How To Play In Public Lobby Solo?

I know i am behind the times in this and there are a few strategies online which i cannot get to work, but does anyone have a fool proof method of playing online in a solo public lobby?

On PS4 change mtu to like 700-800. On x1 I think you have to do a NAT check or something and idk about PC.

 

If you state your platform it would help because there are different methods for each.
