doesn't belive that it's possible.  So that kinda turns me off from it because the guy is so damn good at coding but....  I am still gonna try  :p lol

Well i believe the border line (Invisable wall) are in the same postion as it was in GTA3 which means the coords is not a problem.

We basically have to figure out how to merge some of the Vice City .DFF and .TXD files with the ones from GTA3

The VC DFF and txd  files should be coded the same way GTA3 on PC was. I am like 93% sure.

I'll said many times that the cars are Hardcoded in the exe Not the scm.

Also don't forget that we could be able to add paths in this game time will tell

Hardcoded in the .exe?  - well that maybe ok because (if the tools work for vice) we could use the IMG and TXD Tool to just edit the cars in the IMG and TXD files to be the ones from GTA3 and it would not be to hard to change the text lines with the GXT Editor.

Isnt Vice City Bigger? That would mean that it has a bigger building space. SO couldnt it be possible to add stauton island by the military base, were ther is alot of open water.

We could just import the hole island useing kcows editor. I really dont think that car paths and ped paths will crash it.

I think,if its done, it will probably be diserted. unless you some how enable the paths that are alredy there.

About adding cars>

Dont you think R* would give you enough sapce to add all the cars that LC hadd to offer withount having to replace the original once? Maybe the same for the peds.

Will you have to use the same mod programs that you used in GTA3? Or will they come out with a whole bunch of new ones?

Yeah Vice is a lot bigger...  I want to use all of the information from the GTA3 main.scm if I can... maybe intergrate it with the Vice file so it will work just like the original GTA3 but with all the cool Vice city stuff.  but it is going to be hard to get around the hardcoded stuff that aperantly lies in the .exe file.   I think this will be hard to do but I think it can be done.

@four 20 - I dunno about the editiors... I am hoping the same ones we use now will work with Vice

The game world is the same size, but everything is smaller, giving the illusion of a larger world. For GTA3 parts to work, they would have to be scaled down to about 50% of their original size. And for space for mods, have you noticed the HUGE ammount of water east of Ocean Beach before the border? You could easily fit another full sized (Vice City) island there!
