Wildlife of Mexico

Recommended Posts

I’m not alone when I say I yearn for Nuevo Paraiso to return. I perhaps AM alone in my obsession of what animals would appear, should our New Paradise return. With Redemption 2’s expansion of wildlife, one can only conclude a potential Mexico expansion would have the same love and care applied to our digital furry friends. I have compiled a list of species we could expect, based on the critters of the Chihuahuan desert.

Western diamondback
Sonoran sidewinder
Rock rattlesnake
Black tailed rattlesnake
Mojave rattlesnake
Massasauga
Mexican wolf
Cougar
Coyote
Great horned owl
Barn owl
Burrowing owl
American Kestrel
Gould’s wild turkey

rio Grande wild turkey
Desert mule deer
Mexican pronghorn
Kit fox
Grey fox
Black tailed jackrabbit
White sided jackrabbit
Bobcat
Greater Roadrunner
Collared peccary
Desert bighorn
Gila monster
Desert iguana
Desert jaguar
Mexican prairie dog
Antelope squirrel
Mexican ground squirrel
Hog nosed skunk
Hooded skunk
American badger
Desert red bat
Mexican freetailed bat
Tamaulipas crow
Chihuahuan raven
Desert cardinal
Black vulture
Turkey vulture
Mallard duck
Blue winged teal
Cinnamon teal
Gambel’s quail
Golden eagle
Common nighthawk
Northern harrier
Sharp shinned hawk
Harris hawk
Ferruginous Hawk
Red tailed hawk
Prairie falcon
Ringed kingfisher
Gila woodpecker
Loggedhead shrike
Horned lark
Rock wren
Canyon wren
Western bluebird
Western kingbird
Phainopepla
Raccoon
Desert toad

as we can see, a large number of them are also seen in New Austin. As one would expect. But there are plenty of Mexico-unique species, with a particular emphasis on birds. The Chihuahuan desert’s most abundant non-insect fauna are of the avian variety. The idea of a desert being a barren wasteland couldn’t be further from the truth; deserts can be more vibrant and ecologically diverse than savannahs and montane woodland.

What I find even more interesting is there’s a few plants that ONLY are used in Mexico. There’s a few palm species, and I think agave. I haven’t been able to explore it first-hand to catalogue them all.

I just started a Bandido Posse to coincide with RDR2 Mexico. Anyone want to join?

I'd be very down with new animals and variants (as well as having Butterfly Weed/Prickly Pear/Blue Wooly Curl plants return)

What I find funny is why Rockstar thought it’d be a great idea to remove the bridges to Nuevo Paraiso. It feels weird not seeing them in game. They could’ve put invisible walls on the bridges so the players couldn’t get across.

Invisible walls are just awkward in terms of game design. They've put in a lot of effort to create the most realistic and in-depth game of all time... invisible walls on a bridge would stick out in a very awkward way. I think an under-construction bridge would have made more sense.

I know technically Mexico does not have any wildlife but if you glitch there you might be able to see some small birds flying across and sometimes ravens pass through El Presidio which is really cool considering it being a prison.

certain parts of Mexico you can sometimes hear coyotes, it’s very random/brief and usually on the southern most ends of Diez Coronas (by the giant slip walls) I’m not sure if it’s background ambience or a quick spawn. It’s not like the barking dogs.

Is it true that they updated Mexico post launch as well? Like maybe vegetation or texture?

I’d like to get a comparison. It seems like the areas around Escalera look better, but it could just be a placebo.
