I think this was always Sony's plan given Ragnarok was announced during the pandemic so they would have known console sales would have been restricted. Or maybe it wasn't. Who knows? Maybe it was a late decision and that's why there's the delay. I'm curious to see if this will change the mind of those that condemned the idea of cross-gen titles. It's easy when it's the other console that does the thing you don't like. But when it happens on your preferred console, do you stay mad or embrace it? The exclusive generation titles will and are coming but we have this blended year or two. I still think games are designed for the most powerful SKU and then scaled down. I still think that GT7 and Ragnarok will will be best on PS5 and I don't think they will miss features or functions because it's being developed for PS4 too. What do you guys think? I want actual PS5 games, not buffed PS4 games. I don't think the decision to bring GOW2 to both consoles is a recent one, I think it was always supposed to be cross-gen like HFW. Unfortunate, I was hoping they could take advantage of their new hardware and push their level design to maximum levels, but this is very disappointing. They likely included its announcement during that old State of Play to "boost" the numbers of titles releasing in 2021, but clearly they knew from the beginning that targeting a 2021 release would've been impossible. Not if they want Horizon to be their biggest release this year too. Grand Turismo 7, however... that's not good news. Apparently the decision was made very recently. They likely have to cut some cool features, dumb down the physics and add extra time to develop their game. Polyphony Digital already takes AGES to release something, this makes me think we'll get GT7 in 2024 or so lel. I don't see the point in bringing up the other console. This is not a matter of console war. Consumers of both platforms are disappointed by such news. a Chuck Kojima post. I'm even more mad because now it is my preferred console that does it. And Horizon and GOW will definitely miss features that could only be possible on PS5 (unlike Ratchet and Clank). I guess even if I don't mind cross-gen for 1-2 years into the a console's life-span I can understand the frustration that some may have, especially if it was sold that the console wouldn't have cross-gen titles. Why I don't mind so much cross-gen is that I find launch titles to be very underwhelming every generation. So, while they may not be able to scale some gameplay/engine elements like Ratchet & Clank, at least graphics are scale-able. Bit dishonest of Ryan to say the generations thing, especially as it means a lot to a lot of PS5 fans and gamers in general. So we're really looking at 2022/2023 for more real next-gen titles. Well, at least on PS5 there are games like Ratchet & Clank that will utilize the system. It's a blended mix of cross-gen and next/current gen. On the plus side, these games will run and look much better on PS5. Who knows what Sony has yet to announce next. I'm sure whatever is coming after GT7 and GoW will be purely next/current gen. And, most fans can't get a PS5 anyway, so I'm a little more forgiving. Tails Prower Posted June 14, 2021 Share Posted June 14, 2021 It is difficult to put in context the feelings I have towards Sony and the decisions made recently with regard to games being available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. When State of Play happened last June 2020 and we saw the announcements of what was coming out for the PlayStation 5 console I was excited and that online presentation video sold me to buy a new console. The we had the pre-order's 'mess' and somehow despite all of that I managed to snag myself a PS5 console and all the accessories I wanted which is when I started to realise that the two titles I play on that console are just 'reskins' of PS4 games so that put a lot of disappointment in my heart. I do love the graphical improvements and load times the console brings to Cold War and Genshin Impact but I really had my hopes that GT7 and a few other titles would be just for the PS5 so we could really see what was possible with the new hardware so I do feel like all the effort I put in previously to secure a console and spending money I could have saved is a bit off, the console is certainly very good though and I am sure we will get through this 'dual sales' period but this is certainly the last new console I commit to. One is getting 'old' at 46 and I do have some wrist/arthritis's problems (parental gene's) that will probably mean I do have to stop doing games at some point but hopefully that is someway off! Just like when I first played Miles Morales. It's good though for the players who still have PS4s given the shortage of supply for the PS5, but I can totally get the ill feelings towards Sony's deceptive practices. Speaking of true PS5 games I've been playing a lot of Rift Apart and all I can say is WOW. I'm not usually blown away by graphics//detail these days, but this game is is the prefect showcase of what the PS5 is capable of. Not only that, but it's a beast of a game for the SSD. If games are like that now I can't wait 4-5 years from now when devs really unlock the PS5's potential. GOTY contender easily. We bought our daughter one at launch (I had no interest in one at the time) and she received an offer to purchase one from Sony on the 23rd. While I enjoy how GTA looks on my PC, playing it wasn't fun. Happy to be back with my friends. People shouldn't get mad or be annoyed by it in either case given cross gen games has been kinda normal every time a new gen starts. The key difference this time around has been we're in a pandemic and console architecture across the generations isn't that different.
