It´s quite sure it will be this year. So do you expect it before or after E3? Both the Xbox One and PS4 were properly revealed in 2013, the same year they were released. I wouldn't expect a full reveal for a while yet.
MostWantedMVP 9,300
I don't think E3 will be as good without PlayStation. Though I am looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077. I would expect a PS5 announcement at PSX later this year if they do one.

I hope the PS5 will have it.

On the Xbox One only 10 or so work. Out of the thousands of Disc games for the 360 only a few hundred work on the xbox one.

That's because they're continuing to make them compatible, it takes time. lol Right now, just over 25% of 360 games are compatible. 560/2104

Guest Billy Russo
I'll most likely be passing on this for a while. I think the PS4 suits me fine. I could understand upgrading from PS3 to PS4, PS3 looked trash graphically, but upgrading to a PS5 is unnecessary for me at the moment. I think the PS4 still looks great graphically, and should still last me a while.

By proper I mean disc based and not digital only. If they could do that with the ability to play PS1 - PS3 games on disc like the actual consoles (Not download) that would be a miracle. All PlayStations built into one would be a dream.

The hardware and software architecture shift from PS3 to PS4 was far more drastic than from XBox 360 to XBox One. It's still a PPC -> x64 change in both cases, but for XBox, that's about it, and a transpiler mostly takes care of it. The PS3 had a whole bunch of extra custom cores in the CPU that you can't just emulate on an x64 without major loss of performance. On top of that, the OS and various APIs have undergone major changes on PS side as well. So you're effectively stuck either running a dirty emulation of absolutely everything on PS3, which is very computationally expensive, and PS4 just can't handle it, or you need dedicated hardware to run it, which is basically what PS Now is. In contrast, 360 ran a Windows kernel with DirectX 9. XBOne runs a newer Windows kernel with support for DX11 and DX12. And DX11 has backwards compatibility with DX9 by design. So at a software level, running a 360 game on XBOne is like running a PC game made for Windows 7 and DX9 on a modern Windows 10 PC. The only barrier for XBOne to run 360 games directly is different instruction set between the CPUs, really. And that can be resolved by either recompiling the code for x64 target (preferable) or transpiling it. The later will result in performance hits and may uncover bugs that were otherwise unnoticed, which is probably why they don't make all games available for backwards compatibility. But between the two approaches, you could make overwhelming majority of 360 games playable on a XBone.

I remember I didn't get a PS4 on Launch, and that sucked honestly. Just seeing all your friends leave. Not being able to play with anyone for months until I could afford it. It'll be nice to be able to seamlessly transition between games of both generations. It's just so much better. I likely won't get a PS5 straight away.
el carlitos 2,663
It would be cool if they bring two versions. One with disc and one only digital. I just don´t use discs anymore. It got very comfortable to just choose the game without changing the disc. And this version could be a little cheaper. Edited June 7, 2019 by el carlitos

But I guess that they have chosen that design because of the better ventilation, as the noice has been claimed by many, so maybe it will go into this direction.
JayKed20 106
I'd like to have full backwards compatibility not just with discs, but also with any PS1-PS4 games you have downloaded digital on the PS3/PS4. I'd also like to see some way of them doing PSP/PS Vita backwards compatibility as well, that way they have everything. Edited September 8, 2019 by JayKed20
