There are still the same level of complaints when you steal CEO cars from people doing I/E.

There are even accusations of griefing when you engage players who fire up Headhunter, Stand Your Ground, Piracy Prevention, Torched etc. I had a load of abuse the other day from a player playing Headhunter who was crying "Why are you killing me? f*ck Off. This is my mission"

The element of PvP inherent to those game modes particularly is lost on them. I have lost count how many times I have won at one of those games only for the CEO / MC leader to quit in temper before the payout can be made.

To be honest, this is a point often lost on newer, or perhaps more isolated players who haven't frequented densely populated sessions.

Many money guides offer Headhunter as one of the elements in acquiring currency efficiently, and perhaps they don't see it as particularly adversarial, I know I didn't in the past, I just saw it as a way to boost my income between I/E jobs, etc.

That it's accepted as a way to take on others without the insurance penalty could easily be completely unknown, as in my case.

Now I know, it's one of the reasons I only play solo, not to mention that hogging the VIP work could be considered pretty unfair to others, so I choose to do it on my own.

That it's universally accepted as fact by the community may well not be apparent to all players if they've only been playing invite only or solo, they wouldn't see the opposing notification.

Although, after the VIP work is done, if a player follows his 'adversary' around for an hour killing him repeatedly, I'd consider that griefing.

Once the job's over, go your separate ways, it happens in RDR all the time apparently.

Just putting that out there that not every player has the same level of knowledge of what's 'standard behavior' as assumed by long time players.

Not pointing a finger at you personally in any way, this is just a convenient place to interject an opinion.

That is exactly what I do, and if they haven't quit I'll send them a "gg" message or offer to help them next time as a bit of a consolation (Although I do this less frequently as that is when the pestering starts because I am a high rank)

I think they should have structured things more like Business Battles, it would make more sense in the general context of GTA.

Stealing I/E cars is the epitome of GTA!

Blowing stuff up is not.

Maybe there should also be a high rank set of sessions available, where players know better than to just kick without reason.

I don't have a grudge against assholes. There's always assholes, there's nothing I can do about that. The problem goes beyond you.

And I've never been seriously griefed by anyone, just so you know.

this is one of the most common things that brings on a murderous rampage from me and my friends...   when some other CEO or MC manages to interrupt my hogging of the VIP work--by sneaking one of their own in there somehow, i mean, not by coming after my Boxville or my yacht, or whatever.    we like that.     dominating the lobby with an endless string of zero-cooldown moneymakers is my favorite way to pass the time and not get my full bunker and NC raided.    somebody fights us, i try to hire them--especially if they fight well.   because i very much like sharing the wealth and having a powerful team.    that guy that sneaks a Headhunter in there is gonna make a hell of a lot more by joining us than by hovering over the interaction menu waiting for his chance.

this sort of thing is also a great way to keep tabs on whether the lobby is friendly or not.   doing it nonstop is sort of like keeping your eyes moving on the mirrors while you're driving on the freeway.     when you're running jobs over and over and nobody's chasing you, and everybody else is making sales and not killing each other, everybody wins.

when the opposite is true, somebody has to lose.    repeatedly.    and brutally.   until they leave.

i don't call that griefing.    i call that defending what is mine.    and if i'm in a lobby, as far as i'm concerned, it's mine.

Exactly, if there is a group of people running VIP and MC missions (works best if they're running missions that take a while like piracy prevention and stand your ground) I use that as a perfect time to sell my cargo, especially if half the lobby is fighting against them. They're happy and making money and I'm happy making money; everyone wins.

If there is a group running these missions back to back, I don't bother trying go sneak one in myself, I let them be and go find another lobby to run my own missions

I haven't. Early on I would grind contact missions and I learned that the game actually ran ok when going into private sessions, I haven't played seriously in public lobbies in almost 5 years, I did do a small stint with the gtaf crew, but i hated playing in public lobbies.

Meh.. so are when are we gonna agree that there will never be peace between grinders and griefers. No matter what both sides says both size are wrong and they're also right in somethings.

Tbh I think the game would be boring if everyone played this like it was SIMS. But I also think sometimes griefers need to take a chill pill and leave people alone.

Pretty much. Most online games, even Rdro, try to cut down on griefing and try to keep the player base peaceful. Threads and arguments like this exist only because R* refuses to try to control what is probably the most chaotic online game out there. Assholes will be a effective as the devs let them be, and these guys just keep giving them faster, more deadlier tools.

The problem came to existence in the first place because R*, in their infinite lack of wisdom, decided to mix two wholy different groups of players (PvE and PvP) into the same space and not only that, they put them against each other to the detriment of both of them.

This mess is mostly R* fault.

That I can agree on.

To get things in line, PvP does have it's place in the game; it's crime and competition, after all. (...taken slightly too far)

The typical griefer/tryhard/outsider is very much likely to take it out of hand than where the line should be drawn. Freemode has turned into an absolute sh*tshow, which, in turn, motivates me more to participate in some actual, dedicated, old-fashioned, separate player vs. player gamemodes.

Except that you didn't explain anything, you're just bragging about how much of a nuisance you are to other players.

This thread is for discussing what can and cannot be considered griefing, not to stroke your ego.

You're way off the mark and a bit behind the times, I'm afraid. This thread is a discussion about griefing in general, including the merits and non-merits of such activity. Feel free to post away, but a part of me suspects that you're enjoying this in much the same way that you enjoy freemode. Honestly, if you can't discuss the pros and cons, and come to some sort of balanced opinion then you're not going to get much respect, likes or welcome in this thread.

I'm not sure what you mean by the bolded, but as I stated earlier, I have literally almost unlimited money so it's no point in me doing regular missions. I'm left with either griefing or staying in private lobbies with friends. I've actually been doing this for the past week because we're filming a TV series for youtube and throw parties/carshows.

Griefing itself gets boring after about an hour or two and I usually never go after low level players because they are too easy. Sometimes i'll even help low level friends make money if i'm very bored.

Some of the earlier posts considered blowing up cargo/biker/club promotion as griefing, to me it's not griefing because the game alerts us to said activities and tells us to either destroy or steal it, and if they didn't want us to do it then we wouldn't be given rewards for doing so.

Actual griefing is killing the same person over and over or using extremely dirty tactics.

That's really some childish behavior. Bragging about your kills antagonizing others this is exactly what tryhards do when they texts Lzzzz then continue to blow themselves while antagonizing others any further. People you are not in the game so there's no need to act like a tryhard on the discussion.

I've stated earlier that I grief purely for the entertainment it causes, and because I have nothing else to do on the game. I've tried to be serious in my last reply, but at the end of the day I only view GTA Online as strictly a game; and so I can only take it but so serious.

Oh boy, are we going off-topic here?

To be fair it was kind of inevitable, given the thread title, but I'm willing to give it one more chance and let things move on.

Off-topic posts from anyone will result in them being removed from this point forwards and also be considered for naughty step time.  If things carry on as the way they are though, we'll have to consider this thread as no longer viable.

Please, play nice.
