Well, State Of Play confirmed, this Thursday at 11pm BST. Seems set on that Ragnarok for PC will be confirmed and given a date, and highly likely the new Astro game will feature too.

Concord will be the one I'm most interested in, along with Ragnarök PC. There's supposed to be an Until Dawn remake as well, but it's not something that strikes my fancy at all.

Ragnarok PC's announcement is said to be imminent now, there was another update from bilbill saying anytime now pretty much and give they're a dataminer/website scraper from what I can tell, I'm guessing that means they've spotted promo material somewhere, so it could be at the show as a quick announcement.

Be interesting to see if there's any new announcements or reveals beyond that, it feels a bit last minute for any big announcements to drop.

I'm not massive on Monster Hunter, but it looks like they're gearing up for a second trailer for MHW, so an expected gameplay trailer tomorrow, maybee? Oh, and the franchise is currently on a Steam sale as well, perfect timing lol.

At least they increased the car amount this time, no new tracks still...

World was my first introduction to the series, having given it a go cause an old friend was a long time fan of the series. World + Iceborne is now easily one of my favourite games ever now and I can't wait for Wilds tbh. It's sitting at the top of my Steam wishlist and the only way it'll get displaced is if R* put GTA VI's Steam page up before it releases.

If you liked Dragon's Dogma 2's combat then Monster Hunter combat is that but with like a dozen or so games of iteration and perfection, with way better enemy and locale variety. Similar progression too, killing specific enemies for parts, chopping off tails, breaking parts etc. Again though, lot more depth.

And looking at how well World did and with Wilds on PC day 1 I think Wilds will be one of the biggest games out next year, beaten probably only by the usual suspects, CoD, Fifa, GTA.

https://www.kotaku.com.au/2024/05/sony-announces-smaller-playstation-showcase-featuring-14-games/

Going off this it looks like it’ll be on a smaller scale, but 14 games isn’t too bad at all.

As I said the other day I reckon Sony will save their bigger announcements for around when the PS5 Pro is revealed.

Sony, at least publicly, reiterating their stance that live services will come to PC day 1 but single player will be delayed, to entice players to play the sequels on a PS console.

I'd love to see the numbers they have to justify this, because I genuinely don't think they exist and they just don't want to commit to day 1 PC just yet cause they're not ready from a development stand point.

I mean, this strategy can't be working very well if PS5 sales are behind their forecast lol. With their stances on PC, both Xbox (especially Xbox) but also Sony, they've massively contributed to the growth of PC in recent years. PC players will just wait, as they've proven time and time again not just with Sony exclusives but also with day 1 PC titles that don't come to Steam day 1.

I think you are right but I also think it's because of this..

I think this is a soft way to appease the more fervent PS fans, the ones that got outraged that games were going to PC.  It keeps some kind of 'timed exclusivity' and makes them feel justified for their console purchase. I think the whole 'enticing PC players to buy a console' is just a kind way to say say this. It's marketing speak to justify the policy.  It's the handholding approach doing little by little.

And yes, they've publicly said about live service games going day and date as far back as a year ago.

Oh yea that's what I was implying pretty much. Keep the PS warriors happy until they're ready to properly commit.

Cause when you look at the interim CEO's comments, look at how Sony keep moaning about inflating budgets, lack of growth, etc, the idea that they're pinning all their hopes on console sales (both hardware + game sales on console) just randomly exploding is nonsense. They also can't be naive enough to think that they're gonna get much joy from hoping PC players playing their games on PC will buy a console, when the strong point of PC today is how everything now comes to PC.

'PS Warriors' is something I'd expect to see written on Twitter. I do agree it's a daft strategy if you believe you can entice PC Players in to buying a PS console just to buy a sequel to a game, knowing full well that in a year or two that game will be available on the likes of Steam etc. Also disagree with the whole sales forecast been blown out of proportion, especially given the world we currently live in. Think it's fair to say that both Microsoft and Sony are finally feeling the effects of modern game development, both in terms of length of time and costs, hence the whole industry seems to be in a disarray at the moment. Realistically, barring the remakes and remasters, I think I've only completed one true PS5 game, with all the rest still been games I could play on the PS4. Then other 'major' AAA releases have all been somewhat 'niche' titles that only appeal to a certain gamebase.

I think both Microsoft and Sony need to adapt to the current market or continue to lose sales. Ironically, Nintendo are owed major credit here for boosting the trend, but with the rise of handheld PC's coming in at console prices, albeit slightly less powerful and buggy, PC gaming will only become more popular than it already is. They've taken away a lot of the worries that people had when not wanting to have a gaming PC, just been able to turn on and play a PC game out of the box, with little tinkering needed. They'll only continue to get more powerful and better too.

Saying that, I reckon that the PS5 Pro will sell pretty decent, since most people are relating this with GTA6.

I mean I'm explicitly referring to the people on Twitter.  The type of people who still think it's 2007 and still want there to be a platform war where the ammo is exclusives, despite the industry being in a position where exclusivity isn't an option anymore.

