I'm on about a reasonably priced TV I'm in the same boat as you, however, there is no reasonably priced or low/mid-budget HDMI 2.1 TVs out there. I've researched. The advice I see around online is to wait until the prices come down. I know we want to experience 120fps gaming I've actually made peace with the fact it's way beyond my budget right now. I'll be happy to game in 4K for the first time, so I have that going for me. Jason Posted October 3, 2020 Author Share Posted October 3, 2020 If 120fps is a thing you want to try, unless you play PvP competitive games a lot (shooters for example) you're spending extra money on features that aren't going to be huge benefits to you, IMO. I expect we'll see more games offer the choice of 30/60/120 with gradually declining visuals as you go up in the frame rate, like Dirt 5 is doing, so (if this does happen and hopefully it does) the sweet spot will be 60fps still. That said, I don't know much about Hisense, they look like a decent low-med budget option but that's about it. If you want the full shebang, 4k, HDR, OLED, HDMI 2.1, and potentially 120hz, every single one of these features adds a premium to the screen, if you want all of them at a low cost you're either not going to get it or stuff like the HDR will be dog sh*t. OLED in particular is expensive, I don't think there's really any OLED options under a grand - bare in mind I think literally only LG make the panels behind them, Samsung/Phillips OLED TV's are all LG panels. If I were to recommend you anything it'd be to research the HDR quality in any TV you're looking at. From what I saw looking into it a while back there's no set standard for HDR at all and the quality varies greatly from model to model. My current HDTV is actually my bros, I'm borrowing for the moment, although I have no console either right now. I think he got it when Skyrim originally came out. So it's nearly 10 years old. For next-gen gaming, this seems pretty good for the price. I've seen it crop up on other lists as the "best budget" option. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ In the interest of keeping on topic.. good news is that PS5 is supposed to be quiet! Having a silent One S, I must say was great and I didn't notice it because it wasn't there. But when people complained about PS4, I realised I was lucky to have a silent console because I like to play at night. And although I game with headphones, it means my gf is woken up with loudness. So, I'm happy for anyone getting a PS5. This is good for quality of life. Again, this PS5 controller is a beaut. I love the LED lights on it but not sure if that would be distracting to me. If I'm playing lying down on my bed, the controller is very in view as I play. I used to put my Xbox controller under my duvet so as to cover the bright LED light on the front. My eyes and brain are sensitive to distractions. Remember I had to cover my PS2 lights because it was upright beside my TV but I found the lights distracting. But great controller. Not sure I want to be on the receiving end of someone using their built-in controller mic. I mean, it's good the option is there and they said it's a directional mic but would be an added drain on the battery and I can't see how button tapping wont be picked up. It's easy for factory fresh consoles to be silent, they should be, but the problem comes when they get left in a room for a few months and bits of dust collect inside or the thermal paste starts to wear a bit a thin. I got my PS4 in 2016 and I have to constantly keep on top of dust yet it’s as quiet as a church mouse. It’s the last of the slanted design btw before the new look. Even before I switched over to mostly digital gaming I never remember it being that loud with discs and such only when they reading then it just went back to being quiet. Looks similar to current gen and doesn't at the same time. The player models look different and more realistic. But the leap doesn't feel as big compared to the PS3/Xbox 360 to PS4 /XSX leap. I think it's the lighting more than anything, lighting and shadows are such a huge thing for realistic visuals now but the court here being so brightly lit makes it still have that video game look to me. The console is practically the size of this whole upper body. You could practically fit 2 and half of his head along the biggest side in the thumbnail. Anyway, I still actually like the look of the PS5. I know some people don't. And I do prefer the function over form of the Series X but PS5 is just pretty to look at, upright at least. The Time Ranger Posted October 8, 2020 Share Posted October 8, 2020 Yeah looks wise I like both, PS5 looks stylish and sleek, with those curves, and the overall whiteness is a welcome break from the default black PS2+3+4, it catches the eye and looks futuristic, like a toaster from the future, but in a good way. Saying that though I actually prefer how the Series X looks, it's big, solid and imposing, like a monolith, I like the minimalist design, and it just looks like a solid powerful piece of kit, same with the og xbox, a big hunk of tech, and if looks good. The "wings" or whatever they are look like dust catchers as well, it just looks like a sh*tty cable box or something. I'm hoping they some sort of slim version before I eventually pick one up. I personally think the Series S is the best looking of the lot, but that's partly due to it's compact form which is obviously possible due to the reduced power. At the end of day as long as it performs then I really couldn’t care less what it looks like, but seeing that it’ll always be in eye shot of me most of the time it’s comforting it’ll be pleasing on the eye. The wild curves look awesome. I’m getting the one with the disc drive and even that doesn’t bother me. I’ve always liked the look of PlayStations, but the PS5 is the least conservative yet which makes it stand out. It may seem like a petty reason, but one of the reasons I don’t have much interest in the XSX on top of the lack of first party games atm is I’m really not a fan of the mini fridge/rectangular look. It’s not really ugly or anything. It’s just....dull IMO. Anyway on another note I got a bit of a scare today. I received an email regarding my preorder. It said that the remaining balance besides my deposit would be getting taking out which I thought was strange since it’s still a month before launch, but it said it was going to be a 2021 shipment. My heart sank. Turns out it was just a error in EB Games’ system and I’m still getting it on the 12th. Phew lol.
