And people were getting the panties tied up in a knot over it, thinking it's going to be the final design of the PS5

Maybe in the future we'll see console designs like this if physical media is ever still around but there's no way in hell this would be around as a final design

I did happen to maybe find another image on a gaming website possibly the same image except it appears the V part isn't blurred out with black markings and the Playstation Logo was visible, no idea why they censored the PS logo on this image through

A nice little gimmick I'd like to see is that if the console is in sleep mode / standby but downloading an update or installing a game, you should be able to use the Playstation application to see how much longer it has left to go. I doubt this could probably be configured to work on the PS4 but maybe just maybe it could work on the PS5. Only thought of this because one of my friends got a new HDD and was coming on and off constantly to see how much longer he's game had to download or whatever.

my biggest concern it the performance. 8C/16T are more then i expected, but at only 3.2 GHz its a bit upsetting. was expecting at least 4GHZ or higher for more then 60fps on higher resolutions then 1080p

Unless I'm doing something wrong, I just converted USD to my currency and it's close to $731... YIKES

Think I'll just hang onto my PS4 for a while. Eventually it'll have to drop to $500 or $400 here and then I may pick it up.

I wait about a year until purchasing a newly released console.  The price and availability put's me off.   I may extend that to two years this time round.   Xbox 360/PS4 ver 1.0 consoles have failed me after a year and a half of use.

This is interesting, the price. I think at €499, Xbox will be priced in and around the same. Last gen, Xbox One was €499 shipping with the abandoned Kinect. PS4 was €399. But, the fact that it's releasing at about 100 yoyos more this gen makes me think that they're really pushing for power. I don't think Xbox will want to be more expensive than PS. And, I think that Twitter source is good. It's been reported by few news outlets. That ballpark was predicted.

Leap from PS3 to PS4 wasn't great, same for 360 to One. This next generation will actually feel like a real leap. Also, the fact that most of us were making a console gen leap in 2005/6 from analogue TV to HDTV made the leap greater. This is why I hope to invest in a 4K TV when I get next gen.

Not sure why people are believing a rando account.

Price is gonna be a huge thing this gen for sure though, I expect they'll both be aiming for $400. Both companies are now very aware of what happens when you sniff around $500.

The issue was timing. 360/PS3 were 7-8 years old and needed to be replaced, but 4k tech wasn't viable at the time. Basically X1/PS4 were just a stepping stone to X/Pro, but even then it wasn't close for full 4k.

Now with PS5/Scarlett, it will be the full deal.

what happens around that price?

i cant remeber what price i paid for my PS3 and PS4 but if memory doesn´t fail me it was 599$ on release day (console+controller+1 game)

Every console that launches at $500+ loses the generation and in general anything around that is regarded as way too high. $400 is the sweet spot.

I don't think there were other mitigating factors though. For example, Xbox One's dreadful launch due to DRM as well as pushing the Kinect. Or PS3's slow start due to it being harder to develop for. No doubt pricing does play a part but I don't think it's make or break. Having said that, I still think it might be true that Xbox is releasing a budget console with a premium one. Part of 360's success was that you could buy it with out a HDD for much cheaper and upgrade as you went along.

That account made credible/true leaks before, so I believe. That's why big websites like TechRadar are giving it credence.

I'm thinking this price is true and I think both consoles are really going to compete for the most powerful. Sony want to keep their throne and Microsoft, with their more recent Project Scorpio, are committed to trying to dethrone them.

This next gen is actually great for consumers. I'm really looking forward to learning the specs of both machines. Slight differences in power wont mean much to most people, I think. I could be wrong though. It's going to be services.

Yea of course, but PS3's $600 pricepoint has been acknowledged by Sony them selves as a disaster and pre-E3 back in 2013 (and even before the reveals If I recall) $400 was being labelled as the sweet spot, Sony got a hugely positive reaction when they announced $400 for the PS4.

We'll see I guess, I think $500 would be too high but both Sony and MS look to be aiming for 4k/60fps so we may very well see $500.

So who's gonna buy it at launch? I feel like waiting a bit just because launch consoles are kinda bad especially when they release a slimed down version or more powerful version years later but it really depends on what games are released at launch for me. Then again I might just buy it at launch.

Not me, never purchased at launch, never will

I suspect the first retail revision versions of the PS5 will have their usual technical problems down the line (Thinking similar like YLOD or something that just makes the console fail to work anymore fully). Eventually I see these issues getting ironed out in a revised PS5 after a year or two and then I may consider getting one then which will probably be $200 less by then hopefully.

Well if the performance is what they been saying between rtx2070 and rtx2080 i dont have any reason to buy one, at least on day one, ill grab it later when the price gets reduced.

The PS4 and Xbox One didn't have any lssues at launch so I don't have a problem buying a PS5 at launch. I am slowly gettting burnt out on this gen anyway. I don't think I could wait until 2021 or later.

PS3 snuck past the 360 at the end of the generation but the Wii was just too revolutionary to catch on. Plus, there were to PS3 models, a 60GB for $600 and a 20GB model for $500

I think $500 is the sweet spot. Any less, and we might be lacking in a real upgrade

The big reason the price was so high is because they were putting a blu-ray player inside the console. The first blu ray player in 2006 was $1,000. They were losing $200+ on each console by doing that, which was roughly $3 BILLION. It worked out for them because Blu Ray became the format we use.

Xbox tried releasing a HDDVD player extension for the console but that failed. Maybe if they put it inside the console and releasing a year before PS3, HDDVD might've been the format.

I'll be a day 1 buyer and probably take a week off to get intimate with the thing.  If it's not the same magic that happened when I went from PS2 to PS3 then I'll probably stop buying consoles after this.  I'm gaming a lot less these days, but I don't think that's me.  I think the whole gaming thing is just becoming stale.  I can see myself going PC so I can at least have an available back catalogue of games.  I'm not even considering believing the rumour that this thing will be backwards compatible with all Playstations - I doubt it will be backwards with anything, otherwise say goodbye to Playstation Now.

So for those who don't buy consoles when they first come out, I'll take one for the team and let you know how it goes.  If one day down the line it does something like the YLOD (yes, I'm looking at you, heat sink), then I'll know by that point whether I want to replace it, or take it out back and shoot it.

I mean, to address the bolded, it’s been blatantly said that it’ll be backwards compatible with the PS4, with a specific example being shown with Spider-Man. That bit of it ain’t really a rumor. Real question is as you said, the rest of the Playstations (although I’d say most definitely the ps3)

Actually, yeah I'll back-peddle - I got that wrong.  Thanks for the correction.

So at least when I do get one when they're released, I'll still be able to play my PS4 games without using 2 consoles!

Which had nothing to do with PS5 lol

It was just an Award show. We probably won't see/hear anything new until Feb.

Sony confirmed that there wont be any more news this year. So we should expect announcement in Feb. at the PS meeting.

Been wondering what differences the DS5 will have from PS4's DS4. Maybe they'll just rework the touchpad?

Unless there's a game or two that pique my interest, I will only jump into next gen, PS5 for sure, when R* releases their first new game, because that's when a new gen truly starts for me.
