I've already prepared myself for the eventually that RDO will probably be the last R* online game, maybe the last online game, I fully participate in. I should be R*s target audience, I've bought every R* title, some multiple times, peripheral merch around multiple titles, I have disposable income and more spare money than spare time. I'm not interested in flavour of the week fads, I want to immerse myself in expansive game worlds and gameplay. But, sadly, R* would seemingly rather pander to under age gamers in their mature rated titles than actual mature gamers. I'll still purchase R* games for their single player content, but, as I alluded to, as far as VI goes, with GTAO and RDO in mind, I can't see how VI Online (or GTAO 2, however it's named) will be in any way an enjoyable experience when I'm a 40+ year old gamer. It's sad because parts of these games are, as we all know, absolutely brilliant and there are many a reason as to why we've been fans of this studio/these studios for so long and with such commitment. Instead of looking forward in anticipation to what's to come during the next 10 years, I feel like I'm more and more starting to look at other developers when it comes to making groundbreaking experiences for us players. R*'s direction and their actions doesn't get me very excited at all at the moment, and hasn't for a good while. That may be true in the short term, but not long term. No one is untouchable. At least not from my perspective. I'm an avid sports fan, bought EA games year in, year out. Now I won't touch an EA game with a barge pole. The same happened with Sports Interactive after their mistreatment of the Football Manager series. The same again with another Take 2 subsidiary, Firaxis (and 2k Games for that matter), after releasing Civilization games, which I had bought religiously, in stripped down, incomplete states, solely to sell DLC content further down the line. GTAO was, and continues to be, a fluke. Of course VI will sell in huge quantities, but how many bridges are R* burning with their treatment of GTAO, RDO and the players of both? If they carry on down the route they are currently on it's far from impossible that they will suffer the same fate as developers such as EA. If GTA VI is set in let's say 1989 (man that would be cool), R* would have more stuff available on launch so it wouldn't feel as empty as RDO, even if it launches as a BETA. I'm a bit different with GTA. I can have fun just getting into battles in free mode. I don't have a rebreather though or anything like that, really a different type of PvP player to the usual ones - hate to sound full of myself but it's true. It's kind of ruined somewhat for me though. They've made it so one-sided that any free mode battle is always the same. Just people on broomsticks, orbital cannons, that kind of thing. Even if you outsmart people with that stuff, you're still playing the same battle over and over. All the variety is gone. That's one of the main draws of Red Dead for me. Even though I don't have my helicopters - at least there aren't space cannons and floating bikes. Yet anyway. Weirdly enough though, I don't do any PvP in free mode on this game. Only when I'm attacked and have to. Other than that it's just in showdowns. I've had a few people shooting me in the back as I spawn lately though, so that's started a few fights. I’m still surprised they never made North Yankton playable in GTAO (in a legit way). They should also add activities from SP to make it feel more alive.