But yea, everytime Sony/PS talk business it's not doomsaying, they're doing fine of course, but it's not positive either. If their grand plan is really for GaaS titles to all be huge success on PC/PS and the SP titles to bring PC players to PS hardware then it's unlikely to bring the success (growth) they want. The reality is that multiple of those Sony GaaS titles will fail, no ifs or buts, that's the nature of the beast cause GaaS isn't some low risk thing like the suits have managed to convince themselves of. Single player titles are their ace up the sleeve, it's what they do extremely well, and there's a giant audience on PC who gobble those types of experiences up but they won't buy console hardware to play 1 or 2 games every year or so, they'll just wait.

It's bizarre thinking, but as I've said I doubt it's their actual thinking. They simply have to be looking at PC day 1 being their future for everything, they've made so many moves as a publisher plus studios themselves adapting to PC development that it has to be inevitable.

If the leak which says the games that will be there today are true, it will suck.

Yea it's a "State of Play", not a "Showcase", but the timing being this summer, around other publisher Showcases, is likely gonna result in a bit of a negative reception for it.

But I'll take a new MH Wilds trailer and the GoW:R PC announcement lol.

I knew you's say this lol.

But yeah, so much for a show around the time E3 happened back in the day.

I mean, GoW:R PC isn't a megaton announcement by any means, but Monster Hunter Wilds is gonna be one of the biggest games next year, so that getting a new trailer is pretty big yea lol.

But beyond that it doesn't seem like anything too major, unless Concord wows everybody which x to doubt but we'll see. I know Astrobots is highly rated mind you, but that's a bit more niche.

I certainly hope Concord brings something new to the table, but if it ends up being anything like Destiny, that might be a massive turn-off for me, I suppose we'll soon enough see.

I just expect a straight up PvP game, no extra thrills like PvE content like Destiny.

So Concord is a James Gunn GoTG meets Overwatch 5v5 multiplayer game releasing on PS5/PC, and it's not free to play.

So a premium PvP shooter from an unknown studio is going to compete with: CSGO, Valorant, Tarkov, multiple BR's, Valve's upcoming Deadlock (albeit this is probably next year) and more.

On top of that, they're committing to weekly cutscenes that advance the story of the world and characters.

I wish them the very best of luck, because they are absolutely going to need it and them some. This screams inexperienced GaaS studio thinking they can just do it and it'll be fine, when much bigger, more experienced studios have failed.

edit: oh and the cherry on top is that they've decided to also show Marvel Rivals on PS5 in the same show as Concord lmao

I might just find myself playing MH: World before Wilds comes out, cause that looked ridiculously good.

Yea Wilds looks insane. World was a bit light on monsters relative to other MH games as they had to build a lot of the tech for World, but now they've got that they've clearly went full send w/ Wilds. Rumour is it's completely open world, where as traditionally the series is hub based where you sent out into small locales. Be very curious to see how that works if it's true, and it does look like there might be some truth to it based on the trailer as it looks vast in places.

But yea, Wilds is day 1 and I have zero hesitations about it. It's gonna be one of the best games of the year, and like World, one of the greatest co-op games ever made. That team does not miss.

Also, exactly as leaked and thus expected lol. Probably another YouTube leak .

God of War PC looks like it'll be a solid port in terms of featurse and as far as I've heard Jetpack's port of the first one was solid. It is coming out in what is looking like an insanely packed last 3-4 months of the year for me, so it might have to wait a bit before I pick it up.

.Ryan.

I really like the look of Concord.

I can definitely see the Guardians Of The Galaxy vibes and it looks fun.

Surprised Silent Hill 2 remake was apart of it considering the Konami event, but I’m happy it got a release date.

Until Dawn is an instant buy for me as I love the original game and I’m SO happy the rumours of Astro Bot just being a non-VR2 game turned out to be true.

Looks like my widhlist/pre-orders will be working overtime.😉

Monster Hunter is a series I've always wanted to try, but other games keep taking priority for me.

Oh, little side note, but the complete edition of AC:Valhalla is currently 85% off, which I believe to be it's lowest ever price. Bit the bullet and bought it just now, even though the modern AC games haven't interested me as much as the older titles, but I keep meaning to get through them at some point. I have heard Valhalla can be pretty terrible, but for £18, I don't really care, especially since I had £20 on my account from the Stars program (picked up AC Mirage too, paid like £27 for both).

sh*t, it's Thursday isn't it 😂 Time to find the show on YouTube I guess...)

Not too sure I agree with that lol.

If anything it looks more like the Resident Evil remakes which isn’t a bad thing, but I don’t see how it’s similar to TLOU Part 1 or Part II at all regarding gameplay.

There are some animations which are very similar, not all of them.

Yea SH2 looks way more Resi Evil than TLOU, but even that's a bit insulting. It looks low budget and jank as f*ck.

So a game is 'sus' because it has animations that are slightly the same as another game in somewhat the same genre/type of game? OK...

Watched the trailer last night, and something just looks a little off with it all. Can't figure it out.

That SH2 remake, visually, is somewhat unimpressive. Combat also seems proper janky, like the transition from shotgun to pipe for melee, which seemed a little off.

But I guess they're not going for RE scale, and as Jason said very clearly, they're on a budget, lol.

It's one of those games where if it didn't have a famous IP attached to it no one would really bat an eye at it, it'd just be yet another horror game.
